I don't really mean to be rude, but to be completely honest, I WOULD NOT recommend a turbo system to you if you know that little about them. They will require a lot more maintenance, and there is a lot more that could potentially happen to them. If you don't really understand them, then either learn, or stick with other modest power adders. That's my opinion, sorry if you don't like it........ and about the top speed..... I mean, come on...... more power=faster........... right?

So, honest question, a stock geared bike with a turbo will have a higher top speed than a stock geared bike w/o a turbo. It's obvious that the turbo bike will reach top speed sooner, but wouldn't equal redlines and gearing limit both of the bikes to the same top speed given an infinite distance to achieve said speed?

BTW, gilberjj, I admire you putting together and installing your own turbo kit. We live pretty close to each other and I hope to have a chance to check it out when it is complete.

I don't know that a stock bike could actually pull the redline stock gearing (with the speed limiter removed). But of course, if the top speed was gearing limited to 100 mph, then the stock motor could get you there quite easily, but yes, the turbo will
1. get you there faster
2. potentially higher top speed
A turboed bike could do all of 220ish, while a stock motored na bike will never be able to go that fast.

I don't know either... but now I'm curoious.

GL with the build. I've actually got a AEM TruBoost, AEM UEGO, Greddy E-manage and some other goodies sittin' here from the last turbo car (3kgt vr4/Stealth TT) I was tinkerin' on. Don't know if any of it would come in handy for your build?

Update: the kit should be done by next week (I'll make sure to snap some pictures). I ported the turbine housing to ensure that the exhaust gases will be able to bypass the turbine via the external wastegate. Also, I have ceramic coated the turbine housing black to keep heat down (plus I hate that rusty look). I purchased my fuel pump, and instead of running a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, I'm modifying the internal regulator and setting the static fuel pressure to about 60 psi. That should supply more then enough fuel for my goals (300 whp). Additionally, I've changed plans a little. I'll be pulling the head to install carpenter heavy duty valve springs and a custom thick head gasket from cometic (84mm bore, .070" thick) this will lower my compression from 12:1 to about 10.29:1. Depending on how the dyne tuning goes, this may allow me to turn the boost up to 15ish psi. This is going to be FUN!!!!!!!

Gilberjj Hi, you just answered a query of mine on the other side!!!!!
hope you dont mind but I posted that I have just to get a regulator and map. how are you modding the fuel regulator?
may do the same.......and depending on how things are I may throw the head gasket in aswell?
Grinner sorry grin14

Dogo: I was going to have buzzard (a tuner from Oregon on northwestdragbikes.com) tune my bike. Who is mike velasco? What's his contact info?

Grin14: you can only modify the regulators on 06-07 zx14s. To modify it, you crush the metal housing which encases the fuel pump where the spring sits. If you crush it all the way, I believe that will be about 72 psi of fuel pressure from what I've heard. I was going to crush the reg to about 60 psi, but I just picked up a begi rising rate fuel pressure regulator, so I won't be doing that afterall.
I've ordered a 0.070" head gasket. I think lowering the compression is paramount for making a stock motor last when boosted. I'll make sure to post up my results whether good or bad.

I spoke with mike velasco and I won't be using him to tune my bike. He said he's tuned turbo bikes in the past, but when I asked him what a/f ratio he wouldtune too, he said 13:1. If I wanted a couple melted pistons or broken rods, I would tune to that. Until then I'll shoot for 11.5:1. Thanks for the name dogo, he was a great guy but doesn't know enough about turbos.

A disturbance in the force? The guy's a tuning "legend"... guess he just don't know turbo.

Sounds like you've been makin' some good progress on your bike lately... Soon to be the fastest ninja in the NW. Looks like it's on for 2011. I may just have to come out and let you hand me my ass one weekend this summer.

Ok, updates. I've decided to take the build up a knotch. First, the fuel system. I bought a begi rising rate fuel pressure regulator. It will allow standard static fuel pressure (48 psi), and as high as I want under boost. Additionally, I bought 700cc bosch injectors from five-o Motorsports. With these big injectors, I'll be running my bike on e85. This will benefit me several ways. First and most importantly, I'll be able to run as much boost as I want. It has been proven to make more power then vp c16 at the same level of boost. Also, e85 only costs about $3.00 per gallon. Another benefit is it's cooling characteristics. The motor will run cooler, and it will almost behave as an intercooler, cooling the incoming air from the turbo far more then other fuels.
Another purchase was a lock-up clutch made by Gann. This will allowme to put all the power my bike will make to the ground, as well as tune my bike for launching hard at the strip.
Lastly, ive upgraded my turbo from a 16g to a 20g. This turbo is significantly larger, and will flow almost 100 more cfm.
Lastly, my plans for tuning the beast have changed a little. I'll be using a power commander 5, with the Wideband commander 2. This will allow the autotune function, aswell as having an onboard real time a/f gauge.

I know I have spoken elswhere on this subject but unless I can get the ecu tuning software etc then I am with you on the pcv autotune and afr real time. I think its as good as you really need.
Im going to get the same FPR as you previously spoke of ......are you using a dump valve, just thinking of protection on close throttle at high rpm and extra protection from over boost...
looking forward to seeing some pics of you installation...

Ya, at this point, I dont think I'll be using a dyno to tune my bike. If I get the pc5 with the autotune function and real time a/f ratios, I'm confident in my ability to tune the bike.
As for the rrfpr, if I were buying new, I'd get the cycle logic reg. I still don't knowwhere I'm going to mount my begi.... It's BIG....
I decided to use a blow off valve after-all. It was never in the plans, but my friend had a gen 1 Dsm bov he sold me for $10. It will work perfectly for my goals.

Here it is. I got the bigger 20g so I could put down some serious power. 300whp should be EASY considering it flows 650cfm. A small 16g flows 505 cfm and a big 16g flows 550 cfm. Here's some pics...

Sounds like a hell of a build gil.

I've been thinking about turboing. Low compression pistons, rods, thick head gasket, and 20+lbs of boost. 400hp??? hehe

Btw, the adams real street springs will hold about 280-290 hp. Brock's springs were nowhere near that. Those were about hte best i could find. Are you the one that bought my lockup?
