And here I'm thinking flat plane like a Porsche engine for low center of gravity. Oh, it's the not too long living flat plane crank is the spin up to 9k. And vibration says? Hammer my crank inserts I'm a high maintenance short fused engine. You wanted more HP, you got it.
And then the discussion panel, with what's her name spinning up a 1000hp on the last cross plane in last year's model? And the GM rep, he being in the long vette division comes back with, and look how much torque the frame took, wink-wink.
And with a 5.5ci? Small bore like, that's all she wrote ala, kawi cylinder walls and no more bore to hole out, or water jacket is now a steam engine? LOL
I don't know? Set this dial to willow springs, OE tires equipped... we didn't say that. Tempting. At least it's dry land parts if I need spares.

Alright, I'm back from taking Quick Silver to the annual Ford GT Rally in AZ. She's a keeper! Already added almost 1,000 miles to 'er. Sooooo, who wants to buy a nice red one with only 342 miles? All 4 options! Not a nick scratch ding or dent anywhere! Still smells of new leather! Showroom new! Step right up!

Impressive gathering. I would have trucked mine in, still with the sticker, the plastic, and even the dealer paper floor mat. With that many, I wonder how many will be butchered down the road? See my papered garage queen? They can't be ALL anal retentive.
Yannih, looks like it's not in the cards. The older I get and all that. With covi, the chip shortage for new cars, the economic exchange of old car values taking off and that timing. No, now home he has at home an acquired car engine on two wheels and that entered the arena. A bagger bike.
A leak down to die for. If only I found an old Porsche with 4% leak, because these are tanks made by Honda and this is their bidding war offering to address the police fleet work. Even have a P for parts used on the same engine, etc.
Funny thing about fate and what you wish for. The car and bagger were neck and neck. Probably will never know that answer.

Of course I dunno how many miles each of these 82 had on 'em, but over the 4+ day event I put about 800 on mine, so if any of the garage queens showed up, they now have more than delivery miles on 'em
I remember at least one that still had some of his windshield delivery decals on it

Yannih, looks like it's not in the cards.
It is what it is mate.
As long as you are happy with whatever you decide on thats all that matters.
But never say never!
Life has a funny way of dealing certain cards when they are least expected.
In the meantime Crude, it looks like it's just you, me, and Extra with his GT's...

Well since then, how things went down for me was to come across two old bikes that sat for years, and a new-old-stock bike lift still in the crate. That's 4 bikes two lifts, junk on the other side of hoarder's garage; where am I going to put a car I won't let out of my sight?
Funny how close I was to a Porsche, maybe a '73? Son was giving away a boat, a lift, a bike that sat since 2003. I asked if the Porsche was for sale the way things were going with the bike and lift being free, but he wanted it for himself. Sent the engine out and I hear it cost him 20 thousand US.
Say it wasn't in the cards. Say this all came along, fell in my lap, a couldn't refuse deal(s) I didn't want to pass up, and am stuck with these for awhile until I can flip'em once running.
Then again, I keep asking myself if I'm really a car guy? I choose those bikes instead. That might have answered my own question.

What's going on in here with the car-too guys? Anything new added to, or deleted from, the garage?
Me, I'm planning to sell my low-mile red GT in a month or so. That'll give me some breathing room in the garage ... and the bank! My truck has been relegated to staying outside at night, which I really didn't wanna do, and since the 2nd GT came along in October it's been over 6 months already. But I'm really enjoying the silver GT. Since it had ~4,900 miles when we got it, I drive it as much as I really care to and never find myself thinking about the miles. That said, it ain't much cuz I want it to stay nice and finding a nice weather day in Florida when I'm not working doesn't happen very often ... and I don't trust people with it out of my sight
Anyway ... lemme know what's new with y'all's more-than-two wheelers

I still take out the 911 every now and then.
Still amazing to drive.
Still very happy with it.
Still one of my pride and joy's.

Lastly, I wonder if Hub has renewed his interest in a new machine at all?

