Here are the 3 batteries I've had in my bike...

The Speedcell- 1.7 lbs.

The Odyssey PC310 which is half the size and weight of the stock battery (less than 6 lbs.)

Seriously?? THAT is the speedcell???!?!?!?!?!?!

Holy SHIT! i'd be able to fit my air bottle in the battery compartment then!

Does the bike still crank ok? I've got a touch more compression so everything is under a bit more load.. Also, any idea on longevity? How long does the bike have to run before its fully re-charged? CCA of the speedcell and stock?

Just a few q's i'd like to know.. Shoot my bike is in the 470lb range now, and i'm always looking for a little somethin extra.

It cranks up my bike just fine- gives stronger repetetive cranks than the PC310 by far.
I've had it in the bike for just a couple of months now- it only needed an initial charge and I put it on my battery tender for 10 min. and never had issues with it.

Bought mine from Dubious- he's a dealer in Canada but can ship to the US and he's a great guy for tech support regarding anything motorcycle- not just the Speedcells.

Dubious is a guy who posts a lot on bikeland zx-14 forum. He's not around here too much. I'd register on bikeland and contact "dubious" if I wanted to get a good price on one of these new fangled batteries.

Mostly track drag racers on that site so don't do any talking of street huliganism. They'll jump all over your sh!t. They are a god bunch of guys, though. I have to pop on over there and see what's going on myself.

Anything you can do to take weight off your bike will improve braking, acceleration and handling so if you have the bucks to spare, the 10 lb lighter batery is well worth the money at $3/lb. On the subject of weight loss from the machine vs rider (sprung weight), it is indistinguishable, in fact 10 lbs off your body (Ballys Membership) which has a higher center of gravity than the bike will pay additional benefits in transitions, think about that one next time your tempted to reach for a 12 pack of Bud Lite. Notice MotoGP riders are all jockeys, I think Nicky Hayden is a heavy weight at around 155-160 lbs, Pedrosa maybe 125-130 lbs. Big guys like me at 225 lbs have no real chance it's pure physics. Rotational weight off wheels, tires, brake rotors etc. (unsprung weight) is where the differences can really be felt. 10 pounds off your wheels and you'd think you were on something from another planet. It's gonna cost you though, to the tune of about $30/lb. I think weight is more important than horsepower by far, especially unsprung.

Here's the contact for Dubious:

Lyle - eldubois@telus.net

He can get you a Speedcell for less than what you will ever find on eBay.

i prob shoulda bought through him.. but i'm an impulse buyer hahaha

went on intending to buy a new PC3... Came off with a battery.

How's that work?

BTW, between the battery and another little secret i've found, i'm going to be losing 21 lbs off the bike before my next trip to the track. plus i'll have my gearing fixed. I'm thinkin 8.80s off the trailer

Biguys like me is pound for pound you are cutting yourself short, Big Guy. Takes more speed and less brake is scare yourself more than you scare them = Winner Takes Home The Grand Prize! Out riding the competition is not in the physics. Takes, out and out will power or sheer want of a means to that bitter end.

You want it bad enough, then it is yours for the taking. Fizz-Sicks is a given. The rest is in your hands. Fucking battery is not going to help, you come up against the likes of...

Hey masszx14 and slowninja how did you secure the speed cell in the battery compartment. it looks like it is alot smaller than the stock battery.

I don't think I would buy it for the weight loss alone. I'm 228 pounds so 8 pounds on m bike more or less won't make much difference. The weight loss is useful but I am more interested in never trickle charging it. My bike sits 6 months a year.

Masszx14 do you know if the life of the speed cell is any different than the stock battery? I thought I read it lasts alot longer. But I can't seem to comfirm that.

The stock battery with the plastic tray and cover it sits in and rubber strap to secure it is roughly around 12 lbs.-the speedcell is 1.7 lbs.

This is 10 lbs. of weight savings- not less.

Mine is velcroed and not going to shift.

As far as longivity- nobody knows yet since nobody has used it in a bike for more than a few months... will see I guess.

It's $250... not sure how that can be viewed as a risky investment by some.

^^^No joke, I bet you could do that.

Otherwise, get a sheet of that foam insulation and glue (with PL-200 foam adhesive) some chunks together to make a block that fits in there snug. You can shape that foam stuff very easy with coarse sand paper. Saw the block in half and dig out a compartment to fit the battery. Put battery in compartment and rubber band the two halves together.

My thought too,, even with the Odyessy, its smaller than stock,, how snugg is it going to fit in the stock battery boxxx.

Im about to say F it and just get a new stock battery... Im 280,,, I guess if I want a weight savings I will get some M4's,,,,,,plus they look nice, and you have more access to the chain/tire.
