fuel gauge and range indicator
05/03/21 7:07 AM

I have 79K miles on my '12 14R. I experienced a rare malfunction on my ride yesterday. The fuel gauge did not register any fuel consumption. It showed all the bars and never changed, and the range indicator did change but it was wrong, registering low. When I stopped for a break, I did NOT fill up. When I got back on the bike, the range indicator went back to registering full tank range, a little over 200 miles.

When I DID fill up, the gauge and range indicator seemed to be OK. The fuel co0nsumption readings were always fine.

Anybody have this problem? I'm thinking fuel level sending unit.

I'm thinking 80k, 9 years, Fla humidity, electrolysis, copper pins, green chemical reaction due to [magnetism = you cannot separate heat from the chemical reaction], ECU processing due to 'out of range' input to calc off of, key off says the ECU starts at 0000 with a clean slate... then I think, stuck tank float?

Because, how could the electrolysis zero out with key back on, and you think it can't be that if it goes back to reading full tank with a full tank, and upset the float assembly arm with a fill.

Then I think to pull the float assembly, can't pull the tank off and the fuel line blinks as a code to check fuel pump. So I'd have to lower the gas level so there is just enough for the pump to shut off. I have an open hole under the tank and outside I go with the test. Plug the float connector back on, then see if I can move the float up and down and read the dash and see what happens.

Thanks for the input Hub. However, my take on it is, replace the fu**ing thing (fuel gauge, as the Kawasaki diagram calls it).
