Dogo, I've never owned a Honda in my life, so... last week I gave up and picked up a low mileage 09 cbr1000rr in street trim that is absolutely bone stock- chicken strips on the original set of tires and all.

Please, school me on these puppies! I've already stripped most street stuff off and I'll spend a couple of months building it up as a track only bike. Agan, I know little about Honda, just tearing it down so far has given me the impression that they are just "different" in how they are put together.

Thanks buddy!

I have been missing your updates Dogo, I thoughts you were MIA! How did you do (races)?

I'm still window shopping for a track bike. Do you have now more feedback on ZX-10 vs CBR 1000? Let's just leave the motors out of the comparo

Kofla: Like computers, photography has evolved greatly! You could get a sub 1k camera and MAKE some great pictures. The lens are what make the shots great. After all, they are the eyes of the camera. I have a Nikon D5000 and some good lenses, if I knew what I was doing my pictures could be that good. The $3k are for the pros since they can't afford to fail even in tricky lighting situation... Photography is a way cheaper hobby, too bad it doesn't provide the same thrills.

Thanks guys!!!

That first vid, the cam was mounted on the back of the #1 (overall) Novice's bike... He's been kicking ass all season... but had to settle for second on Sat and took third on Sun.

Here's vid from the guy that took second on Sun:

Sorry I did not put a cam on my bike. I was focused on the business @ hand.

The drift into the dirt, on Sat, didn't shake me @ all... Actually lit me up and my next lap was not only my personal best... I set the lap record for a Novice.

Drag... quit window shopping and just buy the damn CBR already.

Mass... No kidding about the CBR being put together "different"... Thing is, once I figured it out, it is by far the easiest bike to tear down that I've ever owned.
What kind of info (specifically) are you looking for?

Hopefully soon. I just need to get rid of this one monthly bill and I'll be game! Might give that Beemer a second chance!

RE: Field Of Dreams

What kind of info (specifically) are you looking for?

Geometry- the eye to eye length on the rear shock, forks height from the bottom triple to the axle center?

Rear axle, where in the slots? Back, forward etc. for swingarm angle.

Gearing, where's a good starting point?

Brakes- mine will have a Brembo 19x18 master, Spiegler lines and SRJL17 pads, but how are the oem calipers?
Are they the same Tokicos as on the 09 gsxr 1000?

I'll keep the motor stock, run Bazzas with traction control and throw all the hard parts at it, probably stay on the stock wheels for now just to figure out if I enjoy the bike. Mind you that I haven't even riden it on the street and never will. Dunlops or Mich for rubber, Penske triple on the back and most likely AK20 forks.

Something like that...

Great videos btw, that track is just amazing!!!

Holy shit, I'm famous.<---click

Mass, I'll get those geometry measurments for you tomorrow, I do not know them off the top of my head.

I think 15/45 is a good starting point for gearing. With a 200/60 rear tire, my bike tops out @ 164.5mph (actual on gps).

If you like the progressive feel of the 19x18, you might actually be happy with the factory m/c... I am.
I don't know if the calipers are the same as the gixxer, but they're working great for me... Only thing I'd reccomend is getting Pro-Bolt pins, so that you can safety wire them. One of our fast guys had a bad crash last year after one of his backed out.

Sounds like you have the rest figured out... I have Bazzaz TC on mine, but have yet to turn it on... Maybe for a rain race.

Might wanna reconsider the motor though... $2k into the head will give you Bimmer/10r top end, w/o sacrificing the CBR's low/mid.

Wow, 15/45 is way lower than what I have thought. I usually run 15/43 on the 750 at a couple of my nearest tracks.
Michelin's rear is not as tall as Dunlop's, so I might start with 15/43 and maybe bump to a 44 but I'd like to think that I carry enough corner speed, I'm also a little bit lighter than you at 175 lbs. in shorts.
Will test and tune with gearing, that's easy to figure out.

Where's your rear axle in the slots? And how's that oem steering damper? Oh, and a stupid what oil question- good ol' expensive Motul 300 good for it?

