PISSED OFF, Rant
09/03/13 7:42 AM

Guys I don't often get pissed off but this past week end I was playing motorcycle and had to remove the plastics from the 14R. What I found is bugging me still. So I will Rant for a second.

History, When I picked up the bike it had a installed battery tender cable. Never gave it any thought,,,Till Now.
The dealer installed this tender and the two up basket handle, no biggy wright ? So when I got the bike home I removed handle all good, left the wire for the tender in place, figured I would remove later.

So Now I have the plastics off and see on the floor a tiny piece of plastic,,, search every where can find nothing. Give up go back to work fitting dump pipe.

Now all I'm going to do to complete the job is re install the plastics. When I pick up right side panel I feel silicone,,,,, Now blood pressure starts to rise. Yep you guessed it, the Fuckers at the dealership broke off the Tab that holds the well nut in place behind the rubber.

I bought the bike Quebec with 90km on it so I have no recourse.

A simple simple Fucking Battery Tender And They Fuck Up My Plastics. Not to mention hide the fact with a blob of silicone. PRICKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PRICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PRICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PRICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! PPPPPPPPPPRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Phew, glad that's over. What's for lunch ?

Romes THAT SUCKS!!! I know how you feel! I bought an 07 Gixxer track bike last year from a guy in another state. Said it had brand new plastic on it. Well, it DID have new plastic BUT they had cut off ALL the tabs and ZIP TIED the fucking fairing on the bike!! Yes that's right, ZIP TIED!! I was so pissed!! There were other things that came as surprises also but I won't go into all that. I know you've probably also raced in your time, that's about all I've ever done until about 2 years ago when I also started street riding. So you probably understand bad Karma with a race bike. When you have it, you just don't race it. It's just bad fucking Karma! You know what I mean? I've had it with a couple of other bikes over the years and call mental or whatever it just doesn't EVER feel...right. So, I sold the bastard before I ever even seen a track on it! Not suggesting you sell it at all but, I COMPLETELY understand what your sayin! Sheesh, what PRICKS!!

Yep you do know exactly, plus 1. Actually I'm getting mad all over again. that is one yukey story. Good to know I'm not alone.

That sucks. From what I have heard this plastics are the worst getting off. Haven't needed mine off yet and honestly I hope I don't.

You know it was not really all that bad. The only hurdle was that rubber design. I have never seen anything like that before,,, it's like a flap that needs to be pulled out and pushed back. Only takes a second but grabbing the plastic and pulling straight back will snap it off every time. Important to go slow the first time. This plastic design has all the well nuts at the very edge of the plastics,,,,, this is why guys are breaking them. Easy to see how

I can fix it properly with JB weld once I get the silicone off, grrrrr. Dat Mechanic B A Sneaky Fucker.

I'd like to get my hands on that sonofabitch. It's wierd that you didn't catch the broken tab all the other times the plastics have been off, like the pair block and the TB synch etc. that little tab is a funny angle for sure, almost have to pull forward on the bike than out, then over.
Some quebecian busted one of my bodywork tabs Romes, I would dig a nice hole for em. ;))

Ya, gave it some thought, lots of starring in dis belief, cracked a Weee pint, starred some more, after 20 minutes more, moved on. Problem is, last night couldn't sleep and it was the first thing that popped into my head and I got mad all over again. At that point Sleep became impossible. Yep, issues, but don't break my bike unless you want it to become personal.

Now reading that ZIP TIE story of sickninja's started to think I got may off Easy. His trumps mine by a long shot.

I had absolutely Zero problems removing my plastics - watch the online video from brocks about the install of their alien head 2 pipe - without that, it would have been ugly.

I'm guessing it's the piece you have to support from behind as you pull the fairing forward.
It's the tank cover and side panels

Yup...probably.I called Kawasaki about the fitment with the ABS models and that tank cover...how it didn't want to line up right there...and broke that tab when trying to install. They offered a new fairing piece...I declined. But yeah...the way he shows it in that vid...removing and holding...very good info.Installing...yes..you have to get your hand behind there to support that tab as you push the projection into that grommet...a little spit works well.I ended up buying a new side fairing...I epoxied the tab...and it would have held okay...I just didn't want a 'broken' piece of bodywork on my new bike...anal that way;)Sorry Romes they did that.

That's why I do all my removals BEFORE I take her to a shop...those guys really don't understand the quirks of this new bike.It can be easily damaged if you're not cautious.

