I'm sure I would have heard of that if it were possible.

There is a DIY way to disable the speed limiter which involves grinding down the corners of a nut on the front sprocket. Most just go with a Speedo Healer or other device that is capable of overriding the limiter. I doubt very many people ever use it to go over 186 mph.

You can get your kicks looking at the stock speedo. It will top out but it isn't telling you the truth.

^^^Never hit 186 on the speedo yet. I always thought the speed limiter activates at 186 genuine mph which is about 200 on the speedo. Anyone verify that?

Rookster-It will hit at an indicated 186.Which is actually, well, you know, not exactly on target.

I know I've wrapped my needle around past 190-195 quite a few times. I can't say exactly when the limiter kicks in but I know that its definately faster than an indicated 186.

I've also had my speedo past 190 (stock gearing) with no limiter kicking in. The speed sensor input does control the limiter, but from all the tests I've read the limiter will kick in close to an actual 186, even tho the speedo is way high. They like the speedometers off because it keeps our speeds down (we think we're going faster than we are, and let off sooner), which keeps more heat off the industry about "killer" high speed bikes, and lets them sell bikes and make money. Like most things it all comes down to making a buck.
I have to admit tho, I'd rather have a speed limited bike than no bike at all, and if they let them roam the land with 200+hp and no speed limiters, the governments would rule them out of existence

Yea maybe our new thugocracy would. They want to regulate us into their model of an ideal citizenry.

^^^I think the industry will always find ways to leave the door open for those who want peak performance. That's the only way they will stay in business.