I'm sure I'll have many questions but this is very helpful so far, thanks.

RE: Field Of Dreams

lol... You guys are gonna make me have to go back to wearing an XL Shoei.

Mass, Sorry 'bout the delay getting back to you.

My front axle is 44.9cm from the bottom of the lower clamp to center.
I have the rear axle pretty far forward. Eight threads are exposed on the adjuster bolts, which has the blocks just past the second hash mark.
I can't get a good measurment on my TTX w/o pulling it... and I really don't want to. ... but, it is maxxed out. And I know we also maxxed out the Penske on Jake's bike.
Speaking of... Jake ran the same gearing as me @ The Ridge, but @ Laguna we ended up running 14/44. Have 14 and 15t fronts, and 43-45t rears on hand... You'll be set. That's my plan.
We ran Motul in the bikes @ Laguna... but I'm cheap, and put mine back on a diet of Rotella T6 once I got it back together.
The stock damper is working great for me. You can see it does a good job in the vid of Saturdays race after I drifted into the dirt. That hit coming back onto the track was actually so hard, it bent my rear wheel!
If you do decide to replace the factory damper... Just a heads up... It will throw a code once disconnected, and the resisitor included with the GPR's to fix it does not work. Have installed 3 and none worked. All had to have the code fixed in the ECU.

Keep shooting, I'll help you all I can.

'bent the rear wheel"..geez...glad ya didn't have BST's on there or something!Sheesh!.Sounds like going"off track' is more dangerous than runnin balls out thereLOL!!!!They definitely need to do some modding to that return bump...whatever it is.

Thank you! That info gives me a good idea of what the bike likes for ride height and wheelbase, it's easy for me to look up the max lenght of the TTX and the Penske triple.

What would throw codes on this bike other than the damper? Side stand switch, clutch side switch pod, exhaust servo, pair mode etc? Do you still run both radiator fans on yours?

I hear you about building the motor but I just can't justify the time and effort involved in it for non-competitive riding. There are still plenty of guys faster on stock motored supersports, I just have to get more seat time and work on my craft.

Exhaust servo will throw a code w/o a resistor or HRC/flashed ECU.
No fans on mine.

Non competative?... I always see the checker on track days?

Well, same track, same flags... LOL

I see you've kept your ignition in your pics but I've seen the same bike with keyless set up (the start button fires it up). I'm just going to strip everything down that I won't need, really dig my bikes as light as possible.
Noticed it on this bike here:

http://weraclassifieds.com/ads/2008-corona-honda-cbr1000rr-2/

On that note I might go with Motoholders subframe and fairing stay, there should be at least 10 lbs. to be shed there alone. I'll weigh mine when I strip it down completely and when it's built for reference, you know I'm nerdy with that stuff.

I bought this for my gsxr but it would have been a pita to make it work, now I have a bike to put it on

The fairing stay is a must. Not only is the factory one a boat anchor, it lacks a mount for the tip over sensor once all of the lighting is removed. The Motoholders has a bracket.
The Motoholders subframe requires that you use their superbike tail... Just a heads up. Don't buy one with the rest of the bodywork you order.
Ignition and rear resi delete are on my winter "to do" list.

This is a freakin Honda thread now... LOL

How about an ecu reflash? Would this bike benefit from one or does the little z-bomb get the job done?

I see some "race" ram air intake tubes (aftermarket), do you know if they are any better than the oem ones?

Meh... It's my thread and I don't mind.

I have a Z-Bomb, and it does get the job done... but... ECUnleashed can add a data port that makes the factory ECU into a kit ECU for a fraction of the cost of an HRC. I'll be sending mine in once the snow starts to fall. Call my Buddy, Nels, @ 2wheeldynoworks, (425)269-5332. He knows a shit ton more than I do and will do you right.

If you keep the factory ram tubes, you'll need to epoxy a few holes... They'll work fine, but look like shit. I have Sebimotos... Don't think they are getting me any more power, but are worth every penny, IMHO.
