Most of the bikes in the article are very exclusive/limited bikes and I don't think thats what were talking about here. Can you really count the Horex, Confederate Hellcat, the Jet Turbine bike, etc.. as competitors for the ZX14R?

aegisranger

True man, true, those bikes are not competitors, as they are crazy expensive and elite. I think perhaps appeal to very few...

The article is dated, just came across it and thought, Im not the only one rocking 200 and above hp...

So hats off to the thread and all in it that support the notion that the King is the King...

We really are Kings of the jungle. (at least for now...)

A small final thought, is it the machine (ie if hp is close) or the rider, that wins the race. My supposition is that it is the rider!

Cheers boys.

"but when it comes to exhaust you wont spend 600-700 more on a 14000 dollar bike "

$600-700

???

I spent $2,295 plus tax on my exhaust.

I think I'll just make my own exhaust out of duct tape and leftover trim pieces from my 8 yr olds bedroom!

I am 48 and was out riding alone the other day and stopped at a gas station for diet coke.

When this guy said *Is that your bike man?* as the 14R was glistening in the sun like a green alien spaceship.

I said, yeah.

He said *no offense, but I expected *a younger dude* to be riding that*

LOL

That's a bit strange, cause the dealer I bought my bike from is 50, and he has the exact same bike. And many of you guys are also around my age.

Damn it zx14racer! I'll hold up on exhaust for now and do it right next summer and go for the Brock's ct duals that I want and the reflash. Chances are I'll get impatient and get it before summers end. All I needed was a slap in the face. Thanks bro.

The sound of the Brock's duals has to be heard and felt to be fully appreciated.

When you roll through town with those twin pipes roaring, then warbling as you let off the throttle.

There is nothing like that sound and feeling of power at your fingertips.

The brock full system, yes boys, save those pennies, I have heard nothing but good things. They look devilishly mean too. That said, I thought the Scorpions were pretty cool too.

Glad I got everyone thinkin!! But again you bought ONE of the best all around bikes ever built, im just saying treat her right guys, let her breathe!!!! Let her be EVERYTHING see was built to be. And when I said 600-700 more I meant more than just slipons. And its not even that much more. This has be a great thread alot of responses. So my next thread will have to be about gearing for this calm beast. Even though on this forum I dont think alot of you guys are into that kind of ride.

Brocks dual ct are very expensive, I have the single ct on mine. But the best thing about brocks and really the only thing that sets him apart (besides great exhaust) is his customer service. You EVER need a new map or have problems they are a phone call away. The best customer service in the business hands down. But in saying that there are quite a few choices when it comes to a good exhaust system for your 14. So whatever you think looks the best in YOUR eyes is the best exhaust for you.

Then it sounds like you are good to go. But someday if it every happens that you get used to the power and want a lil more or a lighter guy with another bike starts picking on you (LOL) let me know and we will talk about it.

I was completely out of line last year on bikeland for sure. He was correct about what I was like. The problem was they got to going after me big time and I handled it like a child and when I read some of my old remarks im truly embarrassed by the way i responded.

Bikeland is THE place to go if you need technical advice. There's a strong contingent of hardcore drag racers there and not pigeonhole any group but...you can imagine how much they like to f$@*k with newbies. You sort of have to back down and STFU or there will be a couple members harassing you and you will get no good advice at all. So be humble and beg for info over there at first.

Case in point: I started a thread @ BL asking about DIY rim wheel painting. My question was "do I paint the inside of the rim and the bead area??" and I got a list of sarcastic comments from someone, some of which I took to be fact when it was total BS. LOL I ask a lot of questions @ BL and once in a while I get some flaming

well, ZX14racer or gixxerjohn or whoever you are. The crowd is pretty mello around here.......(most of the time). LOL nobody ever got banned yet AFAIK... ...except sometimes someone will ban themself for a while..

Full exhaust.....my experience with my 08 is that there is no decrease in performance except perhaps the very, very beginning of the powerband. I really was not sure at first....still cannot say for certain if the low end lug is weaker as I have done so many things with the bike, each making a little change. Overall, a full system is a huge plus if you sport ride. The Gen 1 header was over 10 lbs and I would imagine the 14r has a header of similar weight. Getting rid of the cans is great but it's worthwhile to change to a ultralight header as well. The power is not NEEDED but the bike handles SO much better when you drop all that weight off of it. As mentioned in the initial post, we all got the bike for the power. If you like the sound of a race motor, might as well go all the way. The bike will corner better and the engine will rev faster and make more power.

Thanks rook!!! Bikeland went downhill now because all of the serious racers like lee and wheelie started a new site. So it is pretty dead there now. But thanks for welcoming me.

lee and wheelie started a new site.

