bmu, So as to be objective, I left out the home brew and your list of the aftermarket sources. Let those with experience decide who is top banana, or at least took the reach around time to find out.
Who is making the latest stuff? New as in what? Lets run down a few things as far as flash vs. owned.
Q. I'm not interested or capable of buying a unit and attempting a flash, being the latest thing. What should I do?
A. Send your ECU to someone in the aftermarket or if a home grown offers up, you have a few choices.
Q. I'm interested in the latest thing and I have worked with a map, so I have a little 'bit' of experience, what is out there?
A. If you send your ECU out to the aftermarket, be charge the same price for what you can do yourself is buy a flash kit. Say you break even or so close is the cigar, then this is currently as high as you can go, it's a DIY device, you are on your own.
Q. I'm all for every gadget on my bike, what's the latest? Just pack it on, I want it all.
A. Lets start out with a stock bike and open her up. Flash alone with stock pipes is all you need is one step. If you want to tune the bike, then you'll need an AFR meter to download your results or she knocks, overheats, you are blind tuning without it other words. The next installment would be to use all that hot rod [a piggy like a pwrcomdr] to tone down the tune, along with the AFR meter is to run the 02 for best mileage: a second kind of map play.
Q. I'm going to have a toggle that switches off the 02/piggy and I am back with the flash alone? I have the flash tuned to my exhaust choice so I am good to go I turn off one map and, cough with the other I have to swallow my nuts did you say?
A. Yes, that is correct.