You see how he pulled that side cover back...how it jerked outta there at the last second of pulling? That's a break waiting to happen. At the tips of that cover.I had my fairings off....so I installed two small thin washers behind that 'plate' in there that holds the side cover tips in that pocket. It allowed the tips to slide in much easier...gave em a bit more room. Then I installed a very small piece of felt stickyback on that plate where the tines go into the pocket.Pushes the tines outward without forcing anything(the two lower tines). Then, when you go to remove...you gently and EASILY slide the side cover out....much easier than 'pulling' really hard backwards. It slides right out.You hold the tip with your right hand fingers, and push with your index finger(right hand)in on that pocket edge...slide out as your doing that with the left hand.Works very well...no 'catching' as it comes out.

The ABS lines going across the tank under that cover cause it to ride a bit higher than without...so you need to be real careful when you reinstall that cover...it will NOT line up to that grommet as it is....you HAVE to line it up from the backside and make sure it's actually going into the hole. That's how I broke mine...I 'thought' it was lined up...the seams all seemed in line...but they really weren't right there. The projection was riding above the hole...pushing on it snapped it off.Maybe Kawasaki has redesigned that deal right there on the new models...IDK...I know a lot of guys have broken that tab....

Today I took most of the plastics off. I wanted to check the air filter. I'm glad I did, that fucker was full of good stuff! Hungry anyone? Anyways, I watched that same video by brock's. Made it easy to understand. I guess that tab is a common thing to break.

There is ALSO a small rectangular tab on the side cover top edge...just forward of the tab at the rear of the side cover that slides up under the Tank Cover there...where the large bolt goes in.That small tab...you need to make sure when you install or remove that side cover...that you line up that tab as you slide the rear tab under the tank cover tip. That small tab inserts into the midfairing upper edge...if it's NOT in there and you go to push the projections into the midfairing...you WILL snap that one off as well. You slide the cover into the front pockets first...then pull the rear tank cover tip out away from the body, then carefully slide the rearmost tab under that tip...and slide the cover FORWARD...lining up that small tab and inserting it into the slot above it while releasing the tank cover tip onto the rear tab.It will snap off with minimal force either pulling it straight away from the bike,or trying to push the cover inward without having it in that slot first. The main thing with that...the side cover tines need to be all the way in to the front pocket. The small tab will not line up and slip into that slot without the cover all the way forward.Kinda tricky first time around...then you see exactly what's going where...Don't pull that tank cover tip too far out either...just far enough to slide that tab(the rearmost lg bolt tab) underneath(as you pull gently down at the rear part of the side cover).Having those 'shims' under those pockets allows sliding and moving the side cover much easier.Just don't force anything.

You also need to be sure that as your attempt to slide the side cover forward...the RUBBER covers at the engine are around that tab in there. If they aren't it will NOT slide forward..you'll break something trying to push it forward against those rubber deals. The cover tabs in the center need to be slid into the grooves in the rubber piece, then it will move forward. It's VERY easy to forget that piece right there.I use a hook tool to pull it out a bit as I slide the cover into it..the tab that is.(The one the small black bolt(screw)goes into with the wellnut in there).Same when removing..you start sliding the cover back...and then you use the hook tool to pull it forward and over that tab in there...just don't tear that rubber piece...or force that tab outward OR inward.Use the hook tool to free it.Sliding the panel backwards out of the rubber piece is fairly easy...but reinstalling...you have to be careful you don't forget to do that before sliding it all the way forward into the pockets.

The dealer has been under my plastics twice. Once to install the battery tender, and once to fix an oil leak under warranty.

I haven't taken the plastics off myself yet. I'm kind of worried I'll find the same thing and they'll tell me to get lost when I call them on it.

The battery tender hookup was just something they do to all their bikes upon setup. I didn't ask for it; it was just there when I picked it up.

I'm sure the wrench taking off my plastics wasn't terribly familiar with the bike. When I picked it up after they fixed the oil leak, one of the tabs wasn't in the right place and they had to fix it.

I feel your pain Romes. I'm almost certain that my busa was tipped over before I took delivery. Probably in transit from dealer A in Minosota to Dealer B in Wisconsin. The SOBs had my bike for several days before they they had it prepped. probably waiting for parts to come in.

7 months after delivery, I find tell tale scratches on the top fairing that were plastered over with orange nail polish. Also broken inner catches and hooks. I'm sure a mirror was busted and the right side fairing as well and a muffler. In a way, I'm glad they dropped it. They deserve to lose a thousand+ dollars on the deal for being hosebag asswipe liars.

Oh well, I dropped the busa over 2x since. That's how I know the tip over symptoms. The old girl takes a beating and comes back strong as ever. Just needs a few new panels. Epoxy won't do the trick for Suzuki fairings. a million tiny hooks and catches in there.

I would epoxy it and forget about it. It's held together this long, prolly be good for the duration.