I think I stumbled across that sight last week. LOL ..Wee is one who will ef with you a little bit so for anyone who visits the new site, check your ego at the door. These guys DO know their stuff so it's not a bad idea to put up with their flaming for a while.

Here's the 2008 Gen1 exhaust weight. Compare to an aftermarket full system's 12-8 lbs total weight.

Oh I now its crazy. I dropped something like 35lbs on my 14r going to brocks titanium system. Same almost on my 09 14 going to the alien head. But that exhaust was to loud for my taste.

"Dis IS the Underground" is pull loot toe. Trip me up is come get some of your excrement as my toe jam.

... you can imagine how much they like to f$@*k with newbies.
Their main member or whoever [announced] they were going to f$@*k wit me. And when he began to give it to me, boy did I ever give it to him you had to have been there. http://shovelhead.us/forum/ That list of 'private' was bye yours truly. If I remember correctly, say the engine thread had private written over it was all I remember? Now look at it. Same goes over at the pond. It had all the lily pads at one time. Now its just dried up pond scum. You had the pro's helping out. The semi-pro's helping out. Now you are stuck wit fish rounding up threads to make conversation about some incident at a mickey d's burger joint???

When the main members were gunning for monitoring I knew then. Brock was out the door. RG took off. The Hand and Wee opened up a 1441 website it got that bad after I was booted off? Again, you want reflect? I'll blind you and you still won't see it. Why? Because...

ZX14racer,

I like the rant but I have one of my own. Last Sunday, I met 3 guys on 14Rs at a gas station. Never met them before amd it was cool as hell to see all the 14Rs lined up. So, I decided to ride with them. One had a full brocks exhaust, quickshifter, ECU flash, PCV. Told me to do the same. I wouldn't believe the difference it makes.

We hit about 250 miles of twisty backroads. Well, guess who we had to wait on at every rally point? Yep, the guy with all of the goodies. All those goodies didn't help him in the twisties. He'd probably destroy me on the strip and I'm cool with that. My 14R is a curve killing machine. It's all about riding style and what you use the bike for.

So, even though you made some valid points about the full exhaust, I'm good with my $500 Two Bros slips. They look good and sound great. The weight loss helps with flickability on the roadcourse and twisty backroads. I'll spend the $$ savings on a class with Jason Pridmore, Jason DiSalvo or Keith Code.

Skills pay the bills and keep you safe. :-)

Curve I never meant to go after slipon guys just having fun, but what you just described had nothing to do with his set up, but instead his skills. If you rode his worked up bike it would have been another story. Dont get me wrong your not that far behind in power, its not like he would walk past you like your on a 600 for god sakes!!! But every little bit helps. If you could race yourself one on his bike and one on your bike you probably would only be a bike or 2 behind. Only killing u would notice is his ecu flash at the top end he would keep walkin away. But who the hell as the room for that AND THE BALLS!!!!! Trust I know your bikes are still bassass and in a race it would always come down to the rider its so close. But for curve killing your bike sounds great to me.

See guys in my area there are really no curves. And most of the time I just cruise by myself, but how I have my bike set up now (brocks full exhaust strecthed 6 in and geared 16-43 and flashed) and I only weigh around 170. I'm set up good for running into other powerful bike's and some buddies here and there with busas and newer 1000 that if we do play around I'm always ahead. And that makes ME happy!!! Where im at there is pressure from other bikers because they all know I'm supposed to be faster. I have the green se model and most people have seen the commercials about had bad this bike is so I don't want to let them or me down!!!!!!!!!! But nowadays I dont really race anyone I finally grew out of that shit. But if I were to run into a couple of busas on a big enough road I still cant control myself!!!!!

of course the bike has enough power, its about drive ability and throttle response(and power), how often does anybody get to go full tilt and for how long?
ill get aset of cans, maybe a full system and a reflash, but i wont be looking for a lot of noise,i like to travel by stealth, and not be heard coming for 5 miles at 3 am in the morning or making old womemn jump in the hedge while out walking the country lanes during the day, some loud exhaust owners compete with their bike...

I freely admit to being very cautious in corners on a bike this size but on the Z1000 I had I could roll around corners pretty well after having only ridden the bike 750 miles to get used to it.

I am not yet confident enough in my riding skills on the bigger ZX to attempt to take corners as fast as the other guys I ride with

But I time and with practice. No need to rush it or risk going down

ZX14racer,

It's all good. I know you was just messing around and so was I. But my story is true. LOL!!

I like to do a flyby or two when I see a long empty stretch of road. Only takes the big Ninja a few seconds to reach 186 then back down to 90. The pull is incredible. Nothing like it for under $1M. I really enjoy beating the shit out of Busas.
