03/04/12 6:37 PM

Hey guys 1st id like to say thank you all for this site and all the help everyone provides, today im having an issue with my bike that its never done, first mods are PCV, lowerd, sprockets , etc. i just got my bike fairing put together from a recent paint job, and rode it for about a couple hrs today, came back home and let the bike sit in my garage for about 3 hrs. then i wanted to go back out and now im having issues. the bike started just fine ran for about 5 sec then shut off & the temp cycles from hot to cold and wont start. i pulled tha batt. hoping to reset something maybe in the computer but didnt work. if any one has any info i would appriciate it on what might be causing it, how to fix it? thanks. below is a link on what its doing.

oz this may not be ur prob but worth the check cause it happened to me. Give your pcv harness a lil tug where it connects to the bike harness to make sure its connected solidly . mine was not snapped in and while riding it would slide in and out making the bike die lol drove me nuts figuring that out. just worth the 30 sec check

The holding the two buttons will not display a number UNTIL...the LCD displays an 'error'..like FI or something. The ECU doesn't know anything's wrong yet.I think Scott's onto something here?It apparently worked fine for several hours...now this.It could be a wire sitting against a hot engine part...maybe burned through?Did you check the Appendix on your manual?I noticed that red light up top there on the right.Isn't that the oil pressure lamp?It should be developing oil pressure by cranking her like that.I believe these engines have a built in 'failsafe' that will not allow the motor to start UNTIL pressure actually builds in there. That lamp should be going out after several cranks. And she should fire.Check your oil.

You know...I may very well be off base here...I think I do remember when my timing wheel was out...that red lamp did stay on while cranking her.Oil probably has nothing to do with your deal.Hub's probably right about the sensor...where ARE those sensors anyway....somewhere under that bodywork. It DID run without an issue though earlier...so....a disconnect?or burnt wire?

I have '06 ZZR 1400. I rode it in hot summer temp here in India : 40 deg C. I touched around 250 Kmph for around 5 minutes and then was cruising at 200 Kmph. I rode for around 300 Kms to a friend's place. Once I reached his place I saw the temp bars on the full side, fan was working. I switched off the bike and let it rest for a day. The next day when I switched on the ignition, the temp bars were still on the hot zone, the engine didn't fire. I tried a couple of times but nothing happened. Since my friend stays on a farm house, I had to get the bike towed back to my house in the city. Once at my house, I thoroughly inspected the bike - all the wires, fuses, sensors, every thing seemed to be okay. Now I am stuck with a bike that doesn't start, the temp scale show it as hot. I read the service manual also and nothing seems to give a proper answer. Please help, I am not able to ride for a month now.

I do believe this is a first. Heard of the 14 running up the temp in a very hot environment. Heard of overheats and boil overs on a few occasions. Never heard ofa stuck temp gauge but that is exactly what tit appears to be. I am not familiar with the exact structure of the thermometer but I believe they all work on the same principal. A piece of metal expands from the heat tand the expansion causes movement of the gauge the gauge triggers a safety shutoff switch if the gauge moves high enough. The metal piece that expands is probably wound into a coil spring to compound the effect of the heat expansion.

....so my guess is that the metal part (probably a spring) has expanded, triggered the gauge and the emergency shut off and somehow, the spring has gotten jammed in place. It cannot physically contract after cooling so the bike remains in emergency shut down. How to fix? IDK. First step, find out where and what is the engine temp sensor that would disable the bike. I bet it is in your engine coolant system.

Hub?
