Never rode with a cop but we had an active duty military guy with us one time that pulled out his papers when a whole group of us got nabbed by DPS, only time I've ever seen anyone get off with a warning from those guys.

Dang, had another radar hit this morning, Sheriff was pulled into a gravel plant drive back off the main road and was shooting Ka Band. Picked him up at about 1/2 to 3/4 mile. I've gotten to where I won't ride without this thing.

This makes me wonder how many times they didn't come after you and why.

I dont drive the 911 without the V1. Over the 20 yrs it has saved me more times than I can remember. But, its also be 100% accurate of alerting me to when I am about to get a ticket. Fortunately only 2 over about 10 yrs so it must be helping.

Never really thought about putting on on the bike but fo sure it would have helped and probably kept me from getting my one big tic on the bike

Rook, I can't answer that question but it's alerted me now 4 times when there was a LEO right up ahead. My only explanation is there is more activity out on that road now than before.

@Extrapolator- True dat, don't want to ask too many questions.

@Cruderudy, I'd bolt that thing on to the bike, it only needs to save your bacon once. I won't leave home without mine now and I agree, if one does lock you up, at least you know it's coming. Keeps LEO honest, if there is no radar alert, he didn't have his radar on you and is just guessing your speed.

That was close, LEO shot the car up ahead with instant on radar, two blips, not much alert time but it was enough to save this guy.

Running a redline with a H.A.R.D set up in my helmet , works great , can still see the gauges and get alerts and don't have to look down to check .

I don't have blue tooth capability on the Uniden but plug a set of ear buds into the 3.5 mm jack for audio alerts.

Works fine, there is no way you should be looking down at the detector on a sportbike at speed.

Been running a Valentine One mounted on a Stem Mount, on my 14 and 14R for years. Had one on my ZX10R when I had it too. I use the Legal Speeding HARD system for visual alerts to my helmet. It has saved me multiple times. Especially love the V1 arrows to determine direction the radar hit is coming from.

I'm getting a bit nervous, just had my eighth radar save last week, I picked him up almost three miles away this time and the signal kept getting stronger and stronger until we met head to head in a blind corner. I was waaaay under the limit by then. Makes me wonder how I ever survived out here so long without one of these, way too many of these encounters lately.

Way to go brother Cruz, amazing isn't it!

I have to say though, I have all but stopped using my V1 because of in LA traffic its impossible to even go the speed limit. Absolutely worse part of living in SoCal

With all the new cars coming out having lane departure and collision alert systems I don't even turn mine on in town. It is always going off and I'm not speeding in town anyway. Once out of town on the open road then it definitely gets turned on. Saved my ass a couple times.

Yep the BSM system on some of the newer cars is creating some occasional noise on K Band but it is extremely rare where I ride and I am right on top of the car when it goes off, so I know the source and it is a low pitch beep on my detector. On a typical ride, the R3 is completely silent, so I set up several GPS enabled waypoints along the route to keep me alert and let me know the detector is switched on and at work. The calm female voice is also nice....lol! The Ka band is where the action is around here and I've set a high pitch whistle as the signal. I typically will get a single whistle from the R3 several minutes before the LEO shows himself with increasing intensity as he approaches. I never ignore Ka band, it is distinctive and I instinctively roll off the throttle, and start braking when I hear it now, there is always a LEO somewhere up ahead when I hear that whistle.

Extrapolator, you were asking about the twin suction cup mounts and how well they work. I have had only one partial failure episode to date where one cup lost suction but the detector stayed in place as the other cup held. I have found that if I attach the suction cups the night before a ride, they have time to "cure" in place and get very sticky to the point where they have to be peeled off. No loss of suction on any of my installations after that and I am completely satisfied now with the performance. Just a learning curve thing.

10-4 ... sounds like my normal experience with suction cups: They work great for a while but eventually give out, and you hope you're there to step in and avert disaster (dinged gas tank).

Hey, kinda like those sticky hook things they make for walls in your house: They claim a holding capability of X pounds ... but you just know that some day that priceless picture of your beloved late Aunt Gertrude is going to crash to the floor

Ride on, my friend ... with it right in front of your vision, I'm sure you won't have a problem

Partial fail on the suction cup event was traced back to one bike, my '11 ZX-10R where I had painted the inside of the OEM windshield with flat back paint, apparently suction cups don't like highly porous surfaces. Replaced with a Zero Gravity SR windscreen this morning, problem solved, sticks like a cat on Velcro now. Had my ninth save this morning, straight road this time, picked him up at about 2 miles. Extrapolator, get an R3, I guarantee you won't regret it.

I just came back from a 2700-mile ride to Michigan and Minnesota. I only saw 2 highway patrol. Traffic in the left lane was doing 15+mph (70 posted). I was doing 90 just to stay ahead of a Mini-van! In town is where a ticket would get written-local authorities. Coming home from Minn I was bucking a 30+ head wind. Wished for more screen.

Where were you in MN? If I had known, you might have been able to be re-united with your old seat,,,,briefly. Yah, on many of the freeways you "get" to, or need to, drive 80-90. In the last 8 years, including last summer, my now 84 year old dad and I rode to Calif. Over 6k miles in 2 weeks. It's so nice riding at those speeds, it feels like you are getting somewhere, unlike the dark bull$hit day of 55 NMSL! Dad, a couple brothers and I are headed to Deal's Gap in Sept.

Ride safe,

Twenty one radar saves since May with the R3, I had seven radar encounters in the last five rides alone. Seven encounters would have been a year's worth a few years ago, so not sure what is going on.

I'm laying low for awhile, just too much heat on the roads around here. Don't know if this is a new trend or local LEO just responding to complaints from folks who live out on the backroads.

@ Extrapolator, the Uniden suction cups have performed flawlessly over the past three months.
