@Motero: would you mind if I inquired about any updates to your shifting observations?
@Yes, please do. Yours is now the field specimen besides the url's bike. You both came down with some sort of tranny disease and those crates can sit. Pull that sword out because it will be needed. Heads will roll wit dis new R model.

I have a tendancy to put my foot in my mouth.

By saying "everyone" said he couldn't shift I should have said "some people" sorry bout that

Changed oil, still sweet as upshifting, still not impressed with the feel of the downshift, regardless of how fast or firm, it slams inlouder than any other bike I have owned, over 30 all jap, just in case you see an opening there grn,
And still have a secondary action in the lever as it goes through its throw, that may be part of the nature of the beast ,it feels like the drum or something is giving a little kickback as the lever is pressed down I get a small pulse of upward motion on the lever,
Does anybody else get this? Is everybody getting smooth as glass lever throw on downward stroke? No feedback whatsoever until it reaches the end of its stroke?
Going to dealer for its first official service, ill point out my observations to mechanic, if he feels what I feel, and says this is normal, ill be making sure he records it.

Well, thanks metero, this discourages me to think I can't snick in the down 3-4, means the shift arm may need a revise? I cannot discount the shift star or the cam-drum at the end of the drum. There is this old trick done to a few shift mods. One is to elongate the bottom slot on the 161 shift-shaft.

But then again, the upper riveted fork is moving that drum star. Those pins shift the up and down location. Same idea if you move the pins to the fork tips or weld more at the curve of the fork tip to shift it faster, who knows? Now, if greenie has an idea? I think now is the time the rest of this shift shit is speculation. I'm no engineer. I'll leave that to the xyz peeps. Too many areas for me. Figure the experts will take a stab at it now.

Motero and Hub...you guys have got this deal so fucked up it's amazing.Unbelievable really. How either one of ya can actually ride a bike and manipulate a clutch lever,throttle,brake...turn signal...any of it...is beyond me.Two guys that have their heads so far up their respective asses that they don't even KNOW the fuckin Sun is shining here.Geez.I've NEVER EVER heard so much BS in my life...58 years...NEVER heard guys talk so fucked up as you two.You this, you that..you said...you did.....FUCK!!!!Change the story..switch the comments...make shit up....you guys...amazing.I don't want yer bike to blow up....it's just an expression of exasperation towards someone who clearly feels that everyone who asks a question about his comments is or tries to get some clarification about something is putting him down.Geez....go ride.Take yer bike to the shop.Continue to not listen.Block out all words of 'maybe you could'....in other words...you two...do it YOUR way.And get the SAME results .

HUb wrote..."this discourages me to think I can't snick in the down 3-4, means the shift arm may need a revise?"...geez dude...how many times I got to tell ya...and SHOW ya with my shifting vid...there's NOTHING wrong with the shifting on this bike....NOTHING.Go check out my 'snicking' down throught the gears...without clutching. Then come back and say.."I don't think I want this problematic bike''...fuckin fine....DON'T get one.Sheesh.I don't care...I've GOT one.And she's a beautiful work of engineering.MUCH improved over my beloved 07.

You could be right, you could be wrong, anger is an energy,
The sun aint shining here at the moment,
Make shit up, my man, you are the chief maker upper here,
If you honestly believe there is absoloutley zero chance of anything being not 100% correct with my gearbox/shift, then your must have the same pulsation comming back through the lever as mine???
Well has it?
Can you actually just compare?
Reply to the specific?
A simple yes or no will do, thanks very much.

I havent rode another, hence why I said maybe. This is the nature of the beast, hoping someone will tell me, they all shift like that, then we can all forget about it, so im asking you grn, does yours shift with zero kickback from lever throw, not clutch lever, shift lever.
I have not said its fuked, only that it feels wrong to me, thats why im on here, looking for a reference point, can you help?

"not clutch lever, shift lever"...hmmm....this is what you were talking about all this time?.Geez....no wonder it got so screwed up.My shift lever shifts very solid and goes right in.Very clickish. It'll click right into any gear I choose...with or without clutch...except of course...neutral to 1st.But all downshifting or upshifting...she clicks right in...no odd feel at the shifter at all.EVER.I can't imagine what 'pulsing' would be coming from a shift lever.I've never had that happen.

