Full system HELP
08/21/14 9:56 PM

Please help with the brain damage in deciding on the different makes of full systems for my 2013 ZX-14. Comparos seem to all show about the same HP gains or one manufacturer claims slighter more than the competition. I like the Akra single muffler and the brocks but they're so damn expensive. Is there really a difference between those high end systems vs...say a Two bros or Yoshi?

Thanks for the help.

If you don't have to have the Titanium system, a Brocks stainless ah2 isn't so expensive (~1100). It makes about the same power as the pricier CT systems, just heavier. The other brands aren't much cheaper, are they? 900+?

And I'd be willing to bet that since Brock redesigned the header for the 2012+ bikes it makes a bit more than most systems designed around the gen 1 bike. Also, I doubt its a coincidence that the some of the fastest times have been posted using his stuff.

This isn't to say that there aren't other systems that are good. Yoshi, Muzzy, etc are all probably capable of 195+ rwhp with the supporting mods, tune, flash, etc.

as for the two bros, I was going to consider their slips; but haven't heard of anyone using their full system for our bikes.

Brock has an idea and farms out his design to a pipe manu. The pipe manu calls the ball on his price, Brock takes his cut or he is now, Broke, 'Stupid Closed shop real Fast.'

Akra is an import? There is your currency exchange?

Buying a pipe goes something like this:

Man, I want all the HP they/rags claim, here it is in my hand; price is no object going after HP.

Man, I am about to wonder if I need all that pipe or heck yeah, they are all putting out the same so wallet? You and I need to talk about sitting in the cheap seats.

Man, I sure asshit like that one pipe and I want what I want, you only live once or twice, I better think twice about shitting or get off the pot.

I agree. You just go with what you see people using for race purposes if you want the best performance enhancement. If it's going to bother you later on, you have to weigh that in to the decision. To me, it would be worth it to spend 50% more and know I have the best thing available. Unless it is impractical for street use (like it wears out too fast or it's unhealthy for the engine) I always lean toward the mods that the majority use for race purposes. Brocks or Akra is the way to go for exhaust. Seems like Brocks is very popular for the Gen2.

When it comes to peak power all the big names put out numbers so close that it doesn't really matter. Brock, Muzzy, and Akra are the most popular for big power. Yosh and Two Bros are both very excellent systems. Unless you're out there doing some serious racing, just buy the system you like the most. You can't go wrong with any of those 5 names I listed.

True to above statements. Depending on your budget and what you want to spend.

Just depends on what kind of riding your gonna do. Ifyour just gona be cursing the interstate sport turing, no other performance mode then a good set of slipons are all your really gonna need. Adds a little bit of midrange power, drops some weight of the bike. Your good to go. Pick the one you like the looks and sound of. Some of the 4-2-1 full systems can be loud and annoying on long freeway rides.

Your that street track race guy that needs to loose some weight and need a lil more ground clearance, gonna get the ecu flashed, maybe a pv5 for ultimae tuning, some suspension set up. Then a full 4-2-1 system is probably the way to go. Loud pipes don't annoy you.

if your that drag race guy that needs the ultimate setup. Ecu flasshed , pc5 custom tune, 4-2-1 lightest system with best power you can find for your specific setup. Most used and bang for the buck seems to be brocks alien head2, muzzy m10, and acro full system., or muzzy or brocks side winder.

I'd buy what ever one nasty has on his bike. I rode with him a bit at our group ride and I was pretty jealous of both sound and looks. It's a brocks but I don't know the specifics. Pm him if your interested, I'm sure he'll give you the info.

No, not usually. I enjoy the feel of the modde 14. I mentioned elsewhere that the less modded busa feel a little week compared to the 14. I don't know which one would win or lose but the 14 sure feels like it would get the better of it. From a rollon to 170, I am sure it would.

(BTW, I don't use the BMC continually...no noticeable dif over stock)

I agree with Nasty but have to ask, what are you after? Are you looking for more peak power and weight loss or just better looks and sound? If you just want better looks and sound then go with a good set of slip-ons. The cat converters are in the mufflers so when you take them off you are left with a straight pipe. One of the better headers will make more HP but not a huge amount, Big K did make a good header and slip-ons work almost as well for a LOT less money. Again, what are you after for the final result? Save a few bucks and buy some other goodies for your bike.

Yeah, the guy who sold it to me was a tuner and even he said very little dif, might not even show up in the dyno tune. +1 or +2 peak hp at best. No change in the sound of the bike ...a bit lighter weight than stock LOL (but I think PiperCross would be even lighter--all foam).

HP mods are cost effective at $100/hp so a race filter is right in the target zone but just a small improvement. Not really worth the anxiety of riding through a dusty construction zone or farm road IMHO. The BMC race is a couple layers of mesh like what you have in you screen door. It's zigzagged like an accordian. Has special oil applied. IDK how much small stuff gets through it. Never heard anyone complain that they suffered engine damage from use but BMC does say "for closed course use ONLY." It's fun though. More a novelty to me.

There are lots of independent lab tests which all show the same thing, oiled gauze filters allow more particles of small grit to pass thru to your engine. At the most you might gain, as Rook stated, 1-2 PEAK HP and the difference in weight is negligable, eating a candy bar before you ride would probably cause more weight difference. IF you are racing and need peak hp then by all means use them, I have many times.

I do that continually but it has nothing to do with my stock headers and everything to do with nimrods camped out in the hammer lane.
