getting clacking when i start the bike until oil pressure builds then nothing runs strong no noise then shut it off for a few and restart clacking till oil pressure builds again then no noise runs great! was told i have a blown#4 rod and or bearing but cant help but wonder about other possibilities cam tensioner? maybe? any feed back would be greatly appreciated

20.000 miles dealer said 4 rod and or bearing friend who races said cam chain or cam chain tensioner but dealer only listened to it no internal inspection ordered new motor on there suggestion ?

Mine does it too and has ever since new. I would call it more of a raspy rattle noise. I surmise that it takes a while for the engine to oil up the cam chain tensioner after all oil has run down to the crank case. If you don't leave the bike sit too long, the CCT stil has oil on it so the rattle is shorter or quieter or maybe not even there at all.

I would try full synthetic and see if that doesn't stop the noise. It worked for me but only for a couple hundred miles. Now it just rattles a few seconds - and I don't even give it a second thought. That's a Kawi.

A lot of people seem to go with the Ape cam achain tensioner because it's quiet. I wouldn't spend the money unless my OEM CCT was busted and needed to be replaced.

They all rattle on startup, longer they sit the more they rattle. Hot, no rattle it's the cam chain tensioner for sure. Faghedaboudit!

yes fellas bought new engine came today in crate one for build one for ride.took bike to performance shop instead of dealer they agree could be cam chain tensioner but loud one.already rebuilt this one twice so dealer jumped the gun. assumed i did it again 20,000 hard miles,but thank you everyone for your reply,s have a good day ride fast take chances,but be safe all
