ECU Flashing??????
11/16/13 5:08 PM

Ok! I am considering flashing my ecu. other then slip ons I am stock and pretty much looking to stay there. Im not all that interested in having more power. I did once read that with a flash the bike will sort of wake up a bit and even run cooler. So instead of searching all over this great 4m I would just let you guys give the pros and cons on all the available flashes out there. Give me your most honest opinions. If your not looking to piss off anyone here or put down there stuff just send me a private. thanks guys. B.T.W. mine is a 2012 14r.

No piggy backs. More precise fueling. Flash the flies open as through they were no longer there. TC still works flawless. Blah blah blah blah.... And ignition timing adjusted properly.

As far as I am concerned there are NO downsides to a flash, if you don't like simply return it to standard or do another tune!

There is flash and there is FueLash.

Flash:
Standard bla-bla are things like, setting only: the 100% flies open/N rpm limit/more top rpm limit/mph unlimited. Lets say this is the quick and dirty flash. Someone cuts and pastes, saves, burns, done deal, pay the cashier.

FueLash:

This is where the big bucks come in someone knows their shit. Auto tune/exhaust gas offset/wideband 02 enable(you find the right 'unused' pin(s)/ignition maps/fuel maps/4-sequence maps. Someone changes these numbers, they better know their processing numbers. Anything else is just guesswork, IMO.

Sheer guesswork is more like I see what is happening. To take some of the guess out of it is it takes a tuning tool like a dyno, or an AFR meter, downloading data so you can see it run with a click of a mouse. It gets more complicated you add a change in ignition maps. What about the filtering in 'auto tune?' What about the 'gas offset?' Who is going to dial in a map with those other options needing changes too? The gas is going to be offset you change the fuel out the pipe. There is your remote AFR change, let alone a drop or rise in tune one plays with the offset lets say.

I'll bet it's one reason Rossi said goodbye to his long time tuner is that he has no clue of the basics? Just mess with the X to Y numbers on a checkerboard? Why, he brought in another old fart into the pits, I'd be pulling a high school hacker out of class, slap the back of his head and say, crack DISS!

And between reading the processing book, looking at the map changes, it's beginning to tumbLeana in the tiny bean HA! Okay, somewatt

I had one of the 'original' Brock/Guhl flashes...and a PCV Brock's map.On my 2012(may she RIP).Also had his exhaust...4 into 1 CT.It was good...not as good as the new ones coming out from a couple of these members here.Brock's was at the time...kinda...buzzy.These new ones are much more refined...and stronger for sure. And NO PCV...not on mine anyway.

Both forum tuners are very excellent in their own unique ways. Impressive talent on hand. Both can fine tune to your preference in options.

bmu, So as to be objective, I left out the home brew and your list of the aftermarket sources. Let those with experience decide who is top banana, or at least took the reach around time to find out.

Who is making the latest stuff? New as in what? Lets run down a few things as far as flash vs. owned.

Q. I'm not interested or capable of buying a unit and attempting a flash, being the latest thing. What should I do?
A. Send your ECU to someone in the aftermarket or if a home grown offers up, you have a few choices.

Q. I'm interested in the latest thing and I have worked with a map, so I have a little 'bit' of experience, what is out there?
A. If you send your ECU out to the aftermarket, be charge the same price for what you can do yourself is buy a flash kit. Say you break even or so close is the cigar, then this is currently as high as you can go, it's a DIY device, you are on your own.

Q. I'm all for every gadget on my bike, what's the latest? Just pack it on, I want it all.
A. Lets start out with a stock bike and open her up. Flash alone with stock pipes is all you need is one step. If you want to tune the bike, then you'll need an AFR meter to download your results or she knocks, overheats, you are blind tuning without it other words. The next installment would be to use all that hot rod [a piggy like a pwrcomdr] to tone down the tune, along with the AFR meter is to run the 02 for best mileage: a second kind of map play.

Q. I'm going to have a toggle that switches off the 02/piggy and I am back with the flash alone? I have the flash tuned to my exhaust choice so I am good to go I turn off one map and, cough with the other I have to swallow my nuts did you say?
A. Yes, that is correct.

If I get around to a map, I'll send it off to the Wooly site, it's all yours.

LMAOF..I have not put enough miles
on my 14 to consider improving her!
I am still in awe of the power straight out
of the crate!!!!!!! That said.
I woukd re-map
my Daytona for whatever mood I was in,from low end grunt to
fuel conservation free maps were available at tuneecu.com to bad
he only does triumphs.
For My 14 I was planning on a Power Comander and a dyno session.
I would prefer to remap the 14? What cable
do I need to plug into the 14s ecu? And where
can I download/buy the maps for the 14?
