Brocks Alien Head or Muzzys m14/m10 exhaust?
04/25/09 11:51 AM

I wanna get a full exhaust but i am torn between the brocks alien head or the Muzzys M14/M10 exhaust. I want LOUD exhaust without having to get a sidewinder. I am just a street rider but love the loud pipes. I have M4 slip ons right now. So please fellow 14ers help me out. Thanks in advance!

Well, the alien head is seriously loud and not street legal, and Brocks is selling a used but like-new unit right now, which came off one of their race bikes.

The M10 is, as of the last time I visited Muzzy's site about a year ago, street legal.

I would guess anything louder than stockers would be considered not street legal most places. I wouldn't worry about loudness if you haven't been stopped with your M4s. JMHO. I plan on an A-head. Lots of really LOUD Harlies around here.

Yeah, but "anything louder than stockers would be considered not street legal most places" would really depend on where you live (ie, the EU which I have read the bike was designed to meet the strick noise regulations)... the 14 stock is REALLY REALLY quiet, my 2000 ZX9 is quite a bit louder than the 14 (stock exhaust)

I saw a list of vehicle noise emissions in google for our federal transport regulator and it lists the ZX14 as 94dB many other bikes were 97dB

A lot of really loud HDs here too, and I ride with some of them on occasion and it reminds me why they have to wear earplugs and can't hear a thing you say to them at rest stops.

Cops don't often bother them, they go so slow .....

City cops tail me sometimes, though. Hoping I go too fast I guess. Soon as I get out of town its cool, though.

Like I ever go too fast......

I dont know what they consider loud in Texas. I have a friend with a sidewinder and he rides it on the street. Also a buddy with the tsukigi cannon and it is very loud also. They just dont wanna hear your loud music...lol. Plus the HD's are very loud.

I agree with you. At least around here the cops are more concerned about the HD. Plus I still have yet to hear many street bikes that are as loud as the HD bikes. Sometimes noise is a good thing, can help cars notice you.

trust me on this. get the brocks. I did and will never own another exhaust again. I have an alien head. And don't worry about the cops. I just moved away from Killeen and the cops never gave me a second look. ofcourse if you se a cop upshifting isn't a bad idea. but there is no law in Texas saying how loud your pipe can be. worst they can do is give you a disturbing the peace ticket. but you'd have you be way up on pipe for them to even try.

I caution you this pipe is seriously loud but makes great power and sounds like a million bucks. and again the Killeen cops never gave me a second look. just be careful leaving bike night at bostons. thats when they'll get you. I have a a buddy with a 07 gixxer k7 with a short meg and he left the parking lot like a mad man and they got him. I rode by normal and they never even looked at me

GET THE BROCKS. you can get it cheap right now from his clearance page and make sure they know your military. They are ausome to military people. I bought my pipe when i was in iraq and they were super cool and helpful

IMO just go with slipons, take it from me having a full exhaust is a pain in the ass trying to get it to run perfect Keep as much factory stuf on the bike as possible unless you plan on just racing the bike! then go all out or get beat. If you want loud put a couple of D&D's on that bitch.

Too late now, but i was gonna second the brock's opinion. I've got the streetmeg and love it.

By the way, the new Brocks CT-Dual full exhaust makes more HP than the A-head. Or any other Brocks exhaust system. Per the dyno charts on the Brocks website. Makes sense, a well tuned dual will perform better than a single, they just usually weigh more. The new CT-Dual you can hold in the palm of one hand, and not even strain to hold it.

The issue is that the CT costs twice as much as a used Alien Head- I bought mine used in June 08 for $750.
The CT dual is also significantly heavier than the Alien Head/ ShortMEG- it does dyno better numbers
but according to the old rule of the thumb- 7 lbs. equals 1whp, the CT-Dual holds doubtfull advantage.
BTW you can hold any of these Brock's exhausts in one hand- the ShortMEG and Alien Head are around 9 lbs.
and still the lightest brand name that makes top power.
The advantage of the new CT series is the o2 sensor bung- if you decide to go with the autotune.

honestly alien head and smeg are basically the same exhaust. just a different shape

I just checked the dyno charts and the single CT tops the Alien Head by less than 1.5 rwhp on top.
Besides being significantly more expensive, the CT is heavier and also utilizes the passenger peg
for a mounting bracket for even more weight since your best option would be an aftermarket bracket
and even more $$$... and still more weight than just removing pillion rear sets.
The single CT has better midrange than the Alien Head- I suggest the longer version Factory-Pro
velocity Stacks with the dyno proven 3-5 rwhp gains b/n 3K and 8K rpm. Again they don't make power
but simply change the powerband spread through the rpm. Obviously the combo of stacks and a single
CT will net some serious midrange. An Alien Head with the long stacks wouldn'd have a softer midrange.

So long story short- an Alien Head and a set of short stacks will best the single CT on top for
almost half the price.
If you're on a budget- that's a clear winner IMHO.
If we throw looks into the argument then the CT is far behind the SMEGS... IMHO.

If we all agree that Brock's exhausts are the top power-making brand,
then going with the absolute lightest that makes 1.5 rwhp less on top isn't that poor of a choice...
again- this is exhaust vs. exhaust with no other variables whatsoever.

The single CT is $1,800.00- I would spend that money on an Alien Head, PCV, Factory-Pro Velocity Stacks,
BMC race filter, lower gearing (oem 16T and a couple or rear sprockets) and a Speedohealer.
