2009 ZX14 Full Exhaust System AKR or Yosh
10/21/24 10:28 AM

Guys I'm going to replace my oil pan this winter and since I have to pull the exhaust system off (full Muzzy) I thought I would look to see if I could find a full titanium Akrpovic or a Yosh R77. Do you know if the later model 14R stuff will fit a 2009 to I think 2011?

I think so. The 2012 changed from 1352cc to 1441cc. So a gen1 would have a 2mm shorter height from the gen2.

I've been emailing with a guy at Yosh and he said the head pipe is the same it's the mid pipe that's different. That blows! They discontinued the 2009 to 2011 systems.

Why not a Brock's Ti CT Meg?

Why are you replacing the oil pan? I was interested in an aftermarket oil pan with more ground clearance but I'll almost bet they are a lot heavier than stock. Also, I'm not sure if they have clearance for most exhausts....pretty sure a sidewinder was the only one that fit with it...I could be wrong on that but if memory serves...

I like the Brocks Ti CT but my 14 is my long range girl and I think the Brocks would be quite a bit louder. I also like the carbon fiber cans a bit better. I wound up talking to a guy Don at Yosh and after going back and forth with a few emails. he went out of his way and talking to their parts department and they were able to find enough parts to build one more Yosh R77 set up with the CF can. I'm super excited!

Now for the answer on why I'm replacing the oil pan..... lol I just got back a month ago from a cross country ride with my buddy. we were both on 14's and did 4800 miles from Vegas to California, Oregon, Idaho, Montanan, South Dakota, Michigan, Taranto and then to Niagra falls and back to CT. It was a great ride. This past weekend was my Maintenace day for my girl and I changed the oil & filter and when I was tightening the oil drain plug I decided for the first time to torque the drain bolt. 20 lbs. is what I found on the net so I put my socket on my Snap on torque wrench and when in to torque the bolt and it just started to feel like its started to strip! Sh-t!!! So I pulled the bold out and looked at it and the bolt looks ok and the threads looked good so I put a box end wrench on it and when back in. Just as I was getting it to where I wanted it started to pull easier. So its going to strip next time I change it. I can feel it. Not to mention my OCD will never let me keep that pan on there. lol So I guess it will be my winter project. The I started to think about the exhaust system having to come off and my full Muzzy system has seen better days so why not upgrade her to some new bling at the same time. :)

I see. Well, things wear out. You have to repair them or replace them. I can see it happening, it's some kind of pot metal as they call it. The Hayabusa's oil pan has been known to crack from torquing the drain bolt. I always torqued mine quite low and it never came loose or leaked. I think it was 12-15 ft lbs on the ZX-14. I started using an aluminum drain plug too and I think that must have caused less wear on the threads. With the filter, I would draw it up until it just touched the mount and then a half turn more...about as hard as you can tighten it by hand. It never leaked and it always came off without crushing although it did require a wrench for removal.

Congrats on the exhaust, you got the last one in the world!! I'm pretty sure I got the last set of Carrozeria Tri-Rs for the ZX-14. LOL Sold after discontinued, I believe they had to make one more set to fulfill the order.

Hi Guys.
I'm a little late to this thread as you have already bought an exhaust system, However~
FYI I am running a 4 into 1 Hindle from a 2019ZX14R on my 2008 ZX14. The only change I made was a longer bracket to drop the muffler about 3/4" to clear the side case. The system was a bolt and play. The Hindle is at least 15lbs lighter than stock and is a game changer @ 5000RPM !

Thanks Rook! I'm trying to get them to install a 18mm bung for my auto tuner so I don't have to after the fact. they do install one but its 12mm and the larger one for the Power Commander is 18MM

redboot thank you for the great info that's good to know for sure!

Make sure you know where the bung should be positioned to fit both the length and the width. I had a bung welded to my Hayabusa's pipe before delivery. They put it in the same location as the narrow band factory sensor and I believe they also used a narrow band bung. The Autotune sensor is too fat to clear the bottom of the engine even if the right sized bung had been used. A narrow band sensor would fit.

I thought about relocating the Autotune sensor on my 2008 ZX-14. I wouldn't want to do that without having the pipe fitted. Remember, it has to be pointing upward at least a little bit and there's not much clearance under there. If the shop has done O2 bungs for the ZX-14 already and they know the best place to put it, that probably will work out. I'd rather see it for myself first and do a mock up positioning something the exact size as the O2 sensor. I'd bring the whole bike in to the welder so he can see how the sensor should fit too. You wouldn't need to take the headers off when it came time to weld the bung. Maybe everything else but the headers which require special gaskets and positioning could stay. ...another thing to consider is how far back will the sensor go? I'd rather have it positioned where it can sample a mixture of exhaust from all cylinders but Romans said "not too close to the muffler." He said the muffler reverberations created poor sampling to the O2 sensor. Unless you've already done the research, I wouldn't rush positioning the bung.
