I take it the valve shims are the same (9.5mm) as the earlier bikes as the OE part No's appear to be the same? They're not cheap either at over £9 each. Will se if the local dealer will do an exchange deal for a small fee, they all used to do that years ago.

9.48mm. Same for Gen 1 & 2. Not sure if 9.5s work or not. My guess is they'd probably fit. If there's any interference I don't think it would be a good thing though because the shim rotates around like the bucket does.

Valve check completed. Good thing too as all but one of the EX valves were tight and just under spec, the last one was just in. 1 of the inlets was just under and another 3 just in spec so, in all, 11 had to be re-shimed even though the bike was still running sweet. After being quoted around £10 each for OEM from a local dealer I went with some Hot Cams shims at £1.70 each for the sizes I didn't have. Now that's a fair price. The dealer was also surprised that any adjustment was needed as they'd never had to do any?? All back together (minus the bodywork) and fired up and sounds just as sweet as before.Just got to check the Throttle sync with the vacuum gauges and she's good to go. Not a 2 hour job but quite straight forward really.Just a bit more long winded than a service on my single cyl dirt bike!

Hope you have an easier time than I did. The Tbodies harness and the crankshaft sensor coupler+bracket are in the way. I removed the main wiring harness connectors on the engine below the battery box and removed the crankshaft sensor connectors to reach in there with the 90° screwdriver. Also removed the ground wires from the battery ground screw to clear the path. I used a battery strap to jump the wires to the ground screw. Good luck.
