That superbike tail with the foam seat pad had me sold.
yeah, that's one hot bike. can't help but notice some cool racing features. I first saw that pic in mid Summer. After lingering over it a while, I became intrigued with the D rings on the fairing fasteners. Are those Quick release pins? Is it typical for race fairings to have that?

They're called "Dzus Fasteners", and many folks use them with race fairings. 1/4 turn is all it takes to lock or unlock them. -bg

I sure envy you guys who can race tracks like this. That looks like a good one and scenic too! I just will never have enough time or money. But I sure love to watch the footage!

Love that downhill S. It makes me think of the laguna seca corkscrew. The fast guys are going to be able to kneedown both curbs should be fun just to watch. Looks like they made it so you can't cheat and go straight. I wonder if you are better off using your rear brake to put less pressure on the front... that or going to a lower gear. Let me know Dogo....

Careful, Edge... Mass will call you out on your excuses... Seriously though, I can't afford not to take it to the track... My lawyer charges $250-$500, depending on the county I get a ticket in, and I'm tired of my license constantly being in jeopardy... Don't think I'll ever get over my "need" to go fast and the adrenaline rush I get from it, though... This track could not have come at better time for me.

Don't lie... you wanna see crash footage.

This is what me and my gang use on our bikes for the GoPro cameras, I'll post a link of the guy who makes that mount (it's pretty cheap but of great quality):

I wonder if you are better off using your rear brake to put less pressure on the front...

You take the weight off the front by staying on and applying more throttle.

I only touch my rear brake to tame down wheelies while staying on the throttle- you don't want to chop it shut.
Also, depending on the track, I sometimes touch the rear at the end of a longer straight just a little bit at the same time with the front when stopping for turn 1- I let go of the rear as soon as I start getting my downshifts in.
I sometimes blip the throttle when there's more trail braking involved, sometimes let the rear dance around under the engine braking.

When you're hard on the front brakes there's absolutely no weight on the rear, thus you need the traction in the rear wheel so it follows the front in a straight line and the suspension is settled for the turn.
Just like on those 18 wheelers when the trailer wants to slide around the tractor and jack-knife.

And it's damn easy at speed to get that rear tire completely off the groung- all body input with the knees on the gas tank (and relaxed and tucked elbows), quick initial grab on the front brake which collapses the front suspension and you're riding a very progressive and nicely controled (by your two fingers on the lever) stopie. You obviously need to bring that rear tire back down and continue modulating the brake lever into trailbraking.

It is a form of art to dial in the suspension and geometry on a bike and there's always a suspension guru at the track that could help you out a ton. When the bike is dialed in well it's an absolute blast to push and ride fast.
Race dot and slick tires have ridiculous grip levels, there's no street tire that comes close and that only adds to the excitement at the track.

I recently have tried a Techmount steering stem mount and it produced some rattles just from engine vibes. Also, still in the way for a low tuck. It is nice for getting a view of the instrument cluster w/ road. The mirror plate mount looks good but personally, I can only sit through so many of those vids where all you see is the track. I'm sure it helps a great deal to have a friend behind who will ride really close to get some good footage to edit in---actually, a standard angle lens be much better for that view.

IMHO the suction cup that comes with the GoPro is always a good option. Yes it will shake over a bump but I actually like that. we don't ride where it is super bumpy so not too much of a prob. Gets a great shot from the lower or makes a good behind butt view cam. Sticks to the tank on dead center for excellent view of hands on grips/inst cluster/track. but yeah, it is in the way. Use for good shots, maybe not the all out fastest riding you are going to do.

JMHO here, that is too much track bike for me as beginner. Intrigueing as all hell but you will be just as fast on a 600 that is like 20% the cost of that gem. Looks l;ike a lot of nice equipment comes with it but personally, I would go with what ya got the first time out. Then all you need to do is spend 2-3K to get a nice used trackbike all modded. When you get really good, then maybe all that fancy stuff will make a dif for you --or maybe half of it you won't really want. Hard for a guy to know what he wants until he gets into it a little.

I saw a guy on some crazy oil burning slowwer than sheet wide open all the time joke of a beater but he was riding in one of the more experienced classes and he was balls out all the time in every corner. Kind of funny to watch him smoke down the straights but he obviously didn't GAF. He just wanted to go fast and not spend money. Maybe there is a new art in that.

loool. Nah I just wanna see you run off a couple of times

You take the weight off the front by staying on and applying more throttle.

Thanks for the great info Mass. I have got this road I like not far from the house, the slope is pretty deep and it's narrow I almost pass out the first time I took it. I'm gna try to run high rpm and not use the brakes, this way if I go too fast and chop the throttle it'd slow me down.

I'm going to see this guy early next year and get Ktech or racetech upgrades... for some reason when I go hard, brake and try to flick her down for a corner, the front disapear I can't feel anything and she doesn't wanna turn for shit. I must be doing something wrong that or my suspensions setting sucks, it must be both.

Dogo that bike right there is a piece of art, way too much pesos for a newbie like me though. Forget the 14R wait for a gen 2. The new bird rocks but like you said you already got an R. Think about having that VP fueled beast in your stable, only downside is... if you don't start collecting trophies real quick, everybody is going to think you are a show off. lool I may start going down on the wify again if next year I can land a track bike and upgrade it like that lool Even if the 14R pushes 200 hp, you won't find a place to unleash it... that little bike is going to give you all the adrenaline you need and then some.

Prime candidate for a novice group track day!

I could go on for quite a bit here about braking, turning etc. but why would you take the advice of some unknown schmuck on the interwebs?

Most track day orgs have an abundance of very good riding coaches that will be able to point out anything you might be doing correct or wrong. They will ride and work with you and teach you how to ride comfortably at a significantly faster pace than you do now.

Maybe you're doing everything just wright and simply pushing too hard on the street. Maybe the 14 is too heavy and long for the style of riding you're enjoying. Take it to the track and have a skillful rider evaluate your stuff.

it will -----but still gonna cause the front to dive and yeah, it will lift the rear up and slither even on the 14 if you are going fast enough and high enough rpm. Lower tire pressure seemed to help a lot for traction even engine braking in a straight line.

The 14 is the only sport bike I have ridden (excet the busa but pretty similar). I think that front is just too soft no matter what you do. If you are going to really corner you need a lighter bike or stiffer suspension.

lool I may start going down on the wify again if next year I can land a track bike and upgrade it like that lool
Now there is an honest man. How many pair of shoes and hand bags is it gonna cost you if she returns the favor? Not like you can say "wait, stop .....nooooo, I want my track bike!!!!"

WOW! Four different bike with less than 2 years between them. I don't know what I am doing wrong... I need a life coach. That monticello track looks awesome. I would cry myself TO sleep.

Yep, if there was a group before that I would have started by that 1.

Hey Mass, VIR is 3 hrs away from me. Signed up for a track day in Oct caught bronchitis the week before talk about timing. Joined NESBA still waiting on next years schedule to plan a few days. What organization do you ride with?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Silver 14,

They are having a toys for tots toy drive at VIR this friday. With $25 donation of money or toys, you get 20-30 min. of track time. Our mustang club will be going, and I will be taking the Lightning. Not quite bold enough to take the bike yet. Shoot me a pm if you would like more details.

That's just mean.

BTW... was kidding about that 6r... if I pick up a dedicated trackbike, I was thinking of spending around $4k. The more I think about it, however, the more appealing the idea of riding my 10r, and saving that $4k for tires, gas, and ductape, becomes.
