My crashed bike parts list
08/08/09 10:59 AM

As some of you know I crashed my ZX some weeks back, finally got full list of damaged parts together. If you can sell some or know a great place to get cheap replacement, please let me know. You can post here if you'd like, but my list is on bikeland forum just to keep it all in one place. If you know my crash story already, just skip right to the second post.

Thanks everyone for any and all help, I hope to get this baby back on the road in a month or two!

What are you going to do with the gas tank? Crashing makes one a better rider. At least you're getting back on it.

WAD a mess!

you can find plastics on Ebay that are probably cheaper, i wouldnt suggest the cheap china plastic kind but they make white ready to paint fiberglass bodywork sets for like $350.

Not sure, Hub... It's pretty banged up, but I don't think it's leaking. If I can find a cheap after-market or used replacement, I'll buy it. But if replacement is expensive and my current tank is not leaking, I'll ride with damaged tank until I find something cheap or get more cash. :)

Young, thanks for advice. Cheap china plastics are actually not bad; a guy over at Bikeland bought a set and posted detailed experiences. He said a few holes didn't exactly align and such, but little work was required to make it fit and overall the quality and finish are great and one would never guess the set costs so little. I'm very much considering buying a set.

Hey, Newb? Thanks for getting back to me. The question was more impulse thinking; I'd repair it and paint it all up. At least you can keep riding it. The main parts like the levers, pegs, and steering parts, are more important than the body work.

Also remember, the resale value and how much you throw back in that bike is to ask yourself; is it worth it? I mean, the retro body at $350 as opposed to adding one more, "0" to complete the body back to stock is to ask yourself how much [MORE] you want to lay out; if the bike is worth the price of the OEM body parts to replace it with.

I could guess and say, you are looking at well over $4500.00 being; the special body panels in the upgraded seats I am looking at. We are not including the tank. For all I know, that was a conservative estimate. Hard times like this and the bike is more a, "throw away" bike. I'd hold up on the $4,500 worth of replacements. Think of that cash is let that sit toward the next ride; run naked and just replace what is needed.

For sure, you can glue the crashed parts back together, being they are on hangers and are not stress points as if to load a piece of plastic. You can bondo it. "Shaker Can" the paint back on. You are bucks ahead and with the new paint job, it is more the cash flows toward a new tank. I see this as your only big ticket item. You can walk away from the bike and still make out selling it, "AS IS."

Tanks, Alex.

Thanks, scott! I actually checked tanks out last night, but just found a good one for cheap, but it's from '06. Should fit my '08 no problem, right?

No prob. I am going to take a guess you can bolt the late f/pump to an early tank bottom. The only difference is the pump part, not the tank holes.

ALEX Tank should fit and if you take your time and wait and watch ebay you willfind everything you need and save a lot of money my bike was in bad shape when I got her needed new subframe, motormount inst cluster fullset of fairings and all the lights oilpan pipes gastank and all the elbow grease and it lookedlike hell when I got it

and with all that I only spent 2500.00 and like I've said before I got her for very little andshe only had 1200 miles so she was werth fixxin lol the chicken strips where 2" wide and the guy never took it over 6000 RPM so what I am say is it will be cheaper than you think to fix her just take your time and you'll get there and wait till the last 11 seconds of auctions and you'll win every time lol should not have posted that info now finish that thing and get back on the road...xxx's

Keep the fuel pump from the 08!

It's a common mod for the 06-07 owners.

Alright, so detach my fuel pump, use on new 06 tank, got it. Guy's selling it for $150... sounds like a great deal to me. You guys concur?

What mod do you mean, mass? 06-07 owners buy '08 pump? How come, just curious - what's better about it?

I know you've seen my bike but just as a reminder what a third oem color can do for you.
Over $700 for Honk Kong shit fairings is way too much IMHO.
