The stock battery box and strap should be thrown away IMHO... mine was!

Im about to say F it and just get a new stock battery...

I have trusted motorcycle expert buddy - too bad he can't post as much as he used to - but he had a very simple piece of advice that always stuck with me- 'Any time you need to replace something, you might as well replace it with something that is not stock.' If you replace stock with stock, you don't get to try new stuff out.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about the battery fitting in there snug. There must be a hundred ways you could keep a speed cell secure. It's so light, you almost wouldn't have to worry about it. The only chance your taking on the speed cell is the untried track record for durability. I guess durability is how we normally define quality in a battery but for us, weight is an important factor too. It's up to you though, replacing stock with stock gaurantees predictable results and the stock battery is reliable.

massaid: You're right Hub- the battery hasn't been tested much, but time will tell.

We go to a boat show. Hook an OEM batter up to an electric motor, full throttle the tiller handle; start the stop watch; wait to see who times out first. If 10lbs. of extra lean fat meets the time it takes to wear won down, we know who won > Time will tell. Watt is was that simple?

I still dont get the $250 for a stock battery,, I have seen them around for $85.

I also looked into the odyssey, and it has the positive and negative change around from stock,, and turning it around will make for a longer cable connection.

Anyone actually have the odyssey in thoer zx-14?

I do! It doesn't crank the 14 as well as the Speedcell, not even close.

Shane on Bikeland has viseos of both Odyssey and Speedcell batteries firing up the 14 in his build thread.
