Seats
08/23/12 12:54 PM

I am looking into a new seat for my 2010 zx14 and from what I have seen, it sounds like the Corbin seat is the way to go. I looked on the website and they have all kinds of different colors and options, but no pictures to see what they look like. Does anyone have any recommendation on this or know where to find pictures of these seats in each format?

Have never sat on anything but the OEM seat. Really love the look of the Sadleman Tech.

Any aftermarket seat is going to weigh more than OEM. Saddleman Tech shipping weight is 10.1 lbs.

A good way to go might be cutting down the foam in an OEM seat. I really like the look of the Tech, however.

I bought my bike used, and it only came with a Concours seat, so I can't compare to the original. I also bought a used Corbin off the forum, mainly to be able to add a backrest for two-up riding (I've bought one new Corbin before, and unless you have to have a special color combo get a used seat that's already been broken in...it sucks breaking in a new one). The Connie seat is higher, and "cushier", but the vinyl give me monkey-butt after an hour or so. The leather Corbin "breathes" much better, but the negative is that it sits about an inch lower.

Pic of plain, black Corbin...

My Corbin, I really like the green pinstriping. With cowl:

Seat came with the bike, so I don't know how much it cost. But I'd pay whatever it is - I just love that seat too much lol. Yes dual exhaust, though I've since changed it out for a full Muzzy system. Waiting to get the dyno charts emailed from the dude I went to before I update my thread, but I hit 182hp on 2 separate pulls. Pretty sweet, though my low end still needs some work.

Thanks everyone...The pictures help a lot. I like the looks of the Corbin, it looks like it doesn't make you lean forward as much as the stock seat and the transition from the pilot seat to the copilot seat looks pretty cool. I will admit, I almost traded Charlotte in last weekend for a Vulcan Voyager 1700. It was a really nice ride, but didn't have the excitement of the 14...It went 0 to 60 in about 45 minutes, oh but was it comfortable and the girlfriend liked it. I think I may just have to have two bikes....We will see how I can work that. I think for the 14 I will get the Corbin, Heli risers and new hand grips....That will help the comfort on that and I will save for the Voyager.

I have the Concours Low Gel seat that I got from a guy on here that sold his 14 and bought a Victory. I had a Tobin before that that I liked, but the Concours seat has more room to move front-to-back than the Tobin, which had an overly-generous passenger area.

You couldn't go wrong with full muzzy. I lost some down low at first but Brock's map and the "flysectomy" gives me enough grunt. I still may get a few things and a map from Ivan but that would just be icing on the cake.

Sargeant are really comfy, straight outta the box but I have a narrow waist and after long ride I can feel my hams getting stiff from low blood circulation. Also since it is a wider seat, it makes hanging off a little harder. $500 is a lot of $$ but I will have to get one in the long run!

@Danno - glad you like that Concours 14 factory gel seat! I thought it was great but didn't need it, so it went to "that guy" and now you have it.

Neat how a good seat can get around!

John, I actually think the Tobin was a little easier on my bony ass, but I hate being confined to one spot. I can move around a little on the C-14 seat. Longest day was 475 miles.

The Corbin seat will sit you back from the handlebars.
So as long as you have a long torso and/or arms, you should be good.

I swore by Corbin in the past (had one on my Nighthawk, Bandit & VFR) but I found that on the Ninjas (ZX9 & ZX12) that they sat me back too far. Likely due to the fact that the Kawis all have more aggressive riding positions. And since I don't have long arms, that didn't work for me.

I have a Sargent on my 14 and really like it.
I wish the cowl fit over the passenger seat, but with the modular seat, you can remove it and add the cowl.

Those new Tech sport seats from Saddlemen look interesting...

Cheers,

Rob

I just added the Corbin to my 2007 and LOVE it! I have had several Corbins on every Kaw out there; and once you get them broke in, I think they are hard to beat. I didn't mind the factory seat, but I have two little ones who want to go riding, with really no place to hold on. The backrest made it a no brainer for me.

I had my stocker redone by Richs

http://www.richscustomseats.com/
Mine is custom fit to my ass as I live nearby. Gel insert with leather cover. There was people from Canada and Idaho getting their seats done while I was there. I imagine he would do a generic recover if you wish. But its a treat to have it formed for you. Guy is a trip!

I promise you guys, if you put a group buy together, you could get Loren Mock at Baldwin Motorbike Saddles make you ZX14R seats. And you'd get to be specific with what you want, so each saddle would fit the rider. Not cheap, hence suggestion to make a group buy deal with him. Not fast, he is a master craftsman and moves at a snails pace but the quality is second to none.

Six week wait as of today.

He already makes a more sporting version than my Grand Touring saddle, which isn't far off from what many of you would want.

All the seats he makes, many close enough to judge his work for your kind of saddle:

May be due to the fact that all Kawis more aggressive riding. Because I do not have long arms, does not work for me. Most of the Mens brown leather business bags have particular rooms for laptops and just like cwmalls.com Designer Women Leather Shoulder Bags have some smaller compartments for cell phones, MP3 players and some other digital devices.

Picked up a brand new 2011 C-14 seat while touring Idaho and Montana. $175 from Recycled Cycle in Hayden Id. (Shipped my other one home from there) They got some unused ones from Cop bike conversions. Me and my gal really REALLY liked it on our 1500 mile swing through Western Montana. I have the 1" risers with lowered (Buel) pegs and it worked better than my custom leather gel seat!! Got it mainly for her comfort but I was more than pleased with my portion of this stocker.

I'm guessing they have more than just the one I got.
