Wow Chrly, it does not look too bad at all to hit the TSL....and still you went faster?...and the rpm went higher?

Which video were you referring to rook.? The first one , Mojave, or teh second one , Colorado..

At Mojave it appears I was hitting the 11500rpm limiter for about 12 seconds ( in 5th)
I was way down on power in Colorado, only hitting barely over 10,300 rpms . The racers say you lose about 15% vs seal level because of the elevation,,. I shud have had another 700 rpms to go....

Well Texas is sea level so there will be no excuses come March 22 :)

Love that sound!! Maddy, you use your 2 step and you will bounce off of it a time or two launching and then redline first gear. It sounds amazing.

a different look

Wow chrly
That was an awesome start, I watch Ricky Gadson all the time and i bet he would be happy with that.

Did you use any traction control ?

Thanks Maddy but in reality, I am a world slower than Ricky Gadson... Maybe a universe slower LOL but no, I do not use traction control.

The thing that bugs me most about top speed runs on a stock bike is the 'Congratulations!' that ensue. You are tucked in for about 30 seconds with WOT. OK if you want to have that experience, but please refuse all adulations. It takes no skill to sit still and point bike straight. I would rather congratulate a retard for not shitting his pants or Kofla for not attending an anti-Trump rally.

The thing that bugs me most about top speed runs on a stock bike is the 'Congratulations!' that ensue.

Its all about the fine tuning of the bike, what you can get away with to leave it text book stock.
Sitting on the bike for the straight line run is the easiest part, yes I agree but the preparation is the fun part.

For example
When I rode speedway , flat track and dirt track we used to lighten our bikes by drilling out the axles, back then they were solid, lightening the front wheel from the outside, boring out the end 6" of the handle bars etc.

Then they came down on us altering the bikes, so we lightened the front and rear wheels from the inside, drilled out then capped the axles, Used plastic nuts and bolts for the plastics.

So one of my challenges now is to make the stock mufflers lighter and flow just as good as my stubby mufflers.

You are correct, its not the run on the salt at 350kph (217.48mph) that is the hard work, its pushing the envalope with the rules and mods you can do :-)

Hope this makes sense xox

Drilling holes is fine and dandy. But if you want to reduce weight, I suggest dexometh. That induces abortion in elephants, but makes humans shit for hours straight. I would participate in such an event only if Clementine Ford was the target at the finish line.

Hagrid and I are having a competition on who can write the most triggering comments. And I am a clear winner. The only person I have not insulted was Rook, but once I was very tempted. Positivity are great and all, but they come with a boring price. Look at dave350, all he does is ask silly questions, all of which have been answered a million times and no one calls him out? Why must I be the only to insult when they say dumb shit.

Hey Chrly
What do you find to be optimum launch RPM ?
3000 or 3500 rpm, im having me ecu reset and I cant figure out what to have it set at....

Thanks Maddy

I think it takes nerve / guts to pin the throttle and hold it there nearing 200 mph. I've never attended or participated in a top speed run event like this, but I could easily see me high fiving somebody who just did a 190+ run.

And I wanna read about how Maddy, Charley and anybody else do in their top speed runs

Yes with stock gearing 3500 +- is what I try to leave at.. Try being the key word here...I got back into motorcycles in 1999 at 62. My reflexes and stuff are kinda wore out but I enjoy the racing and racing community so I keep going :)
Do you have a two step limiter on your 14? It would be an electronic addon as they are not stock . the stock shift light is also a launch light that I can set but it does not limit the rpms but makes it easier than looking directly at the tach ,then after launch, it will come on at shift points.. This video show it pretty good at .57 minutes ,

Shift light is yellow top right dash

Maddy, I think we wandered around a bit from your question LOL

My question is, when flat out at top speed can you hold the throttle full and the ecu will limit the rpm or are you best to manually sit just under the limiter rpm (if it has one in top gear top speed)?

You will know after one run , what is best or go to one of teh Land Speed sites and ask a racer..My personal opinion is that I try not to hit the limiter by setting my shift light now at 10500 which gives me just enough time to shift before hitting the limiter..altho I did hit it in the 3/4 shift in this video 3/4 limiter hitYou definitely need to ask your ECU guy what the new limiter setting is .

