Hey Seno
Glad You got your new bird, ride it like you stole it and enjoy my friend!
I am with you when it comes to new tires they scare the shit out of me as well especially when the weather is chilly out. I once read to clean the new tires with simple green spray cleaner too remove the coating on the new tires but not sure if that would work.

DOGO Thanks for the Break in article it was very informative.

Dogo...I believe ya man. With these beasts...ya never REALLY know what's gonna happen. These bikes are notorious for having something weird happen to em.And I don't mean just the 14's.Suzukis' had their share of stuff going wrong. And the others.

I do believe the owner's manual on the earlier 14's said to take er easy on the tires for the 1st hundred miles. No hard braking,no serious manuvering.I usually do about 50 miles...then start leanin her in more and more.Don't know anything about these Metzlers though.I'd say hard breaking could be one of the worst things you could do...initial cupping or whatever could be a problem after a while?May not even see it on there.

I'm very curious about the new seat. This was a BIG BUMMER on the earlier bikes.

know a couple guys here don't believe me... but my '06 was broke-in as per the owners manual, to the letter, and threw a rod..., So for my '08, I broke it in using Brock's recomendations... Basically, run it hard, change the oil, and let it cool (heat cycle it) a few times.

Dog what have you done lol,,,, Both mine broke in HARD hard hard. Second one got a turbo 1st week lol. Never had even a Squeek out of the motors. Oil Oil Oil. Where is that break in article Dog lol ?

Both 14s this way

Congrats Seno Congrats

Black Rimsells it for me!

All Black Every thing sells it for me. Hub you only like the Rims lol ?

Hmmmm...actually,he hasn't really said anything too different than the Kawi breakin recommendations. He said....'on the street' 'up to 65 mph'...okay,how many rpms in first or second is 65 mph?Nowhere near 6 or 7 thousand. And the decelerating from there...ya...that needs to be done.I took mine on a nice long hill at breakin and opened er up to about 4K...stayed there for a few seconds, then coasted down nicely.I did this thing right away.Did that a few times.Several.Rode mine like that...stopping every 20 miles or so and shutting her off for like 10 minutes...then restarting, letting the oil get good and recirculated, then, back out and cruising, opening er up,holding, then decelerating.Like that.I did not idle mine for any longer than 2 minutes tops...if that.Mine was perfect as far as I could tell.Plenty of power. No smoke at all...not even during the decel thing. After 500 miles of that, then I upped it in the rpm range, and did the same type of thing.I did not cruise for any length of time in one rpm position.I varied it alot.

Not sure they would approve ?

The main thing is to load the engine by opening the throttle hard in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear.

change your oil and filter after the first 20 miles. Most of the wearing in process happens immediately, creating a lot of metal in the oil.

RE: GOT MY BIKE!!!

I'd agree...I think...with changing the oil at 20 miles.I don't see what harm that could do?

"The main thing is to load the engine by opening the throttle hard in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear". Well..."hard" is relative.Do they mean...just below redline,or what?

Breaking in a spendy motor is pretty scarey in some respects. It's got to perform and last MANY MANY miles....unless yer plannin on ditchin it within several thousand miles...you know. Some guys do just that.Run em really hard....from the gate...then sell em like in 20,000 miles and such. And on to the next one.

If ya get it wrong...somehow...yer stuck with it.

"The main thing is to load the engine by opening the throttle" .AND....decelerating as well.IDK.Kawasaki doesn't say..."baby the engine'.It says to NOT go past the recommended rpms in the given window of mileage. They know nobody is gonna stay exactly perfectly at those recommended RPMs.Passing 4K in the 1st 500 miles is most likely NOT gonna harm anything. It didn't mine anyway.Besides...they've already run em...probably close to redline at least once to record the HP and Tq.Going to redline isn't needed anyway...it produces it's max values below that.Gonna remember that with my new baby.

