Sprocket hub removal?
02/18/14 8:25 PM

I have a quick stupid question. I sold some rims recently and the dude just asked me if it was supposed to be hard to remove the sprocket hub. I don't have a good answer for the dude cause I've never had a reason to pull the the hub off so I have no idea how tight it is in there. Can anybody help with an answer?

Is this what you mean?

Hold 41073 on the ground with your knees.
Pull 42033 straight up in a crisscross pulling position. Install sprocket to make it easier to yank on out of there.

You mean the coupling? mine came off by accident. I was lowering the wheel down onto a tire changer holding it by the sprocket and the coupling pulled out under the weight of the wheel. I have held the wheel in this fashion a few times before while placing it down into the trunk of my car and it did not come off. Maybe it took a while for the coupling to loosen up. Obviously this is not a safe way to hold the rim but it does pull right out without needing to remove any fasteners after taking the wheel off the bike.

Sounds good thanks guys. I kept the sprocket so he has nothing to pry on the assembly with and I think that's half his problem.

that seems like that would do it. I bet if he puts a new sprocket on there and wiggles it a little while pulling as Hub described above, it will come right out.

A little resistance if the cush is in good shape, no resistance, replace the cush.

^^you mean that metal short beveled piece between the coupling cover and the wheel bearing...I think the Book calls it the coupling collar.

I have a How To coming on that but first I need to get my tire replacement How To done.
