Fuzeblock installation
06/17/12 7:48 PM

I recently purchased a fuzeblock which I plan to install under the seat. Does someone have a picture showing the best place to tap the switched power into at the back of the bike?

From a loading perspective it would be best to feed the fuse block directly from the battery. You want to be careful when tapping into circuits that run through the ignition system / ignition switch as they may not be designed to handle the load you may place on them. If it is imperative that that the circuit you want to create is switched / controlled through the bike's ignition you can have the ignition circuit active the coil of a small 12VDC relay (very small current draw) and have the relay's contacts make and break your circuit.

Check your service manual in section 16 for the electrical diagrams for your bike. If you follow the wiring from the battery (and follow it onto the second page, pages are designed to match side by side) I believe you will end up at the fuse block under the seat. It would appear that the "orange" wire delivers an uninterrupted constant feed up. You can follow the diagrams along and see what is powered when the ignition switch is on. Once again you can tap off for control type purposes but any real loads should be fed from the battery and routed through a relay.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it that you wish to power?

I have seen a few bikes with them installed under the tank cover, they certainly do not leave us much room under the seat.

There is room for a fuzeblock under the right side air tunnel cover.

I had one on my ZX14, and it never got wet (I had it up towards the front as far as I could get it).

There is also room in the upper cowl, if you take it off, but then you can't get at it easily.

And of course, if you lose the tool kit, there is room there.

+1 on direct connect to battery. There is NO other way to do it.