You know...I'm trying to be helpful here...but I have to say...this topic is not sounding okay to me.You first mentioned it was a downshifting issue...I said mine doesn't downshift strangely.I made a video of mine downshifting with and without the clutch...so you could see what I was saying. Then you said...NO...it's when I pull in the clutch, roll off the gas,and from 4th to 3rd...it clucks so bad that everyone turns their heads.Okay...so I posted a video of my doing it as you described how YOU were shifting. There was no clunk with mine...in any gear change operation...fast...slow....nothing.

Now you're saying..."it's pulsing 'at the shift lever'.....okay...I don't know WHAT you're experiencing.I can't imagine a shift lever 'pulsing'.How could it do that?it's either shifting...or sitting there waiting.Pulsing through the lever(I assume you mean CLUTCH lever here)...I could possibly see that..but only if a guy was letting the lever out VERY SLOWLY...or pulling it in VERY SLOWLY.I can' see any other way it would feel like that.

So if you want me to say....'I don't know'...That's fine with me.What you're NOW describing..I don't know.Never felt a shift lever pulsing.I toe my shift lever...and that's it.I don't ride putting pressure on it...either from pushing down on it,or lifting up under it.IDK.

It seems the farther 'we' go with this deal...the more it looks like you want me to say...'I don't know'...for whatever reason.Okay...I don't know.

Maybe when they tear your engine apart they'll find out what the heck it is.IDK.Never heard of a shift lever pulsing...sorry...I hope your bike will be okay....

"If you honestly believe there is absoloutley zero chance of anything being not 100% correct with my gearbox/shift, then your must have the same pulsation comming back through the lever as mine???"...This is what I'm trying to get straight. Is it the LEVER(clutch)you're feeling this through...or the SHIFT lever. It may be clear to you...but to me...a CLUTCH lever is not a SHIFT lever. You keep saying both...IDK what you're speaking about when.

"pulsation comming back through the lever"....(here you mean...'CLUTCH LEVER?")....sorry...to me...this is something other

"not clutch lever, shift lever"....this is what you are saying....shift lever.Sorry...to me...this is something other than trying to get a straight answer...

I dont care if you feel like i want you to say you dont know. This is not a game of one upmanship to me, so stop taking it personally, my only concern is mechanical, I only ask if its the same on yours or not. that answer you gave is that it is not.can we leave it at that?

the gear lever!!!! gear shift!!! i am not and never have been talking about the clutch!!! only you have!!!
AND if you read the original thread, in my SECOND post, i mentioned this pulse I am feeling through the LEVER,GEAR change lever.
I am not describing this NOW, I described IT in my SECOND post!!!
how could it do that, I dont know, i havent got a breeze, I just know how it feels, and what it is doing, and i posted it here, to see if anybody had anything similar, as to me it shifts abnormally, in relation to every other bike i have ridden or owned.

SHIFT LEVER- thats connected to gearbox, title of original thread, gearbox
CLUTCH LEVER- i have no problems here, if i do can i have your cell number??

".This is what I'm trying to get straight. Is it the LEVER(clutch)you're feeling this through...or the SHIFT lever. It may be clear to you...but to me...a CLUTCH lever is not a SHIFT lever. You keep saying "

WHy did you place (clutch) in brackets??This is your doing, again I did not mention clutch here, so can we forget this clutch obsession?

I apreciate your imput and effort in trying to help, a little more thought, or if there is any confusion, ask for more specific details, it would save an awful lot of time and energy, both mine and yours, and everybody elses for that matter, although some might be having a laugh out of all this.

i have a dodgy feeling in the gear shift lever as it goes through its throw,it is not a smooth click, and very loud clunk, i wont even describe it as a clunk, its more clang/bang into most down shifts, not including nuetral to first, thats pretty much the same as any other bike ive owned,
my question was solely if this is how it is with everyone elses, it appears not to be the case, therefore i conclude, unless i am completely mad, which is possible, thats there is something not right with my gearbox, somewhere between the shift lever and shift forks and drum, now i cant imagine the drum being machined wrong, it just would not do its intended job,and the primary drive is only going one direction, so is there any other possible thing that might allow
backward movement? anywhere between the counter/output shaft and the forks, shift drum? that is giving me this feedback? experts?? anything spring to mind?
i can live with the loud gearchange if thats simply how it is, but the change just does not feel right imo

"Where is the 3-4 guy?"...geez HUB...still can't get it right. It was 4th to 3rd ya lamebrain .4th to 3rd.it was NEVER 3rd to 4th 'shifting issues' with that guy.He made it point to rag on my questions about what exactly he meant....fried his brain....hope his fuckin bike blew up to tell ya the truth..asshat.