Well, I flipped the 2010 twin 750 w/54mi on the speedo. That's designated as sushi money. Coming up on a year I haven't cooked too many times. Embarrassed to add up the receipts. Took a guess on average w/tip, I need to keep flipping bikes at this rate. Nephew tossed his HD and now that's coming over to be repaired. Just got rid of a bike, now another one shows up >>> His. I'm trapped in cluttered garage.
I go out there and start looking at things to throw... walk back in the house, shit here and post this.

Calling all Porsche aficionados. Ready for this? Probably going to buy a backyard shed and make room in the garage. Just got a call from the friend that gave me the bike, now the same son who gave the bike to my friend has a Porsche sitting in the garage with the engine out. Engine is at a shop with a quote of 40k US to rebuild a magnesium engine?
Says the car is in the 1970's. Can't recall if it's a convert or a coupe? Low miler maybe under 30k and again, sat for decades.
So my questions are:
1. I'm sure it's 911 are they worth restoring?
2. Can I still get parts for it, body and engine wise?
3. Carb gaskets and other parts available?
4. Are these points or electronic HEI kind of transition?
5. Who knows what they stole off the engine sitting there or for a short time. Can I get whatever no matter?
6. Is this the cam chain style or still with pushrods? Don't know if it's early VW engine copy, before cam chain?
7. Am I looking at something that is going to be a money pit and no return due to the body or tag designation?
8. Say a mouse ate up the wire harness, or it dry rotted the plastic wire covering and now exposing the copper wire. Anyone make a full replacement harness?
Looks old, smells old. At the time I picked up the remaining parts for the bike, he said he was keeping the car, so I never took a good look. He's coming down in a few weeks. Going to go over and take good hard look this time. All depends on parts availability and resell.

Maybe not all the answers you were after hear Hub but first thing is to find out what you have there.
Is it a 911 and if so what model.
Again send me a pic and I will tell you.
Regardless, if its a 911, with those low miles and rebuilt and restored correctly,I would assume it's worth between a lot and a shit load...

It's why I am so wrapped with the large 3 car garage in the new house that stores our 3 cars and 2 motorbikes inside with nothing left out in the weather.
Leaving stuff outside is baaaaaad news ... rain, sun, varments chewing wires, thieves, branches, bad drivers, juvenile delinquents, etc. I feel like it's worse here in humid Florida than some places. When I visited Arizona last year, WOW, it's so nice there! Low humidity! Doesn't feel super hot even when it is!
Nice garage!

Alas, the while you're in there slippery slope. You know its gonna be about more than the engine
Early 70s can be great cars but are really, compared too more modern 911s, underpowered. I personally couldn't recommend a 70's era 911, even to an experienced mechanic. Parts can be hard to find and expensive. $40K for a shop to do a 2.7L rebuild sounds about right. Dave at TRE hopefully can give you the story on the engine and what else is "needed" Proper paint jobs on these cars and be $20K too I just bought new seat skins and cushions for my 84 seats and that was well over $3K and Im doing the work. Numbers matching seems like its gone as parts have been swiped for other cars
My advise is always buy the most modern can you can and get at least the 1984 or newer 3.2L with EFI
Co to Pelicanparts.com and see what the new jugs and heads cost and check the clutch and axels while your there

Yes, I concede that Crude summed it up better than me.
But...
Have you ever driven a restored MG?
A classic piece of machinery that does not come close to driving like todays technology.
But still classic to drive and own never the less.

It all comes down to the right opportunity at the right price.
If the 70's Porsche you are considering is in fact a 911 (steer away if it is not), in reasonable condition for restoration, the right milage (which under 30k is) and has been sitting around for decades so maybe not that important to the current owner and therefore available for the right price for you, IMO don't automatically dismiss it.
As Crude and I have both said, parts will be expensive and a challenge to find.
But again if you are skilled enough to do the work your self and you find the right project for the right price, you could find yourself with a classic which you will be very proud to own and also worth a considerable amount of money...
