I don't ever 'wail' past Harley's - it is much more insulting to simply smoothly pass them in a manner that lets them no they are simply another road pylon to you.

Every time I go for a ride I want to shout about the bike also. But Harleys are so slow we're talking about more than 50 miles per hour faster in the quarter mile for our bikes. If that isn't ridiculous. Last fall I had a funny one. I rounded a corner and noticed a bike coming up so I thought I would slow in case it was a cop. Heard all this noise and finally a harley with a pax goes by really making noise going maybe 50 mph. That was absurd so I had to show them proper passing speed.

From Jarbo Gap to Pulga on Hwy 70 here in Northern California is 6.5 miles of downhill twisties. I used to beat the Harleys to the bottom with my YSR 50. Spankin em with the ZX is like bringing a tank to a knife fight..............

Had one mess with me last weekend. When he pulled up on my left at about 85 and then accelerated to about 100 but gathered speed elegantly is a better description. I stayed along side and pointed to my left foot, when he looked I upshifted 3 times. The look of awe and dejection on his face was priceless.........

Have a great weekend and ride safe.......... RON

I cried because I could not wheelie. Till I met a man with no motorcycle....

Funny you guys mention the Harleys. Last year I was just putting down street minding my own business, I had probably three cars behind me. We all came to the light and as I always do I check my mirrors and make sure the car behind me doesnt decide to run over me. Any way everyone comes to a stop and as I sit there this dude rolls up on his Harley in my lane right next to me only then he pulls in front of me into the cross walk. I guess he went by the side of the cars as they sat waiting for the light.
Any way tool boy starts reving up his bike, at this point I am more than ready to grip and rip. Light turns green and I just wedge my bike up his arse, then finally I pass him, but when I pass him I let off the throttle and give him the "wave" to catch up. I let up and just when he gets close I hammer it again, until I finally just leave him in the dust.

That was my "love" story.

Caution was not exercised much that day.

I don't hate Harleys-I had two of em.They're just,well..boring.I remember a ways back-several years ago-I had a Heritage Classic-2000 model. It was a nice ride.Had em install a carb kit.I wasn't one to baby that bike.Put an ignition module on it,with "stock looking "pipes.God they could blast at wide open throttle!!Never heard ANY Harley sound as GOOD as that one!!Really-the sound was quite unique.Long story short-I had this neighbor gal("biker chick")livin next door. So one day I ask her-"wanna take a ride?". "Okay" she says.So we get aboard, crusing along nice and 50 ish.Get on the freeway and open er up(not shockingly, just run through the gears(and it could wind out with that ignition module on there)Cruisin along about 100 or so-light traffic(we're in the Diamond lane). We stop for somethin to eat, this "badazz" biker "chick"(no offense ladies-that's what she called herself)gets off and says"You're goin too fast".My first thought was "WTF?"Got er back SAFELY....That was the LAST ride she ever got on my bike!!!Geez.Soon after that I noticed the crankcase/cylinder gasket is startin to leak(took a while). So I take it to the dealer-come to find out Harley had ALREADY had a COPPER gasket kit available for this very problem.I'm thinkin-"ya dumb F%^&$ers! What the H^%$ are you guys smokin? You KNEW it was a problem-yet you continued to produce these engines with this faulty gasket setup"Geez-talk about STUPID!!!(it only had 17,000 miles on it.Two months later,my rear turn signal's out-the flasher and all.Take it in to get it worked on-Mechanic comes back and says"Well, your wiring harness is shot(The WHOLE THING)-1000 dollars to replace.Take it in after I'd had er about 6 months.Time for a new tire!!Okay-no prob.I kept that baby FLAWLESS-I was SO PROUD of having that bike.Guy takes er in-changes the rear tire-good,okay.I'm checkin around the bike, you know, just lookin at er. WTF!!!!! Right there-on my BEAUTIFUL REAR FENDER-this HUGE gouge.I'm pissed.I go into to the service manager (and I'm not showing how REALLY PISSED I am.)Cool and calm,I pull him aside and say"I hate to tell you this,BUT...." he looks at it-yep,it's FU$#@!%^.I say "I don't want to get your guy in hot water, but he needs to WATCH what the heck he's doin.Bottom line-when "WE" mentioned it to him ,he lied, said"I didn't DO that".Must have been a Liberal!!!!They fixed it.That's one big reason I'll NEVER get another Harley.Great to ya when yer payin out GRANDS.Not to mention-(but I will)-I don't like SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys should be ashamed beatin' up on poor slow-assed Harley riders. Tch Tch.
I've had a couple of those two-wheeled mobile ditch-pumps. Never again.
As I get older, I seem to need to go faster, and faster, keeps the heart pumpin'.

