A possible cause...

You may want to try replacing the water temp sensor. If it failed the computer will always think that the motor is cold, and fuel it rich at all throttle openings. It would also explain your popping on over run, excess fuel in the exhaust pipes.
Probably not too expensive to try, worth it just to eliminate it as a source of problems.

This would not be tied to the temperature sensor for the guage, right? Because that works perfectly. And the fans kick on every time when the engine gets warm. I am guessing they dont work together and there are 3 separate water temp sensors, but i was curious.
No, the temp sensor is for the ECU to determine fueling while the motor is cold. I don't think they use the same sensor for the guage/ fan.

I promise to let you all know once i dive into it. It wont be until probably mid December when i will have time to even think about it. I purchased my first home last week and i work average of 50 hours a week at my job. The house has a 4 car garage/shop attached to the house, so i will finally have the space to work on my projects. :)
I will do my best to video things if I feel they are relevant.
Thanks everyone.

Mine's showing 33 mpg on the digital readout, but I just went back to stock gearing from a +2 rear, so I think I'll do an actual MPG check the next time I fill up. Don't know if the PCIII/ATRE combo has anything to do with the readout.

I read a post on here somewhere that another member on the forum could not get his bike past 150mph and he later found out that it was running on 3 cylinders but you should try this first step one start the bike cold for 2 seconds and shut her off now feel each pipe if you find a cold one that’s your problem cylinder check your plug and coil and get back to us!

Hey Guys,
Well, i tested it out and it seems that the pipe closest to my left foot when i am riding was much cooler then the other 3. This was about 4-5 seconds after i started the bike. After about 10, they all were hot as hell!
I was just touching them with my bare finger. The middle ones were hot, and the outside one near my left foot was warm, but not hot.

I have been averaging nearly 39mpg with the PCIII, flies removed, slip-ons and a Muzzy adjustable advancer, which I have not touched since I got the bike. I was told it was mapped for slip-ons even though the p.o. had stock pipes Gearing is stock and the front wheel will come right up on it's own when you wind it out in 1st, just like my old H1.

I have been thinking of adding the Muzzy Adjustable Timing advancer. What is the consensus? Even 30 around town would make me super happy. 22-24 is not good enough for me.

I'm saying your problem is a combination of things. I went from averaging 32 mpg in town to 29 since I have installed the pipercross. I'm going back to OEM tomorrow! Also, I wouldn't add anything else until I get a decent mpg.

Interesting, i have a piper cross air filter too! That would be crazy if that was causing the issue. I just cleaned it tonight, but if i can gain 3mpg by going stock, i would be ecstatic! I poured some fuel injection cleaner in the bike thusmorning, well, it ran great to work. Went i left 9 hours later, the bike was running on 2 or 3 cylinders and back firing like crazy. I got it home and took out 2 spark plugs. God, i hate changing plugs on this bike. 4 hours later i turned the bike back on and she ran great again. Stock air filter is the next fix. Is there another air filter that will help the fuel economy? I would prefer to use a reusable filter.

I don't think so! I'm installing the OEM back this afternoon. I will let you know for sure tomorrow. I haven't heard a decel pop since I've installed the pipercross though! lol Actually on cold starts I get a pop...pop...pop... the first time I get on the gas and decel after that no pop! I'm sure that a custom tune would get my mileage back to where it was but I rather get a tune for a OEM filter. Are you running Brock's map?

Viper I run a K&N and get 37.3 mpg but just a quick question have you set your suspension on your bike to your weight I just had mine adjusted by one of my track whore friends and my MPG/AVG numbers on the bike are increasing (better mileage) it may help!
P.S. are you going off the MPG/AVG # on your bike or are you calculating off your Trip/odometer ?

Just on a short ride (20 minutes) the difference was instantaneous. I'm back to 32 mpg and I change gear at 4k rpm, bleep the throttle etc. Didn't get on the highway but was getting 34mpg at 55mph in 4th gear.
It just tells you that those pipercross filter do let more air in!

Got on the highway and saw everything from 38 mpg to 47 mpg!!!! I think in 5th at 3900 rpm doing 65mph I was getting 38/39 mph well over 40 mpg going down a slope. All I did is put the OEM back in, I did take the metal screen on the back out though!

An 8% error in onboard computer calculated fuel mileage would coincide with the 8% factory speedo error. What about with the Speedo Healer?

If you have an android phone, you can download a gps software that will tell you your speed plus your mileage. I did a 30 mile trip through town and on the freeway and the odometer was perfect. It really surprised me. The app is free.

Why do you chose to cruise in 5th?
yeah the computer is off but it's a baseline we can compare bikes with. For instance mine would say Range: 120 miles and I would reset the odometer and when it's time to feel up again my mileage would be something like 110. There is too many variables for the computer to be accurate... gas quality, map, road characteristics etc, etc Plus to be real accurate you would have to ride it until it's completely empty!
For sure you should replace the pipercross and re-install Brock's map. Probably e-mail them so you sure you are installing the correct one.
