I don't care about it being off center, the cockeyedness is what I was referring too. Most of the time, I'm going to use picture: 1, 2, 3, 5 set up. Love that fender set up scott! I was just thinking about that set up yesterday. The 1 on the windshield is pretty nice as well. Is there you can mount the suction cup so it can capture the dashboard and the road while having enough room to hide behind the screen (like in a race position) ?

drag ill try a few places but I'm thinking the helmet mount would probably work best for that. our weather went to shit here again so once it warms up again ill be able to try a few things. that suction cup works really nice but I don't think I'd mount it anywhere that i can't tether it lol of course after i win the 1/2 billion dollar mega millions tomorrow nite i won't be so uneasy about losing a $300 video cam lmao

"I don't care about it being off center",...okay...no prob.Everyone has their likes.(when ya go to mount it on the front end...anywhere on there, don't say you weren't informed..... ).
Scott...you've got the deal going there!Way to go!Nice hookups.On my 07...
The setup on my 2012 still requires a 'brace' under the cam to tank deal, and the tape secures the cam body from vibrating from the wind(from the sides in the cockpit). But she works great.
The suction cup now fits on the 2012 in the dip right in front of the tank fuel cap. They did something with the concave shape there that's slightly different from the earlier bikes.I think the increased airbox design made em design a wider, flatter tank cover at least on the front part there.I was VERY happy about that. That was one thing that really was a drag....having to mount that suction off to the side, and still have the height to clear the dash.No more....

drag this was the only place it would stick and still be able to get into a race tuck

You can download any of these video editors for a FREE 30 day trial. I personally use Cyberlink Power Director and never had any problems.
Have you tried the GoPro Chest Mount? I've seen several YouTube videos and it provides a great view and it seems more stable footage.

Can you show me HOW I'm messing this up Jeff? The only option I get before importing is...the file types...which none are in there for GoPro EXCEPT under 'all file types"...clicking on that will open the GoPro files.Picking any of those files, and hitting"import" will display that "file type not supported' message. No getting around it.
"Windows Movie Maker 2 is so easy a child could use it--an incredibly patient child born to filmmaker parents who didn't mind restarting this application every few minutes. From the get-go, you get the feeling that this isn't going to be an easy program to like; Microsoft's installer doesn't play nice. It gives the user no input on program location or other options. The plain interface promises simplicity with drag-and-drop storyboard options, though during testing, it was more like drag and freeze. The program typically froze while importing MPG video files. If importing worked, Movie Maker 2 would quit responding when clips were placed on the storyboard. On the rare occasion that our testers made it to the storyboard, the program would freeze when adding one of the numerous effects. There were so many hurdles to creating a short video that no editing seemed preferable to using this software. What's more, uninstalling the program was even more tedious than installing it. It should be no surprise, then, that we can't recommend this freeware for any user".

"I bought a little HD camcorder and it saves in mp4 avc/h.264 format. Whenever i drag the file to windows movie maker the whole movie maker crashes.
How do I fix this? Do i have to convert the file? Which program can convert this HD file without ruining the quality?
thanks"

"MovieMaker can't handle AVCHD. This should not be a surprise. It can't handle HDV either.
If you use a converter to a format that MovieMaker can handle, you will lose video quality - a lot.
You need a video editor that can deal with AVCHD format video (MTS/M2TS file types). The current versions of Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere always float to the top for Windows environments".
Still think it's just me missing the boat here?Case closed....

@ Scott: I've got a Mac and a PC but no camera yet. Have you tried downloading something like Lenix on your Mac, I'm sure there is something out there that should let you do that. I use to work at the Hollywood Production center and all the editors had Macs.

I know....oh well...I just upload em onto Youtube...that works fine.Modded my camera so IF I want to shoot something shorter ....I have no problem now starting and stopping the cam with a glove on.I've got virtually unlimited gig's on Youtube anyway...so it doesn't matter really about editing. If so,they have a program on there to do it with.
Sorry if I got a bit abrasive with ya....like Drag said...it's ONLY a camera thread.

I would.BTW...that remote is ONLY able to operate within the WiFi network deal. You know that, yes? It won't work without the network helping it....like for downloading live footage or whatever. But I think you'll have more options so to speak with the GoPro as far as mounting and such.

hey just looked at that drift ...that thing is sick, love the onboard screen and remote. damn wished that would of been out when i bought the contour lol
does anyone have a mac i can upload to the puter but when i go into my iMovie I can see my vid files but they are greyed out and won't let me drag them into my editor.
how to import Contour footage to iMovie
iMovie is not compatible with MOV files that are made by the Contour
the MOV file must be converted to a m4v file or a mp4 file.
USB the cam to computer.
double click CONTOUR GPS drive icon
double click DCIM folder
double click 100media folder
click&drag each MOV file thumbnail to the desktop
close 100media folder
run Quick Time Player (double click the thumbnail or open QTP from your apps folder)
while in QTP, click File>Save As
click Save As, type name of the file,
click Where, select a destination for the movie to be saved (desktop is good)
click Format, select either Computer or Apple TV
click Save
the MOV file will convert to an m4v file.
run iMovie
Go to File>New Event
click and drag the the m4v file from desktop to the new event
the Contour footage is now ready to edit in iMovieor ....a lot easier....
just drag the MOV files to desktop
highlight and rename the file typing .m4v or .mp4
same / same

You will be happy with the GoPro but you are correct that it is very nice to have a cam that fits close to the bike if you ever want to do a low clearance mount like down on the lower fairing. The Contour would be ideal for that and I found absolutley no problem with the sound quality. This vid shot last week shows clips from GoPro mounted on top fairing pointed to rear of bike and Contour mounted to swingarm pointed to front of bike. The Contour sound better IMO. That might just be because it is out of the wind and closer to the sources of sound. The important point is that there is no weird clicking noise at all.
Drag, I have never tried the Drift and I do not know all of the features it may offer. To me, it sounds like the sound of the Drift is internal in the comparo you posted. Sounds a bit hollow but there is no wind noise. The built in view finder is a very nice feature and you also get remote opp which is a big plus and you get the close mount capabilities of the Contour and that ratchetting mount on the side of the cam is a nice idea. Someone was testing all these cams and coming up with one that did everything. It sounds like the Drift is the S1000rr of sport video cams! Can't wait to see your vids
One thing I have discovered by watching these side x side comparos is that it does not necessarily bare true in real life. My Contour has great sound, at least for what I have used it for.

Yes but did I mention the hobby chain reaction? Motorcycle riding leads to filming leads to editing leads to...God knows what next. This can consume your whole life! wait, it already has done that

I was just thinking about today. This MC stuff takes way too much of my time. I'm going to keep riding but I need to take a brake from the MC scene... get into other things. It's crazy, there is always something to buy for the bike!
