MSD launch master help
06/01/13 12:59 AM

Good day guys!! Im a newbee, but a experanced bike rider/racer/owner, so Im excited to be apart of your group.
Looking for any ideas on what I did wrong with installing a MSD launch master 4350 onto my 2012 zx14r. Everything works fine and it 2-steps but only with the kickstand down?? I raise the stand and its stuck in 2-step mode (LED stays lit)and wont rev past set RPM? I have moved the clutch switch wires around with no improvement. I think its wired correctly because it works perfect the stand down.
Any idea's?
thanks, Jason from canada

It goes something like this;

1 = Stand down ~ All works
0 = Stand up ~ Cuts off

Repair;

1 = Stand up ~ All works
1 = Stand switch dangling as if stand is down - All work.

Do we see it is a 1 to 0 to 1 needs either a rewire or disable the stand switch to the on position. So something is reversed with the wires.

sorry Hub, trying to follow your post, and if I rewire the kickstand to "on" position the factory safety kills engine asoon as i put it in gear.
Ill tried to rewire every way I can think of...
I talked to MSD and tech guessed maybe faulty sidestand switch, on a bike with only 300miles on it??
So im not sure

Sitting in my Top Gun chair, puts my rolled up hand to cough (((BS!)))

He should have figured out by that move the switch was good

Lets try some kind of remove the switch and jam any kind of resistor in it. I have no clue watto do?
So this is my care PIT is your move I suggest you melt down your wire harness you had to have the part is that reach around and now look at how turtle said you are locked out of that computer bike go messing with it. Not my bike. We on the same page don't go blaming me?

I'm thinking out loud about this 1 and 0 or this 0n or Off situation you are in. So is off 1 and I do/don't need a signal is either or gets a signal anyway, so you go and play Tandy Candy with the resistors and all that frequency you are going to limp out anyway.

Signed,

NOLTT on the wire twang. No one is going to listen to the melted glass over wire glob you will pay for it!

Let's walk thru a failed unit. Say [for argument sake] a sensor running in analog is sending in 20 to 100ohms of range. But if say the sensor failed and went out of range @ 19ohms or 101ohms, we would call this sensor out of spec. The ECU would take action, but your bike would still run = Limp'd!

However, we are seeing we can use a resistor that is 50ohms and stick that in the wire harness side of the two prong kickstand connector. So we disconnect the kickstand connector, take our 50ohm resistor and horseshoe it [ U ] so the ECU looks like it's connected and is sending in 50ohms and that says: I am within range of my 20 ~ 100ohm range.

I now have rendered my safety switch to "LOOK The Fuck OUT!" mode I start the bike in gear on the side stand and you think just kicking it down loses the bike. Just wait!

So, I go to the triumphrat site, here's some EE that figures out how to turn the light off on the dash. He took a resistor of a certain size, it sort of matched the ohm the limp that as a matter of fact is shown in the triumph manual I believe? It turned the light off, but did not turn the limp off I told him. The EE (I don't know if he is, just knows ohms laws and can calc the resistance) is having the same blind spot like the MSD guy.

If you look in the shop manual it says, 'we are going to run in one certain ohm resistance and that means in digital; [using this one resistance]; so watt you did was put out the light fandango but are still in limp.' Why? Because if the code sets itself to a single digital number to continue to function in less than FULL power, it says we used 50ohms [for argument sake is any number is the abstract] to set the limp. But look how you used 50ohms to turn the limp light off, but we are still limp @ 50ohms anyway is how the bike coded itself: light on or not. Why? Because the limp uses 50ohms in limp mode, so you matched watt the ECU will use in a limp condition if a sensor fails.

That's sort of what the guy did was used some sort of number that matched the number in the book [when in limp] mode, was school his ass on his own abstract he wasn't seeing it. Plus, he sends someone to understand 02 [was the reason the light went on is not use closed loop to tune the bike] and he had no clue of that process was [when I] read the process of that 02 abstract and did I send in a post on that shithat was a fucked rendition of 02 was it.

This says, hey, I sort of know the basics and watt it does, but to choose what ohm package from radio shack [tandy candy] and say here is package 1 and here is package 2 and one has 20ohms and this pack has 100 ohms. I'm going to tie 2 20's to make 1 10ohm resistor. Hey, I'm going to tie 2 100ohm resistors and cause it to 50ohm out is out goes the light and out goes the kicker problem I figured out watt the ECU wants to recognize in the digital [my one ohm resistance is now a broken analog] number. And that is within or out of spec is all that testing.

As for the same theory to happen to the kicker? I don't think so. I think it is a ground run of on-off. And that is tied into the kicker switch/kill switch/gps wires that are tied together so the (((safety switch))) has a few combinations not to start: in gear or when kicker is down. Then there is the clutch lever safety switch tied into that 3 way combo off the kicker too.

So are we on the same page with sticking some sort of ohms resistor in the harness side of the kicker's connector?

I think I called the MDS and the EE out? Did their abstract to the answer compute?

He should have figured out by that move the switch was good
And I'm sure neither have mechanical or electrical hours on the job? I don't get it? Thishits ass basic ass it gets.

Lets try some kind of remove the switch and jam any kind of resistor in it. I have no clue watto do?

Didn't I start out saying that? I'd jam in anything is even a paper clip just to make it go on/off or do the old 1 or 0 in computer speak.

So this is my care PIT is your move I suggest you melt down your wire harness you had to have the part is that reach around and now look at how turtle said you are locked out of that computer bike go messing with it. Not my bike. We on the same page don't go blaming me?
The resistor acts like a fuse. The paper clip is going to smoke your fuse or it works. So I have this warning banner out that says, you reach around for your wallet to speed up the bike fandango, you are going to have a few headaches along the way and I have no clue how to resolve it? I have a few ways yes, but I am not behind your head looking down, drinking your beer, and watching your every move. I couldn't stop you from that move so the moves are on you.

I'm thinking out loud about this 1 and 0 or this 0n or Off situation you are in. So is off 1 and I do/don't need a signal is either or gets a signal anyway, so you go and play Tandy Candy with the resistors and all that frequency you are going to limp out anyway.
So if you read the deHUBBEER and it makes sense now in some way, you see that 'needs a complete circuit to communicate' with the computer? Old days were when on was the headlight and off was it dark.

Signed,

NOLTT on the wire twang. No one is going to listen to the melted glass over wire glob you will pay for it!
You'll still hack into the handcuffs like me. But that twang wire is a juddering and it has direction. You wouldn't listen then and here too I am the same messenger. All I'm posting is some sort of direction. I see you cause a direction to happen and it wants or needs another forum of connection for some direction. So there is this wire with some resistance to it. Has a drop of silicone on it and coded colored rings placed upon it. Like slay bells in the night. Ohhhhhhhh, I'm dreammmming of a white c... Were was I?

SOLVED!! It was simple (duh), wrong wire at clutch switch (its the one on the left, black with red). When I checked it before it didnt function for me with stand up or down, BUT with bike out of netural... Bingo!!!
Maybe this will help some one else.

PS, because bike is 2 stepping in netural and with clutch in, theres no way to REV up motor, You know just to hear it!!!