Ya...I ran er up to like 5k,6k a few times as I was in the 500 mile range. But NOT straight out first engine startup and run.No way.I gave er a few miles first, just to get everything moving okay and not forcing anything too quickly. But I didn't baby her either.By 500 miles,I was getting into the 6k range. At around 700 miles,8K several times...and by 1,000 miles...I opened er up all the way and then decelled all the way down.A couple of times at least.Changed oil at 200 miles...and again at 600,and again at 1,000.Rode er for about 2000 miles and switched to full syn 10/40 Motul.Never looked back. She ONLY started using a bit of oil AFTER I had run SEVERAL top speed runs..like maybe....10 or so.I noticed a tad bit of oil consumption, but no smoke. That's when I decided to stop doing that.Normal riding(agressive)again and the oil consumption dropped off a bit.1 Bad's the guy who suggested I stop doing those high end runs.So I did.

My valves were virtually perfect spec at 24,000.No adjusting in between.Kept my oil changed around every 2000 miles or so.There were NO flakes or sediment at the 2nd oil change.Couple if tiny pieces of clutch material(fiber)...but that was it.Teensy tiny...about the size of a large grain of sand.

Well..."hard" is relative.Do they mean...just below redline,or what?

Go hard = 100% throttle.

Do Three Full Throttle dyno runs from
30% - 100% of your engine's max rpm
Let it Cool Down For About 15 Minutes
Go For It !!

The racetrack is the perfect environment to break in an engine !! The combination of acceleration and deceleration is just the ticket for sealing the rings. Go For It !!

There's a very small window of opportunity to get the rings to seal really well ... the first 20 miles !! If the rings aren't forced against the walls soon enough, they'll use up the roughness before they fully seat. Once that happens there is no solution but to re hone the cylinders, install new rings and start over again.

" There are a lot of myths about engines...
easy break-in is one of the biggest "

This was a hot topic a while back.

Self control is really the decisive factor... I don't know about you guys but I do not have much usually (except when it comes to not emptying my Glock into an asshole that deserves it). As far as being able to stop at 4,000 or 6,000 by sound, I don't look at the tach when rising in NY... Too many assholes around, especially on black Friday... oblivious mother fuckers who have been up since midnight shopping to save 17 cents. Just put in a call to supervisor of the Highway patrol to make sure my ass is covered if I have an issue... going to go through all the gears TODAY down the LIE ;-)

You can tell an immoblizer by the key fob entry. It has a big red, 'don't bother we'll disable the spark/fuel/the works!" band around the key switch. That comes on the connie I believe? It comes in the euro package with abs and 02 dash 2 compliant or whatever they are locking the molecule down with?; she gets burned.

"If everything seems to be going well, don't be afraid to get a little aggressive with the gas. Avoid full load, redline rpms. Keep the bike moving - you should avoid heavy traffic and excessive idling or sustained constant RPM on the highway. Try not to allow the bike to stay at any certain RPM for very long".Okay....

KTM...no ABS for US markets.

Okay...I'm still a bit confused here.I want to break my bike in so it will last and also be as strong as possible. He says"don't be afraid to get agressive with it"...ya...I understand that part...but how much is 'agressive with it'.SEVERAL romps below redline?Forget totally the mileage recommendations for the engine? She'll be good to go within a few hundred miles? Is that what he's saying?

And what about what Romes said....100% throttle from 2nd and on up through 4th or whatever(I KNOW...not pegged while shifting )?.

"Here's the street level motoman breakin. 3 pulls to 3500 rpm in 1st gear, 1/4 throttle. Three pulls to 6000 in 2nd gear 1/2-2/3 throttle. Then 3 pulls to 11000 (or whatever your redline is), WOT. better do that in 3rd. Roll off quick and smooth after each run 100% decel".

And Brock.... "Avoid full load, redline rpms".

And Romes...."Go hard = 100% throttle".

And.....

Let me ask here....has ANYONE ever heard a sportbike engine pulsing while it was running at a steady rpm on the street?I mean...an audible rapid consistent pulsing of the engine. There IS a reason I'm asking BTW.

There is no sync, Grn. Think about it. One is braking with gas off. The other is accel with the gas on. Make sense now how both can work, no interference?

This week I have some work to do...
