I saw a cop pull a nice move yesterday. Saw him 1 block behind with lights on. I'm in heavy traffic. I pulled over to the right which left him a clear center lane. Only problem, the guy on the far left had a few vehicles in back of him and obviously had no idea a cop was coming. That guy pulled into the center right in front of the cop who was doing about 70 mph. The cop jumped the brake and turned /slid into the far left lane then nailed the gas again. I just wish I would have had my video cam rolling. Had my two kids in the back seat.
Shit, I never road like that in traffic in my life. -----------I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure he doesn't respond to all emergencies with that much "enthusiasm" all of the time. If so there is a Rookie who is gonna be outa work before long.
Similar situation, I had a cop pass me doing over 100. I was just about to change into his lane. I looked behind, in mirror and had signal on. ZOOOOM---there he was and there he went. Passed me and his siren just happened to be at the low interval--I never heard him 'till he was ahead of me. No way he could have avoided rear ending me and killing us all. Thank God it was not a moment later or my girls and me would be dead.
SO, I have always done my best to get out of emergency vehicle's way ASAP but I'm starting to wonder if that is not putting me in danger. There are plenty of times when someone won't hear a siren immediately especially when the squad car is at high speed. cops don't seem to always be aware of that.

OK I am a career cop as well. I refuse to chase sport bikes. Because if the rider knows what he is doing you wont catch them and second if he doesnt know how to ride someone will get seriously hurt. Ive seen too many bike and car chases end badly due to over zealous cops refusing to give up the chase. (Now a foot pursuit This old timer gonna catch ya, cuz I dont eat donuts and live to workout...)
Rook if you get the chance to ride with some cops on sportbikes go for it you will love it. Especially if they are special unit types! We stare death in the face so often we have to go to extremes to get a rush J/S

Wow, a cop asking you what she's got. Nice.
The cop that gave me a ticket last week said if I had bike like this, he'd have done the same thing.....(speed) Then he went on to ask how much I gave for it. Its like they have an admiration for this bike that they want to express, but can't get too excited about.......

Yea the cop’s here are cool about a week ago I was hitting the twisties on my way to work and got stuck behind a cop speed limit is 40 mph in the straight and 25 mph in the turns so I was following him thinking well there goes my fun but when we came up to the first curve he punches it thru the turn so I rolled on the throttle and we hit the hole set at 60-70 mph! I guess I should mention I work in the middle of the night!

Cooter and Johnny186, dudes, restores my faith that there are some gems out there, i.e. good cops that don't forget who the bad guys are. It's nice to hear. Rook and I have had a few bad experiences, I have never met a cool cop except for June 2010. On one early commute, on the 400, with very little traffic, I was hammering to work (where I worked as a school principal) doing 160km on a cbr 600, head tucked below the fairing and gunning her while lying on the tank (I think I was accelerating, but can't remember). To my surprise an OPP officer (Ontario Provincial Police) on a Harley pulls up beside me. He waves me to slow down with one hand (he looked like Pancho from Chips). I thought for sure he was going to pull me over. Once I slowed down, as he directed, he pinned the throttle and disappeared over the horizon, probs at 150km plus. I was like, WTF? At least he did not give me a ticket! After I saw him exit, I promptly got back on the throttle and pinned it at 180...Most cops would just light you up and site you, not this guy, he was cool. If I ever get challenged to race a cop at a light, I will write you guys, but I am not holding my breath.

eheheaEEEEE!! I have been stopped a couple times and just given a friendly warning. Also one time I was on the gas hard coming into a corner and a cop appeared in the oncoming lane. He just flashed his headlights at me and I slowed down. Once around the corner, I saw another cop staked out at a crossroad. Good thing cop #1 was there to give me the signal or the speed trap would have gotten me. That is about as cool as it gets.

What is the best tip you can give me to avoid getting speeding tickets? Do Lazar jammers work?
Aren't cops sorta onto the whole lazar jammer thing by now....I mean, wouldn't you stop someone if your lazar jammed just because you knew you would find a lazar jammer in his vehicle? That's a lot nicer trophy than writing up the next guy for 10 over, aina?

seriously...!
I'm sure a lot of cops enjoy a good speed fix and I'm sure they totally relate to illegal (albeit reasonably safe), recreational speeding. They stop speeders and write tickets just because that's what is expected of them. It's not cops' job to judge whether or not speeders are competent to discern safe high speed conditions or if they have adequate skill to operate their vehicle at high speed. I'm sure they often have a pretty good idea if the guy they pull over really is a threat to public safety or just taking the ordinary risks inherent to sport riding.
...so if you have any tips to help non-cop, fellow speed lovers out...by all means, let's hear it??
IS a lazar jammer gonna work, or no?

Cop stories: I ride with a good friend who is now a retired local police Captain. Good guy. I assume he's also a get out of jail free card. (That's still to be determined.) In the 1980s I drag raced a MIAMI METRO POLICE car on BIRD ROAD at about 2:00 A.M. On my old Kawasaki H-2. More recently, I was pulled over for speeding and the cop didn't ticket me. When I told him "thanks", he said "Don't thank me, thank JESUS." So I did......

Earlier this year I launched the 1109 ZRX right in front of a cop and did not see him until the clutch was released and pulled over before he could turn off the side street. I pull off the helmet and he says "Why do I have more problems with the gray hairs than I do the kids". He looked like he was fresh out of skule and kinda embarrassing.
