Grn,
Look, bustyourchops till the bikes come. You better hope mine doesn't come soon here look here. I asked you a yes or no do not duck soup out of the kitchen. I think I have to agree with Priv-E. He has an opinion, you have yours. I am choosing because you have yet to answer my question so I can gain some insight as to how you approach the tech going on the bikes.
If I see you all set in your ways, I'm just goofing on the paint chips and tire licks. We have zip for ABS on this bike. I don't want, nor need more is more on the one hit wonder is get me far away as possible from harm is safety ahead no metal. Now, in a way, I am back on your side, Grn.
Hit it... Yes or no me now. Ever squeeze an ABS in a dangerous situation and it kept you upright, yes or no? That is ABS.

You do realize of course that disabling the rear brake on the new bike is gonna be impossible without creating a possibly unrideable bike...you have considered that, right?ABS or no,that sensor is telling the ECU what's happening with that rear caliper....it IS using that caliper to make corrections to wheel spin. This aint yer 40's Harley.

I think I've established [you, Grn] never tried ABS. It opened my eyes and I'll take the tech weight. I will show you a remote aim at the tone wheel as per where it used to sit in the caliper. The master has no hose at the end, but has no bubbles in the master either. It can load up in the plug if it wants to use the rear brake.

DK - from what I can see the 14R's brakes are the same units as the Gen1 and Gen2 bikes, with the exception of the front rotors being a bit lighter... I would like to have ABS as an option myself cause I've had the rear wheel floatin' above the pavement while ridin' 2up and it was a little bit SCARY! I've also braked hard enough to skid the front wheel while emergency braking from 130, but luckily and thanks to some unseen guardian angel I didn't go down - I think that having ABS would have at least kept me from ruining a pair of perfectly good drawers! So I hopw they bring it to the US at least as an option next year. That way those who don't can leave it off, those of us who would like to have an extra crutch can option up!

Well ya never know could be Hey, when my Stealer was putting my 3month old ZX14 on his ute I asked him about ABS thats on the UK ZZR14,s he replyied no too $$$ an stuffing around! I do know when I was 2 up hitting a 35km left bend to hot @ 145km I made it around with the 04CBR1100xx Great Dual-link brake System, & yet at 40kmph down 20-25kmph I hit that ute in the Lefthand corner on my 2010ZX14 so in a way in a spit second K-Trac might of stopped me hitting that ute and not being able to ride since June 14 last year !!!!will I buy the new one ? nah this bike I have is the first Machine in my 49 years that I,ve ever spent money on LOL so @ $19 k new on 11 May 2010 = about $4.5k in Mods = $23,500 @ 5000kms with the 2011 run out at $16700 on the road ? that makes my 2010ZX14 A Keeper

Green: Yep nice package. I hope the gen2 comes with abs. By then I'll have my track bike and will be really carefull on the street, the 14R will mainly be used for 2 up sport touring, I can see the givi luggage transforming into picnic baskets. And you don't need to make apology threads if prive and hub had to apologize every time they bruised an ego...

Thanks bigwillie! Don't get me wrong the brakes are great but I was hoping a 30 hp increase would warrant better brakes not just lighter wheels and better quality rotors. It is a pipe dream but I wish beemer would jump in the hypersport market it'll be "their" loss and our gain. We need more competition in that market.i

Some will upgrade and some won't. I love the fact that there is the 14R but more importantly I want to see not hear about the dramatic performance improvement. If there's rain or damp roads, YES power modes & traction control all day. If there's a fast crazy kink in the road, I'm at 100 and need to be at 45, YES I'm spanking the slipper clutch but the biggest safety feature for me is the ABS. The electronics will allow pushing the 14R closer to bike limits but not good thinking on the street. I still love the fact I have full control over my bike...that's just me. IMO ABS more applicable to everyday street riding conditions for me to warrant the jump to the new bike.
No sides here but I'm with Dragking's thinking for how I need to progress away from my current 14. If I had the 50K mileage of Grn's Blue beast, deposit would already be down for the 14R. No one can say how 14R will be over the competion or Gen 1 14 until Ricky G, Brock or guys here can give true statements (still can't believe they still don't have one yet). The latest video showing Ricky at track in GA and Brock on the dyno is a pre-production 14R with normal mods by Roarin Toyz not true stock production bike; although #'s still look good....waitin to see the light...

The dimensions and weight of the new bird are virtually unchanged....raise in weight 20 lbs...something like that.I'm not saying anyone should or should not get a 14R.If a guy's comfortable with his present 14,and is havin fun riding....I'd say keep it.Nothing wrong with the earlier bikes.Nothing at all. Most of you guys here have WAY more power mods going on than I ever thought of having!Your bikes look way faster just sitting still than mine ever did.I only got the new bird for the upgrade in rideability. The HP and stuff is naturally gonna be a fun thing. But I was SO impressed with my 07,that when this new one came out with the suspension upgrades and the ktrc and such,I really wanted to give er a go.I can't really imagine at this point a smoother running bike than the earlier 14's...but apparently Kawasaki HAS done it again. We'll see.I honestly think that the zx14 is THE most comfortable motorcycle out there.Period.Ergos sometimes need to be tweaked a tad...but overall...she's the smoothest bike around IMO.And she aint no Harley...so expecting a supersport bike to be like a bagger just aint gonna happen. You know what I mean.No diss to baggers at all.Or tourers. But she is first off...a supersport motorcycle.
I think...maybe I'm wrong here...but I think IF you're riding, and whatever you're doing...carving,turning,downshifting at speed...whatever it is,you probably will NOT even feel the new stuff working.I really think this bike is gonna be REALLY pilot interactive once a guy gets the hang of switching things around for various conditions on the selector switch(es)All of it's 'on the fly' stuff.Gonna take time to figure it out for sure.It may be capable of a lot more than anyone is thinking.(except the engineers of course )
HP and Torque don't mean much if ya can't get it to the wheel effectively.I think all that's changed now.

Hey Grn, you are right about how the interaction of the electronics will have that "pilot interaction" and should be expected in 21st century bikes. The best way I can say this and you can call me crazy but I want to continue learning to feel what the bike is doing underneath me before switching to autopilot electronics; I say this as rider without the long riding years and/or experience many here have already. The power is going to be crazy (better be) with the 14R and traction control is a must to transfer that power to the ground full throttle.............Shouldn't the 14r be in the states by now? Need real world test reports........

She's here. The 14R is here.Parts diagrams already up on the Kawi website. No manuals yet....but guys are already working on their new bikes...needing parts or whatever...seeing where something goes or what's involved.Nobody here has theirs yet...but we will VERY SOON.Bunch of dealers have em all over the country.

Who knows DK? Maybe Beemer will post an entry into the "Hypersport" market aimed directly at the 14 and the Busa, maybe it's about time someone did - more competition breeds better bikes for us!!!

blue there are cases where you are in a down hill run in the tight stuff hard under brakes and engine braking and some rear slip, a little two much engine braking and rear brake and the ABS will let the brakes off, ass it thinks its starting to skid or slip.
It doesn't know your down hill going into a corner, front and rear sensor's have an imbalance in Wheel RPM and ABS can only correct this by reducing the brake pressure to the calipers, getting the RPMs back together
This will let the hole bike go and you speed up in the corner as your hoping to slow down.
Herd of guys crashing in the early years with ABS as it couldn't be turned off when you wanted to play hard in the tight stuff, so most now have a switch.
That was some years ago, Sure it would be well sorted by now
Some BMW and other bike have 3 or 4 sensitivity positions you can change