If you listen to yourself, not to many will show up here with the 'answer attitude' you bring to this site. You sound like how you describe the dealer level with, 'it's normal' kind of, "If mine does not do funny things, yours does not either, have a nice day."

That is why you do not qualify to help the OP's here. How you can take a shift quality personal, not discuss all the parts as the OP has discussed. These are specific parts and I don't think you can keep up with the conversation. You have 'it's normal' mindset with the ticking and now the tapping. LOL

I may have to warn the OP's with a question that may [have to] start wit:

I have a question without Mr. "hope it blows up" Attitude. Or...
I have a question wit everyone else IS welcomed too is toot away...

New/Used biker lurking in disite >>>

Oh look! He's answering one of your questions now in his head?!!?!?!?

I've got a question Motero...do you always blip the throttle when you downshift? And how much...do you try to match the engine revs with the blip right at downshifting? Mines an '11 but I'll get a slight clunk sometimes downshifting if my 'blip' timing/revs/whatever is off...which I don't recall ever experiencing with any of my other jap bikes. Seems the bigger the blip or more revs, the smoother the downshift. Just my 2 pennies.

P.S. With mine it makes a difference whether just cruising or high speed downshift decel/braking. It actually seems happier with the racing style downshift/decel in a hurry.

One more thot, not sure if anyone mentioned, probably because it's so obvious, but the chain-slack adj. could also be a factor. yes no ?

FWIW, I have been paying attention to my shifts lately to see if I feel anything odd. I get the obligatory clunk going into first, but the rest are smooth, up or down. Haven't had a missed shift or false neutral yet. Sounds like you have a unique situation do hopefully they do find something so you can get it sorted.

"audio, That makes 3 R's with questionable shifts. 2 euros, 1 us. Even if a leftover was a screaming deal... Pass"...yes...let fear of a virtually non-existent issue stop you from living your dream.Go look on the dragbike forums...anyone there having a shift issue?...how about here...one person talking about some deal that is clearly....who knows? The rest of us new owners are reporting excellent shifting quality...but make sure you don't listen to us...let one voice make your decision for you.'

"That makes 3 R's with questionable shifts"...that makes NOTHING..nada...nobody knows who riding what..or if they even own a bike. You can be ANYTHING you want on the www..even a Master Tech.....think about that Audio. And btw...get the 14R....you won't be sorry.Regardless of who says what about what. You go to 14Rocketman1's channel on Youtube....check out the shift quality from Joe-A's bike...then make your decision. There's the REAL deal...not just a bunch of yammering.

OK buy you I have 3 questionable bikes against yours, the 4th variable being fine? Relax about me buying bike. You don't have to sell me. All you have to do is keep beating crap out of it, see if yours winds up like the 3 others. I won't take motero/2 other R's out of my buying decision.

All we need is a 4th complaint, it is like you without a cracked frame. But the other frames were still out there. So, sort of think like that. Don't try to come to some conclusion, there are 3 bike riders that think they have no problem? Even one dealer could duplicate the complaint. Think about that for a second.

Again, you jump right in the hot oil without thinking.

"Again, you jump right in the hot oil without thinking"....you mean...like you, right?JUmp right in...without thinking. That's where we part ways....among other places.

Kinda hard to argue with results....one's you can actually back up and see.And hear.OOPS...sorry,I forgot...you no longer can hear well...and your vision...pretty hammered as well.Nevermind.I'm going riding AGAIN...right now..it's great weather...bike's running awesome. Not peep of'not being okay' with THIS one.C-ya....

...it was AUDIO who was thinking about buying...not 'your Highness".I could care less if you get one.Better for the bike if you don't...at least it'll get a good home...

Well, audio and I were thinking of moving up the torque chain. I can't speak for audio, but I should mirror your comment and 'boo fucking whooo' is speak for me mirroring comment. A good home is changed fork oil, higher compression because I use those kitty litter bags on it. You laughed back then. I laugh now being so close on the comp scale.

NOLTT and home is where the compression IS. Did you call me 'year hi nice' to see you and you want me to be friends? No wonder someone like you is a friend to someone? Buddy blow up your bike I hope it does?

AGAIN...right now..it's great weather...bike's running awesome.Not peep of'not being okay' with THIS one.C-ya...

Here... While you're going out, check the mode switch like a pilot flips the flaps before take off. Do a smoky burnout on the top of dis hill. Lite up the tire. Use a match, I don't know how to start an ass up? Those 'riders' are not shifting the talk, figure you'd K-skid the walk over the dirt pile?
