Power pigtail, OEM ... does the ZX have one?
09/15/14 6:19 PM

Does the ZX-14R have an extra power cord / pigtail hangin' out somewhere?

Looking to run power up to the front to power a GPS ... and looking for a good power source.

I could go direct off the battery, of course, but I'd rather it was switched.

Thanks!

Nope. Buy yourself a relay switch and wire straight to the battery.

My 2013 Non-ABS came with an SAE power plug hanging down just inside the right lower fairing next to the engine. I re-routed it up by the triples and plug my electronics into it. Works great, but is hard wired and doesn't shut off with the bike.

Sweet TB! ... Any idea what Kawi intended it for?

I'm gonna search my '13 non-ABS and hope I find one, too.

I can live with it being un-switched, just would prefer switched.

Thanks!

I'd imagine it was for a battery tender, honestly. They make all manner of outlets that adapt to that style if plug, though. Peruse Twisted Throttle for ideas.

There was no extra pigtail on my 2014. A GPS requires very little power, I tapped into the running lights in the front fairing - close proximity, switched power source, powerful enough to drive the GPS with zero problems.

I installed a powerlet directly to the battery for my battery tender and electric liner.

No pigtail on my 2012 either, I added one.

Trailboss, maybe the dealer put one on when they prepped it. Would make sense, given how hard it is getting to the battery.

That makes sense. Certainly makes them easier to keep fresh on the showroom floor.

My 2013 ABS did as well. However, it's because the dealer installed it. They do that on every bike they sell here. It's for a battery tender.

Go to radio shack and buy a block to plug your accessories into and you only have to run one wire from the battery and you can plug in all the stuff you want after that.

Full Muzzy, flies out,K&N, black wind screen, pc3, pm wheels, blue led gauges and lights, scorpip alarm, roaring toyz kickstand and lowering links, tinted turn sigs.

I can't believe a Dealer would take an extra 10 seconds to help a guy out like that.
When I bought my ZZR1200, Homeboy couldn't figure out how the well-nuts worked with the wind screen. So he just put screws in empty holes. Needless to say, they fell out the first mile I put on the bike.
I like my Salesman at my local dealer, but have no use for their shop.

I made my own similar to what bobby is talking about. All parts from radio shack. Switched power for a gps and a power outlet.
