Pilot Power og Pilot Power 2CT
03/16/14 2:18 PM

I have been usind the Pilot Road 2 and Pilot Road 3 tyres for some years now. I am thinking to change to a bit more sporty tyre.

These are my choices:

Pilot Power 3
Pilot Power
Pilot Pover 2ct

I ride mostly on twisty roads, for instance in the french and italian alps. The tyre needs to be good on twisting roads in nice weather.

It must be decent on wet road (decent is good enoug, excellent is not needed).

And if anyonw know what kind of mileage I can expect, escellent.

I am seriously wondering to go for the Pilot Power (not the 3 or 2ct variant), since I had these earleri (but on a cbr600), and they vere excellent.

Any input?

I've tried the original Pilot Powers and the Pilot Power 3's. Both are great tires, but I believe the 3's are worth the extra money. I get about 3000 miles out of a set. No burnouts just a lot of twisty stuff. The front tire could be pushed a bit further but I just change both at the same time.

What is the problem with the PR2's & 3's ? Give me the best in the wet, I can slow down when it's dry.

In my experience the Powers square off quicker than the 2ct variant, esp on a heavier bike with torque.
You may not notice as much if most of your riding is in the curvy stuff.
I have gotten as few as 2500 miles out of a rear Power....

Stock Metzler Sporttec M 5

I think I've had the wires/Bands break or slip within the front tire given the strange lumps it has all the way around it. Just happened all the sudden too

My M5 had "cupping" or flatspotting on the front also. Mostly on the right side. Several others have had this problem as well, from what has been posted here.

Don't know for sure what caused it, but I don't think it had a shifted belt. It felt ok, and had no vibration. I took it off as soon as I noticed it. And yes, it was almost all of a sudden. I was at 5500-6000 and it was fine, hit 6800-7000 and it was cupped.

Thanks for the info. At least it's not exclusive to me.

I just now put on a new set of Pilot Powers. Feels great in the corners. Handles so much better. Very "fluid" around turns.

I don't care for the apparent limited life, but I wanted to experience some "sticky" tires to see how they feel

Go on the Michelin website and enter "ZX-14". PR4 and Pilot Power 3 are what they recommend. I have a love/hate relationship with the PR3. They were pretty good this winter on cold and wet roads but when the weather warms up, they act skirmish and get greasy. I believe they just have too many sipes. The PR4 have less and their sipes don't run all the way to the edge of the tires. I have a set of Rosso Corsa that are going on next, I can get 3500-4000 miles out of those and when warm they stick more than I need them to. If they wear out before my track day I'm slapping Q2's or Q3's on. Those are the best confidence inspiring tires in my opinion but they last only 3000 miles on average. After that I'm trying the Pilot Power 3 but from what I have seen they are more narrow than both the Rosso Corsa, 2CT and Q2/Q3. I don't know if I'm going to like that!
