but when I ride the bike, I'd like to slip something over the live wires (like maybe a black piece of rubber or plastic that fits firmly over the wires. I dont want to use wire nuts or anything like that. Any suggestion? \

Charger Suggestion #1
Get a Shorai batttery and Shoaria tender. It has a multi-pin connector that plugs into a port in the battery. I just twisty tie a small sheet of plastic bag over the loose end so no dirt can accumulate. Roll it up and tuck it under the battery cover when not in use. Or let it hag out of the bottom of the battery cover. There is a gap on the Gen1.

Charger Suggestion #2
The Gen1 has several holes for water drainage in the LH side of the floor of the battery box. I put a grommet (think it was 1/2"--just buy an assortment box at the auto supply) in one of these holes to run power from the battery to my aftermarket gauges. Although the metal is thicker than intended for a standard grommet, it will stay secure once you get it in. I pushed one grommet all the way through and it never fell out until I removed the sprocket cover last winter. LOL that was two years later! Now I got another 1/2" grommet! SO, you could run the +/- wires through one of these holes with a grommet in it and the wires hang with bullet connectors down behind the throttle bodies. Or run one wire through each hole if you want. The holes are plenty big though. There is also an extra grommet hole in the LH side of the battery box but of the Gen1 but that is under the foreman grill.

Charger Suggestion #3
Shrink tube the bare ends of the wire. Make sure they are long enough to pull out far enough from the fairing so that you don't fry your paint when you shrink.

Charger Suggestion #4
RTV silicone. Clear will be easy to pull off when you need to. Black will not.

Electrical tape with a small zip tie to secure it.

Solder in your own plug.

It will be hanging off the side of the fairing though. Most battery tenders come with this kind of plug.

Don't epoxy any kind of a port to the inside of the fairing. That would be a nice neat way to rig up a couple female bullet connectors but I can guaranty you epoxy won't hold long on fairings. Maybe a plastic welder.

Charger Suggestion #8
Female bullet connectors in hole in fairing. They will stick out about a half inch. When not in use, plug male bullet connector filled with black RTV into females. When in use, use pigtails equipped with male bullet connectors to tender. The problem now will be avoiding shoving the females through the fairing when you plug in the males. Bullet connectors should have a pretty tight fit if you use them.

wire nuts. Have plenty of extra wire to pull through as it will need to be trimmed as the strands break off from wire nutting.

if you had to load your bike on a 8' utility tailor without it running and the trailer has a wheel chock, would a cumalong be a good ides or is there a relatively cheap solution that would work better.

Sure, if you want to have to take the top fairing off to strap around the steering neck. I wouldn't pull on the forks. A boat winch will work dandy for this if you really need it. My dad did that with his cruiser on a trailer that was tilted all the way up in front. My mom just clicked the last couple notches on the winch slowly until the bed tilted back down with him and the bike on it. Then he got off and lifted the tongue onto the hitch. Crazy and it was a two person job but it worked for him. He strapped around his forks. No wheel chock, he just strapped it down on the side stand against the suspension and went to Florida. Dad's less careful than me. Good thing he never owned a sport bike I guess.

If you have a ramp/gait on that trailer, your 14 should go up without an issue as long as the ramp/gate is long enough. I can guaranty you, your Gen1 at stock wheelbase will go up and down a U-Hual motorcycle trailer ramp/gait quite easily. I used that to haul both of my bikes, one at a time of course. Both bikes cleared the top of the ramp. You do need to be holding the bike fairly vertical but if you're off a few degrees, it should still clear. Push it up until the front wheel passes the top and grab the brake to see if the lowers will clear. They will, I'm sure. Roll back down on the brake and have a second go. You do need to do a fast walk to roll the 14 up the ramp easily. (DO NOT try to ride it up, the fairings will be lower). Give it about a 40 foot walk to the ramp so you get the bike nice and straight and your momentum is up. Having helper push against the rear wheel helps a lot to roll the bike up if you slow down too much. I would tell them not to push on the plastics of the tail though. It helps to have the trailer parked on even a slight decline like a driveway that has been graded for drainage on basically flat property. You don't need to push as fast to get momentum or as hard to get up the ramp if you have a little downgrade. If you park the truck facing down an actual hill the bike should almost roll up the ramp on under its own weight. That should be safe if you have a wheel chock to secure the bike until you strap it. Be a bitch if you miss the wheel chock though!! The U-haul MC trailer has 3 D-rings on each side for strapping. A set of canyon dancers will hold the bike vertical strapped to the side board rails which are perfectly even with the height of the handlebars. No fork compression, the wheel chock will hold it centered or a couple two x fours screwed to a 4' wide sheet of plywood. I'm definitely not saying, "don't worry about a thing." DO check the straps often and I guess I would want some suspension compression to keep the straps secure unless you have some other method of holding the bike from jittering left or right. The trailer will feel small bumps at very low speed a lot more than the truck.

Another trick to loading and unloading a trailer is to park with he back against a low bank. The ramp will be basically flat then. I never needed to use that one. A shallow ditch on the side of a highway would work if you're allowed to back up to it on the other guy's property.

I thought trailering would be extremely precarious but after two trips with bikes, I see it's no biggy. Just get out and check the straps often for the first 50 miles. A Pit Bull Trailer restraint guarantees no tip over. A cheap set of Canyon dancers hooked vertically will too but do check that they stay tight. Biggest threat is running into a hole in the pavement. Just go very SLOW when you see a pronounced dip in the road while you are in town. They do exist at stoplights. If anyone honks, screw 'em. Just creep along through a dip you can actually see. The trailer will be pitching left to right.

If you're a perfectionist, here's how I trailered mine. Virtually no chance of a tip over, no compression on suspension. That platform will kill you lifting it up. A piece of skid trim under the front and back would be a lot safer and easier to move it around. This sucker is a handful and a half for just about any man. Serious foot crush threat if it would be dropped on end. Maybe I am a little like Dad...but my bikes are sae.

Here's what I did. First time trailering and I was bound and determined not to have any damage to the bikes. Worked.

Get a trickle charger pigtail, like $5.00 connect to battery and tuck away.
when not in use. jeez.

Might as well get some Bondo filler and touch up paint too while you're at it.

The original post will be back up tonight. I found the tiny rubber grommets and wire plugs I was looking for. She will be a thing of beauty plus I have figured out a simple solution to load a bike without removing the fairings with a come-along.

Thanks Hub. I really appreciate that! I also removed the + and - signs since I found my red and black low voltage caps. Maybe Dr. Piken and pass that bottle to me Grn14 will get together. They're just pissed because I have a bad ass turbo charged 14r and they can only dream of owning one.

Thanks, wardog. I don't know what's going on here. I wasn't sure if the reply was joke or what?

I thought of one more for the charger. Remove the fuel tank, run the wires through the back battery door, under the fuel tank and under the rear seat. When you want to charge, just take the seat off and hook up the clips. That's even easier than taking off the grill after you get it all done. You'd still need the little caps though.

Rook, I like the idea of the charging pigtails under the seat. Simple and secure seems like the best plan. Grn you sure have some beautiful scenery, wow I miss country like that.