Well, I just recently switched over from a cruiser to my beloved 14 (best bike I have ever twisted a throttle on im my life, by the way) Though, at least when I "cruised" I did it on a Kawasaki. Of course it confused the hell out of many an "American V-Twin only" afficianado when they couldn't quite figure out what I was riding.
"What's that?" they'd say. "A Vulcan 2000" I'd happily respond. "2000?. Like the year?" they'd question. "No, 2000 like the displacment...like 125 cubic inches......wanna race?" I figured that if I was going to swtich from the largest production V-Twin on the market, I might as well go stragiht to the top of the pecking order. And viola......i'm now riding my 14.

I can't say for sure that I'll never ride another cruiser, but it will neve replace the 14...that's for sure.
Everytime I ride this bike, I love it more.

I have NO problem with anyone that rides, but, it does seem that alot of the Harley owner are complete idiots and think just cause they are riding a HD that they are better than me. I wave at all bikes and the only ones that don't wave back are always on a HD. Not saying that they are all jerks cause some do wave back. The other night I was just putting around town minding my own business, when this asshat on a chromed out sportster comes up to me at a light and is antagonizing my to race, but, he got all pissed off when I told him he was an idiot and I wasn't going to waste my time on him.

This is exactly the thing.
Harley riders whine that they're gettin' kicked on, but who started this shit in the first place?
I remember back in the day all the shit Hog riders would gladly dish out about "Jap Scrap".
Even today there are plenty of dumbfucks on hogs who think this way.
So I'm with him in that I don't care what you ride. I have owned just over 43 bikes, of all kinds of makes and models from choppers to my big Ninja.
I will, and have talked bikes with anyone, BUT, give me that "I'm better than you because of what I own" attitude and they're gonna get owned.
My 0.42. Inflation cause of idiots in congress.

What happened to Michele Smith and her cleavage? I miss those. Now there is a Survival guy taking over? She was on there for years, I bet the cost of filling her stretch marks cost too much for the production is why the new show, huh.

On a side note, last year on my stage III ZRX I was calmly heading home down the highway when I noticed a Harley right on my ass. I went to pass a vehicle, bit of a tricky pass so it was a full on zoot in 3rd - and he stayed right with me. The next half hour entailed me passing cars with everything I could muster, and the Harley sticking to me like he was glued to my fender. I went from trying to show him da power to making sure he wasn't going to pass me, which I was barely able to do. He turned off and I wondered what the hell he was packing...

I later found out that the guy had sunk about 40k into his bike, and it was a 9 second bike that was rebuilt every couple of months. At least he learned that there are bikes out there that he can't eat for breakfast no matter how much money he has... :)

As I've mentioned from time to time, I ride with some Harley Davidsons once in a while, since my club is open to all kinds of bikes. Mostly touring and cruisers, though.

Last ride, I rode in second to last position and the tail was a custom HD with the big honking S&S monster engine, the one that puts out over 230 HP.

It doesn't handle worth a darn in twisties, but on some turns onto straight rural highways where we got stuck at a stop sign for a few cars, he hung with me pretty well until at one I decided to really let the dogs out. He has more HP than my ZX14, but he couldn't stick to me when I was really getting it.

Some of the people I ride with are on Harleys. These guys have just accepted the fact that they can not catch me, stay with me, or leave before me unless I let them. It's common sense really. Water is wet and ZX14's are scary fast. That's just the way it is.

Dont dislike Harleys, but what I've noticed is that they very rarely wave to you.I've also noticed at lot of beemer riders wont wave either.Hell I've pulled up to lights and waved to scooter riders. If I didn't have any choice I ride a bicycle with a mtr in it

I'm not against Harley's but there is a higher percentage of them that show an attitude towards other brands, especially if it's Japanese.
I can't say what they're thinking when they're around a bike like the 14 and I've had no encounters while on my 14 yet.
I have met a couple of them that don't appreciate being passed, even if it wasn't done "rudely". Each time I was on my '79 GS1000 and I believe they underestimate it. I keep it in pristine condition and I think some people may think it's a newer bike but some know it's 30 years old and I don't think they're too happy knowing they couldn't pass an "old Jap bike".
My best memory was several years ago when I was on my way home from work and a first generation V-Rod ('02?) pulled along side at a red light. I can't say I wasn't thinking race but we were only sitting there a few seconds when the light turned green. He never even looked at me. He just jumped right out and was ahead several lengths before I was into it. Looking back, it was really stupid. Moderate traffic, lots of driveways in an industrial area. But I hammered it and passed him just as I went into 4th gear. We couldn't go much further but he quickly let off and quit. I was surprised in a way. I thought the V-Rod may be quicker and would never guess I could start behind and still pass one.
But it does run well with the basic mods and can surprise some people.
Nothing worse for a Harley guy who thinks he has something fast than to be beaten by an old standard Jap bike.

My parents and their friends ride Harleys, when I first got a sport bike they would all give me a hard time and say "when you gonna get a real bike" Since then they have all test rode my bikes and all have a total new RESPECT for the sportbikes. In fact I let one of my dads friends try out my 14 this weekend and now he is wanting to sell one of his harleys and get a 14. The majority of Harley riders have never rode a sportbike so they don't know any better.
