Painted stock cans

Okay so what's the deal I've seen here and there about the ends of the factory cans being painted blk or powder coated? Who and where can this be done? Is it durable? Cost?

I would just use some hightemp paint like duplicolor engine paint or better yet, VHT exhaust paint.

Those products cure very rapidly and they are real durable. No need to remove anything, Just tape off the caps and spray them. High temp prime if you want. I wouldn't even bother to sand them since you might want to remove the paint some day. Any scuffs, just shoot with a fresh shot of paint

You will prolly go with aftermarket exhaust before long. Keep the stock stuff unaltered for resale of the bike.

I used Rustolium BBQ high temp black rattle can on mine. Looks good and even matched the fame of the bike.

I used vht wrinkle paint on mine , used it on previous bikes and holds up great . It's high temp and gives a wrinkle finish which looks pretty good once dry . Very durable too.

Great info....love the quick responses. Little scared to splash some paint on her....never done it before but damn it looks so much better! And seems to be an easy DIY job.

if you do vht wrinkle paint and leave the cans on the bike, id cover everything real good cause the wrinkle paint is real sticky and overspray will manage to get everywhere, trust me! every time i use the stuff i manage to get overspray 10-15ft away from what im spraying, youll notice a few sprays in your arms starting to get a sticky feel to them even lol

Great piece of info. I need to touch up my exhaust this summer. It has a ceramic coat that is very close to the frame color. (poorly done ceramic coat I might ad. If you get a good shop to do it, it shouldn't chip off).

The Rustolium can I used had a picture of grill on it. I'll double check the actual color name/code of ya, Rook.

Sure, if you can dig it out, I'd much appreciate it.

Decided to powder coat the end caps and heat shields. Four diff blk finishes to choose from for $165.00. Thing is they won't disassemble any part of the bike and I am only to bring the four pieces to them. Question is......is removing the bolts in the end caps all that is required to take them off and also will the heat shields just bolt off without messing with fairings or tearing up any of the exhaust? In other words can I just leave the damn bike alone and remove only those four pieces with ease?

Hi - from the diagram in the link below, it looks like the end caps and heat shields can be removed easily with a few bolts. I'm considering getting back into motorcycles and prefer the looks of the 2012 mufflers, that is with the silver end caps and heat shields. Looks like you can either buy the 2012 silver parts or paint them yourself. Take care - Wolfhound

I've purchased 2 set of slip ons, one short slasher and one long can, but I keep coming back to the stock exhaust. It just fills the back end of the bike like no other exhaust system can, and plus it looks sci-fi'sh. I think I'm just going to paint mine.....and overlook the extra 20 plus pounds and stay with stock the stock cans.

Side Note: After doing multiple back and forth swaps between my aftermarket and stock vans, I definitely noticed more pep down low and smoother shifting when the stock cans are mounted versus the aftermarket slip ons.
