Here's the deal on gono vs. camera/camcorder.
gono = No zoom. Nothing close to the options of say a Nikon, shutter speed, lens options, etc.
Camera = Better pixels. Better photo copy. Lots you can and some you can't vs the other.
gono vs. video cam
gono = Again, no zoom capabilities, just wide/medium/narrow. This camera is more specific to what it is. A water toy.
camcord = Way better anti-vibration built-into the camcorder. Gono ain't got no!
Here's the reach around.
gono = This is more camera specific for one job, the other jobs are so-so-ok. I missed bagging a great Sony zoom camera I could have picked up the nose hairs of the floor traffic on the other side of the store. That puppy was about $700 and change. Would it do what a gono would do? No.
gono goodies = Like Caterpillar, you need an arm or a bunch of tracks off of one of these puppies, you order from no other. Same goes for the parts packages. And btw, my two centsayshitty deliberate packaging. Slow they've got you buy the balls is they are laughing all the way to the bank is do they bank when you buy.
More roll of the story is the reach around? Yes, $400 for a black. Then, you'll find out how short the hours are filming because now you'll need a piggyback battery at $40? Maybe you want a helmet cam package? Add that and an arm that moves besides forward and back like in the box (there ain't much). So you are handcuffed back to the caterpillarack buying more shit at 20 to 40 bucks a hit. We have yet to buy the micro card for 40 or 60 bucks is it? Maybe another hour with the larger card space but same micro card physical size, meaning.
So where are we up to? I lost count? Oh, how about a remote so you don't have to reach around for the button at the back or reach up or down to wherever you placed it, so yeah, we cha-ching there too. Want a touch screen? $80 buck me, I'm not done yet. Wear out is my pooreach around now? I'm way past my big bulky $ony camcorder I let get away.
Sure is a bitchen bunch of parts and pieces though. Some are fish eye shots, some are grainy video the more you mess with the pixels and speed settings. Hey, who cares. You only live once so ass eyesit here and tick away, why not plug and play I say. Just letting you know some $399 box won't get you there if anal is your last name.

I thought that too, locker. More thoughts. Let's play with cams.
1 Sony ~ They came out to compete and could be a water toy used as well? It has one mount and maybe not much more? So you'd have to reach down, change setting, maybe look at the side screen to see if the lens is planted well? Are there accessories for it? Are the camera settings vs the go equal? No, not many. Are we in the same boat with anti-shake? Well, as best as the rest maybe?
2. Contour ~ I'm trying to think if this is one setting and you are done? Looks like a mini flashlight. Has a few mounts for helmet and stationary mounts. No where near the ability of the go. If this is say 3 settings to the one pixel set, meaning if it's set at 980, 1080 or higher? Then my guess is that one setting, but wide/narrow may be added? I think this started out as an above water type camera, so this is a non-feature as in dunkable?
3. Gopro ~ Can you mount the other cams to a bike/motorcycle size handlebar tube with their mounts or accy parts like a go? No. Can you crank the camera 180/90°/upside down, toggle the mode and the go will now video right side up? No is my guess? Can you set the shutter speed to do a few camera tricks, use the video software and create a new image from it? No. Maybe some high end cameras have this feature, but not the Sony or Con. Do you have a plethora of extra ways to mount more battery time, more touch screen options, or (black comes with) a pocket remote: on/off change/mode handy-dandy thumb my screen? Maybe not? If we were going to match price for the basics, say the other two would come in at 20/30/50 bucks lower is the difference? And look what you get for the black as a stand alone?
Hard choices? Maybe for some. I found the more I play with the settings, the more I can work this camera close to a decent recording like a regular camera... sans zoom. It sure is versatile in so many ways. What I did was search utube for contour vs. gopro and then sony vs. gopro. I suggest you sit thru them to decide on your own. Sony sorta had the better picture, but you can go into the gopro's cutting room floor, you download the company software. That's the video project tool you can use for your videos. You click on the color board panel, slide your tints and see if you can match the sony color? And that was sort of the answer to that question vs the new sony comparable cam to compete with gopro's quality.
Like I said, you could do fine with what the competition brings, but at what price once you are stuck with the basic camera vs. basic camera. For that little extra cha-ching, there might be that choice for more (over priced) goodies, or look at the other cams or the have-nots [the other cams do not have] and you wish you had them down the road. So you sorta see that leap [from cheap] you take? Lots of well thought out goodies compared to limited goodies, and then at what price?
Meaning, you are now stuck with $350 cam that does one thing. The other $50 would have bought a built-in still camera, a hand remote. All you have is a video camera maybe with the Contour? Will the Sony take pics? I forget? Will you get a remote with the sony? Don't know, nor remember?
If I were to match feature for feature, extra accessories needed vs the others may not offer, the durability of it, the dependability it seems a go is always crashing and keeps on ticking, so play those against the other two... Tough call or not?

The hero 3's are a pretty trick little thing. Remote control so you not burning battery for shit.
Wi FI so you can run/see them from your smart phone.
Which is good for setting up shots or footage.
With a decent Card the battery will go flat before you loose space.
There tricky to work out but packed with features once you do.
And the mounting options available from say someone like RAM MOUNT are awesome.
