OE Brake mileage?
07/31/12 5:33 PM

Just wondering at what mileage did everyone change out the OE brake pads? Front and rear. What I mean is: when did you need to change them out? I understand that the front OE's squeal under light braking (mine included) but I am starting to notice a slight squeal from the rear as well. I am at 6800 miles. Thanks for your input in advance!!

I've got 26k km on the bike and the last time I checked I had 90% left on the fronts and 80% left on the rears, these pads will probably last me the life of the bike at this rate... I do get squealing under light breaking as well, but that's due to pitting on all 3 of my rotors! (thank you crappy weather). I'd recommend sanding down your discs, cleaning the surface with break cleaner and Hub usually recommends scuffing up the pads on concrete, re-bed your pads and that might cure the squeal.

I upgraded mine at 11-12k sometime around that and they were still good. I wouldn't go by anybody mileage though: if you ride daily you're suppose to clean the pads and the calipers pistons once a month. It doesn't take long either...

@nightmare- thanks, I am going to have a closer look hopefully this weekend if my sprockets come in. I will def scuff rotors & re-bed the pads. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

@dragking - thanks for the cleaning idea, I do ride everyday so I def need to clean and probably scuff rotors & re-bed pads. The mileage question was just for ballparking since I am a newb and I have not looked really close at them yet. I am changing gearing as soon as parts come in and needed to know what to look for , brake wise, while I already have it apart.

New pads at 27,800. The OEMs still had a bit of wearbar visible. I'm easy on brakes so many might have changed sooner. Never needed to replace a rotor yet. I'm at 33K now.

I had mine changed mine at 12000 miles. needed new tires so while they had the wheels off they threw in the brakes for free. atleast the install price.
