Unfortunate accident
03/08/15 8:04 PM

Great weather here are went for an awesome ride with the wife.....unfortunately we came upon an accident. CBR 600 decided to pass a car in tight sweeping left hand turn, a turn where he had no business trying to pass...gets in too hot crosses over the centerline and hits a BMW 800GT sport tourer rider head on....Killed the rider of the CBR and the rider of the BMW.

While we often rant about the people in cars not watching out for us we sometimes forget to police ourselves as well.

Hated to start my riding season with that somber reminder....

Ride safe my friends....

You're right. Plenty of riders pick the wrong places. It's so sad when people die in accidents related to their passion. Thanks for the reminder. There really is nowhere to ride all out on the street. The best moments are just that....moments. Maybe 20 seconds between hills and blind cporners. You never know what's going to be there.

Also important to note that motorcycle riders CAN kill other motorists in accident. It's not just our necks we're risking. People in cages are even at risk. Heard some stories, seen some pics.

Certainly sorry for the riders and their families as well as you and your wife for coming across the accident. I've seen things similar to this that have made me park my bike for a while.

Even though I have two of the faster bikes around here, I am known as one of the more reserved riders in the area among our riding friends.

I know all too well what can happen on a bike for any number of reasons. I have recently assisted the EMTs with loading a very mangled old high school friend in the ambulance after a drunk driver hit his spider head on.

So It helps to be reminded so we can stay alert and cautious while on the roads. Thanks for the reminder

I think some riders just get impatient, its not hard to do, even for some of us that have
been riding for many years, but the damn cages almost NEVER move over for you around here
at least, even some of the mountain roads have signs like "slower traffic, use turnout"
or something like that, but 99% of them don't do it ...

Also we can legally pass on the right of the cars, as long as we don't go over the white line,
but most cars don't know that, so if you come up behind them and try to pass on the right,
then they move to the RIGHT ! thus taking you out ...

Ah yes, "I'll teach you a lesson." I've seen that a few times. Always expect an aggressive cage under the guise of an innocent motorist who did not know you were there.

Exactly Rook, and there are ALOT of them out here ! they try and blame the bikes, and its
true, SOME guys ride like asshats, BUT most of them don't, the cars just get pissed because
we can LEGALLY split lanes etc ...

And they have this strange mentality like "your not going to get in front of me, or go faster
than me" Of course on these bikes, if its clear, and we want to, we will get in front of almost
all cars on the road, but they play games, if they are going a steady speed, and you come up on
them and try to get ahead of them EVEN in the other lane, 99% of the time they will speed up !!!

I play around with them when I am in the car, just to see if its me or them, and its them ...

Like a kid that came down here from a smaller town in another state to go to a certain college,
said, "I just came down here to go to a certain college, I hate it down here, I can't wait to
finish and go back to Washington, people are assholes down here" LOL !

It was probably a CGI hack. If I were the network admin, I would look at that first.

Sad news indeed. My deepest condolence for the family and friends of dead riders. A similar accident happened here in SF Bay area. Two riders were riding Hwy 84 and one of them tried to pass a car and crossed double yellow line. He collided a truck head on and the other guy following him also smashed into it. One guy died and the other one survived with serious injury. The accident could have avoided only if the guy was patient and waited for the area where he could see better (well, I know it is hard to find a spot like that on Hwy 84), Ride safe brothers!

It's a very sobering sight when you come across that sort of incident. Just makes you realise that in a situation like that you have absolutely no defence against a bad/drunk/crazy rider/driver coming the other way no matter how experienced a rider you are. I guess if you thought too long and hard about it you'd never even get on the bike so you've just got to ride within your limits and keep your guard up as best you can.