And how easy is this entire process? I guess if you generally run down the road at 190 mph or more, it may be boring, but to those of us who think 150 is fast, our minds are changed a bit when we start nearing 200 mph. I am not sure if it is teh mental thing of exceeding 200 or the fact that at my first race in Mojave I watched a bike racer leave the end of the 2 1/2 mile runway at speed nearing 200 ,. He lived but I don't think they could count the broken bones . then at my second Mojave event I was standing across from the speed traps ready to be in the next ten people to make runs, when a bike went through and the lites flashed 207 mph , and then, the rpms never dropped. I watched and waited for the sound of the rpms to drop . I and everyone else turned to watch as the rider went off the end of the runway with the throttle still at max.Unfortunately , this time the rider did not survive. Hard to get the picture of that dust cloud that arose out of my mind.

Which video were you referring to rook.? The first one , Mojave, or teh second one , Colorado..

The first one. Rookie, Mojave 2016. Looks like you hit 11,500 rpm and as far as I can tell, you surpassed 186 mph.

So the TSL was disabled but the redline was set at at 11,500 rpm? You were hitting the 11,500 rev limiter but there was no TSL to worry about.

Also, sorry for miscalculating the top speed limiter in kph, Maddy. It should be 300 kph. I went back and fixed that.

Yes the TSL had been removed and redline raised. I do not remember the exact speed on that run. gearing commander says 188 mph is possible and we had a slight tail wind so maybe 190 ? I am very poor at record keeping for which I am embarrassed . It is really a neccessity when you are experiencing such changing circumstances.. One of my problems is I just like to ride , never really appreciated what is necc to be successful.

Why not just use a GPS and record the top speed?I guess I mean on the street.Since those events are timed. It's a bit dicey law wise, but the run actually only would last about a minute.Maybe 1 and 1/2.I was always under the impression that the rev limiter IS the TPS.I mean, you can't safely run the motor for any length of time at a high redline...right?Something around 13,14K?On the 14.So the factory is 11,500?That gives ya into half way at least redline limiting.(having it limit at mid redline). My h2 has a top speed limiter on the speed display.Separate from the redline limiting. That's been disabled through flashing. And it limits at 14,200.13,500 is the factory setting.Does the 14 have that kind of deal?I THINK,not sure,my 14 limits at 12 something...

<< I held my throttle wide open for about 15 seconds in the following video of a 5th gear top speed run at Mojave Mole in 2016.. It was my initial LSR event and after qualifying at increasing speed, getting my license to run wide open, I was so excited that I forgot to shift to 6th so you can see what happens once bike is topped out..It is actually pretty gentle reduction reduction in rpms . At 3:30 , you can see that it is "bouncing" off teh limiter Speed was 192.8.>>

Chrly, am I missing something? A 14R with stock gearing is not geared to do 192mph in 5th.

I THINK,not sure,my 14 limits at 12 something...

You must be talking about your H2 redlining at 13-14k. If your 14R was flashed, the rev limiter can be set to anything you want. Usually they go an extra 500 rpm.

I would feel comfortable running my 14 at 11000 rpm for a minute or two. Some LSR course are long enough to do that. I wouldn't want to run it a lot higher than that for more than a few seconds. I would not set mine for 13000rpm or higher--I think that is too much for the 14. I never have heard of anyone running their 14 or busa up that high. Chrly up there is running at 11.5k for a good spell in his video and his bike is still running great.

I warned you in here somewhere about my record keeping ;) I think that run was my 191 as teh gearing says 188mph max but we did have a pretty strong tailwind and I was definitely topped out . I promise to keep better records in Texas :)

I found the official record listing for Oct 2-16 first three runs were for Qualifying. I do not remember what happened on run 4 . run 5 I believe was my final qualifying run and i think run 6 was my 5th gear - fogot to shift run..

Mojave 10/2016 records .

I ran 7th out of 26 bikes in my class ( no nitorus or blowers) Here is full list. Complete participant list 10/2016 ...

I'd still like to know if the 14 has a separate engine retard setting not connected to the rpm limiter.

Grn, I know for a fact my 2013 does not have a limiter other than teh top speed limiter. If I wanted a Launch limiter, I would need to add one like MSD Launchmaster RPM Limiter. Like I mentioned above, teh stock 2013 has a launch LIGHT setting and a SHIFT lite setting that will let your have the lightt turn on at say , 3500 rpms and then once you pass 3500 it turns off until you reach your shiftlite setting of 10500 or whatever.

This is the top light in the right(throttle side) of teh dash .

So basically you're saying the (redline)'limiter' is the top speed limiter, the redline setup. On my H2,I can set the rev limiter wherever I want. But the dash readout will only go to 189.And I had that disabled. So the dash readout will now read the top speed over 189.I guess that's what I was asking about with the 14.Possibly something in the speed sensors? On the H2,they're in the rear wheel, not the crank. The 14's in the crank, yes?
