14R GARAGE STAND
03/23/15 12:46 PM

Anyone used one of these stands? 14R STAND Looks really convenient for maintenance and moving the bike round the garage. Load capacity of 300kg should be more than enough for the 14 with a good safety margin. Any thoughts please?

Found a video here....STAND DEMO

It looks interesting, I have never seen one before. I can't tell from the picture where (how) the lift points are, that would be my only question.

I was just reading up on the US version last night and I'm seriously considering it.

FYI the lift raises from the holes in the frame. The adapter is sold separately on the US version

There seems to be a few versions of this type of stand available. After a bit more searching just found this one which is made just 30 miles up the road from me:

1JAC STAND

1JAC DEMO

Max SWL is 400kg but I don't think it folds up when not in use. It's also heavier than the Comstand version.

I've got one made by Bursig (the originators of this type of stand)- it works great, and it's easy to use by yourself. A sleeve is inserted into one of the engine mounting bolt spaces, and a pin from the stand fits in and lifts the bike.

I have it set to lift both tires a couple inches off the ground- the bias can be set so it lifts one or the other, or it can be lifted a bit higher:

THAT'S totally cool Gobrian.Right now,I just received my front chock stand.Totally supports the bike in an upright position.Got so I could work on my H2 using the rear stand(single sided swingarm).Unfortunately, had I seen this product,I'd have gone with this for sure.Have a Hiendl as well...looks like this^ stand would cover any lifting needs.Cool it allows moving the bike around...that's VERY good.

I would totally buy one, but a stretched bike will not lift. Way cool!

I hhave the ABBA Super Bike Stand, with Front Lift Arm. I have a video review, there's plenty out there. For about $350, it's a complete solution for lifting both front and rear tires pretty darn easy and safely.

All those stands are sweet. Keep in mind storage is an issue wih any stand that's welded together and that sort of thing. That's one thing I really liked about the stand I chose, when I'm not using it (98% of the time during riding season) it can be stored on my pegboard system.

The ABBA also has a roller option, but it's pretty expensive they ask about $200 or so for it. But it allows you to move the bike. AFAIK it cannot be used in conjunction with the frnt lift arm though. So it's not as function as the few stands being mentioned here that remain assembled.

At any rate, Don't bother with those old hoop things unless yo have to. Pitbulls are nice, but if you get one of these, or an ABBA, or a Heindel, they're so much safer and easier to use overall. None are completely idiot proof though, of course. ABBA makes a competing product, you should check it out, call the Skylift. For about $900, it's a bad mofo. I think it does a few things these stands do not (I think).

I also have the Abba stand (and their old albums lol). It's great and very easy to use. Bike is solid when on it.

It does take help to get the front end up? But one can easy get it on the rear lift. Heavy duty quality product.

Most of these stands seem to locate on the frame in the same way. Does the bike actually lock onto the stand? I'm just wondering how stable it will be when removing wheels or washing it etc. It looks as though it just slides onto the pegs on the adaptor plate and how easily could it slide off them?

Just some pix for ya..

I had to mount a nut like that:

In case of not using, I cover it with that:

It's quite stable, believe me. I just got the problem, that I don't have a real flat ground at my house.

I left the bike a few days outside on the stand while new tyres came on the wheels, nothing ever moved.

Damn! I really like this...wish it would mount to the right hand side of the bike because of my air shifter mounts on the left and would balance a stretched bike...I can see something like this being super handy at the dragstrip otherwise...

Looking at the assembly instructions I'm sure it will work left to right side. The adaptor plate is just a flat steel plate so just assemble it the other way round. Only issue could be how far in the mounting sleeve would fit on the RHS. Can't see lifting a stretched bike being a problem. Most of the weight is forward of the lifting point on a standard bike so moving the rear wheel further back should make it balance easier. The angle of lift is adjustable anyway. Strange how non of the pics show a bike lifted from the RHS though. I guess an Email to the manufacturer will clear that up. Think I'm going to order one.

So, after much internet searching, reading reviews, watching videos etc I finally hit the wallet and went with the ABBA Sky Lift. Great piece of kit and makes a breeze of just about any maintenance job you could think of.

Peg I was going to buy one of those but in the back of my mind always hated the idea of standing bike up with one hand. Moving stand under with the other, then reaching to tighten. Figured guys would be dumping the bike away from there standing position. video skips over this first connection to the bike very quickly. What's your real world opinion ?
Any pictures ?

Up to now I've been using separate stands like most people I guess. I'd always lift the bike off the side stand, hold upright with one hand on the passenger grab rail and hook the rear stand under the bobbins with the other hand and lift the bike.
Must admit, hooking the bike up to the Sky Lift was one reservation I had but I needn't have 'cos it's no big deal. My drill is:

1. Raise the stand to the correct height and position the stand next to the bike leaving enough room to kick away the side stand.
2. Lift the bike off the side stand and holding upright with my left hand on the left bar, kick away the side stand and pull the stand in until it locates fully in the LHS of the swing arm mount. I let the bike lean very slightly against the stand and then lock the stand wheels. This holds the bike upright.
3. Move round the other side, locate RHS of the stand in the swing arm mount making sure the LHS is still fully located, then lock the LHS mount and you're good to go.

This may sound a bit of a faff but really it isn't. OK, it's not quite as quick to mount as a rear stand under the swing arm bobbins but the advantages of the Sky Lift are obvious and well worth the extra minute or so it takes to get set up.

As I said above I'm well used to holding the bike upright with one hand, the only difference for me with the Sky Lift is I'm doing it from the front not the back. I guess a lot will depend on how confident you are handling your bike this way. One of the main reasons I bought it was I wanted to get away from working on the bike on my hands and ageing knees! Doing things sat on a stool with the bike at chest level is so much easier. I guess you could do this with a ride on type bike lift but you still need extra stands to lift the wheels, plus the Sky Lift makes moving the 14 round the garage dead easy. Certainly not one of the cheapest stands on the market but the quality is excellent and I'd recommend it to anyone. JMO

I think I like my deck lift better but there is nothing wrong with that one.
