BAD: motorcycle-superstore.com
07/30/09 12:14 PM

So I ordered some waterproof gear from motorcycle-superstore.com on a Monday, for a ride the following weekend. Two of the items said "ships in 1-2 days" so I paid extra for 2-day shipping to make sure to have the stuff in time.

They didn't ship the order out till that Friday. That day before it was shipped I asked them to downgrade my shipping to ground, since there was no longer any point for paying extra for 2-day shipping. Got an unsympathetic "too late", no offer to credit the wasted shipping upgrade cost.

Oh yeah, of course it rained on us most of the ride that weekend

[edit: moved motosport.com to it's own thread]

I won't buy from motorcycle-superstore anymore. They take forever to ship, and often get the sizes wrong. Then you have to return it, wait for a refund, and then buy a new one all over from scratch and wait all over again.

Terrible return policy, horrible order tracking, and non-responsive to questions/complaints/suggestions.

I have made at least 3 or 4 purchases from this place in the past year and all were good experiences.

^^^You know what normally happens- if a person has a bad first experience it causes a very powerful and negative impression. It would be most helpful to hear all opinions and weigh the good against the bad. Have to say though, any rep that is 10% bad is just plain bad IMO. I don't want to take the chance on winding up in the 10% club.

Thanks for your post, blue. We were hoping to get some differing opinions on some of these. Sometimes, one can have a bad experience with a perfectly good company. I hope more folks will chime in on this one, as this is a very large company... -bg

That's true, and FWIW this was my third or forth order from them. The other orders were fine, never had to return anything. I gave them another chance to fix it before starting the thread and they chose not to (I filled out one of those bizrate surveys about the order, which they didn't respond to).

Anyway, the more opinions/experiences the better. I know a ton of people use superstore. Looking at bizrate many customers are happy, but there are others that had problems with slow shipping (lots of reviews, gotta go a few pages in to get an idea) http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide/cust_reviews__mid--20060.html

I've been spoiled by motosport.com, placed a ton of orders and they're always fast and helpful, even when returning or exchanging. In situations where I don't need something fast and superstore has a better price I may still consider using them, depending on how much better the price is.

All I know is I purchased a helmet, rain boots, summer gloves, and about 5 other items from motorcycle-superstore, and in every case it took 3-4 weeks minimum to deliver to me, in two cases, it took 5 weeks.

Someone above said it makes sense they don't refund until they get item back. But in the 3 cases I returned due to wrong size being shipped, once they received the item back it took them 3 weeks to refund, and I still had to go there and place a brand new order and pay again to get the right item. Which then took another month to get to me.

I guess I'm just used to companies like Amazon with world-class customer service. Dennis Kirk ships to me in 4 days flat. Muzzy ships all the way from the west coast (I'm east...) in 5-7 days.

If they do good for you, buy from them. I just don't like how they do business.

I've never had a problem. Mostly tires and few other things. Usually 3 days from order placed until delivery. But,I've never had to return anything either. I'd freak if it took even over a week and a half.

I waited nearly 2 MONTHS for Sidi boots for my wife that were IN STOCK on the web page when I bought the boots and a set of gauntlet gloves for her. I was patient and waited because they were the new boots at the time and no other place had them IN STOCK at that price.

I get the box the boots were perfect and fit my wife just right but they had cheap ass finger less gloves in the packaging for the gauntlet gloves. How can someone package a box and not VERIFY what is going in the box?? I called and got them to send me a return label through email. The dang return label never would print after three attempts at new labels. I finally gave up with trying to return the stupid gloves.

I will never buy from them again. What a waste of time and MONEY!!!

i personally havent had any problems with superstore sometimes shipping is a lil slow. if im in a hurry for something a good tip is to have several vendors on ur list and order from one closest to you cause if you live on the east coast dont order from vendor on the west coast if your in a hurry. personally the quickest shipper ive found is bikebandit.com and they have good customer service

took me three and a half weeks to get my tires from bikebandit, and I also ordered a manta xl tank bag from them, and after 20 days on order they canceled my tank bag order and didn't tell me. I called motosport and they had me my tank bag in 5 days!

Scott:

Point taken.

Every supplier will have a slip-up once in a while. We're just kinda looking for trends here. I'd prefer to order from suppliers with the best (on average) performance and customer service, so we're trying to find out who they are through a consensus of our members. -bg

My 2 cents , I have had nothing but great service. bought some tires and some dress up stuff. always the best prices around. But first impressions make all the difference, if you had a bad run in thenits never gonna be good enough.

They took an extra day sending my wife's birthday present. I told them about it. They refunded the extra $ for 2nd day service. It did get here in time because I didn't wait till the last minute to order. But I returned it anyway because another coat I ordered elsewhere was nicer. Their system allows you to check something out without spending money to do so because of the return policy. They even give you a prepaid UPS shipping label for the return. And you can't beat the return policy...No restocking fee!! Most businesses now charge 15% - 20%. They even list "didn't arrive in time" as a ligitimate reason for return.
Remember 2 day service means they will ship it within 2 days of picking it off the shelf, not that you'll reveive it in 2 days from your order.

Yeah, just to clarify my experience: I know it was supposed to ship within 2 days, but they took 5 days before shipping, and did not refund me the extra $ for 2nd day service when I asked. Probably depends on the customer service person you talk to.

I wrote them an e-mail and I signed it Sharkey, a valued customer. Must have struck a chord.

I've had nothing but positive experience from them and the best deals on riding gear and tires. Just paid $248, free shipping, no sales tax for Mich 2CT's 120/70-17 and 190/55-17. I make sure that I order stuff that's not time sensitive, otherwise I go to local Cyclegear dealer in Daytona Beach.

Sorry to hear about those who have had a bad experience. We have 7 bikes and three riders in our family. We buy 90% of our gear and accessories from Motorcycle-superstore, NEVER a problem.
